that's not the rhyme, phil — but okay 🥺 (context: cock, goose or feather was a game teachers would play with their students on their birthdays)

great bulge bro. super tasteful
I sometimes see people argue about one of these circles as though it were all three circles.
Sometimes something can totally make sense in-universe, and fit with the themes of the story, the characters, etc... And you just don't like it for whatever reason. Maybe it wasn't done well in spite of that, or touched a nerve, etc.
Maybe you loved a story, and it was an excellent exploration of a character, but it would be totally fair to call out the technical nonsense, and how, even in-universe, it doesn't add up.
And maybe you thought this episode of a show was GREAT! But it was non-canon, nothing made sense, and, ultimately, it was UTTER NONSENSE.
And so on, and so forth. Heck, you could fairly add more circles to this. I'm keeping it simple with three.
My point is mostly that there's nuance to opinions, and sometimes, someone not liking something in a story has nothing to do with whether it made sense, or complimented the narrative.
Those things can be separate points. Stories doesn't have to be a failure at everything to be disliked, or succeed at everything to be liked, and arguing as though that were the case is silly.
new contender for best community note of all time
Who said tumblr can't do 100k notes anymore. It just has to be the right kind of ragebait and befitting reply.
of course dan, the man behind famous ridiculous statements such as "i love pasta but i never have it because phil doesn't like cheese" and "what's my favourite red wine? phil doesn't like red wine" and "my friends and family don't know me that well, they give me chocolates but phil can't have chocolate" would consider phil ordering him olives the ultimate sign of love
see the thing to me is that i don't think the fact that eleven, twelve, and thirteen all hate ten should be interpreted as like, narrative proof that ten is dumb and cringe and should be disowned as an incarnation of the doctor. i think it makes perfect sense that his own successors would feel that way about him, but like. ten isn't the doctor's equivalent of "your younger self who naruto ran through the hallways in middle school," he's the equivalent of "your younger self who had a psychotic break." and also never really got treated for it, and now the active psychosis has largely gone away but you're still mentally unwell and generally full of self-loathing and suicidal tendencies.
ten embarrasses his successors because he broke. and eleven, twelve, and thirteen are all trying SO HARD to convince themself that they're better now, they would never break down like that, they've moved on, but it's so painfully clear that they are still the same person. they hate ten because they are him and he is them and they hate themself for being weak and vulnerable.
and of course they play it off as a comedic thing, a "haha wasn't i sooo embarrassing and annoying when i was lying about being 900? good thing i'm not like that anymore!" thing. because to acknowledge what ten really was would be to acknowledge that they, the doctor as a whole, are vulnerable. that they can break down completely. and the doctor is not going to do that, because they're stubborn and arrogant and they need people to think they're cool. and there's nothing cool about a manic episode.
it's not that the other nuwho doctors literally unironically are nicer and humbler and better-adjusted than ten. it's that thinking about him (or meeting him) forcibly reminds them that they aren't.

contrary to popular belief not everyone has an innate sense of internal gender or care to have one or seek a name for it, some people go their whole lives without questioning their occupation in one of two gender roles, but for some people, if pressed, they don’t feel that internal sense of ‘i am a woman’ or ‘i am a man’, and in that case i feel the switch over to transgender vs cisgender relies on active identification of a gender other than the one they were assigned. if someone’s like ‘idk dude I just work here’ then that’s valid
#i would describe my gender as not exactly ‘idk dude i just work here’ #more like…..when someone assumes you work somewhere that you don’t #but you know how to help them so you do it anyway #my gender is wearing a red shirt at a target
These are the best tags
A portion of people in the notes are like ‘but that makes you trans. That’s called being agender’ and another portion of people are going ‘this is how the majority of cis ppl feel and it’s NOT agender’ and personally I feel like both of them are missing the point here. Yes a lot of people identify as agender because of this feeling. Yes a lot of people with this same feeling still identify as cis. These are not mutually exclusive experiences and it doesn’t mean the agender people are secretly cis or the cis people are secretly agender. It just means they have very similar experiences of gender that they choose to conceptualize and label differently, and neither of them are mistaken or wrong to do so.
the doctor is a creature made of genre conventions. they are so compelling because they align their character with the demands of the genre. action and adventure? the doctor shines in moments of crisis. scifi? the doctor is one of the more impossible beings to exist even in-universe. chases, running, race against the clock? the doctor has internalised that to the point of a personal history. it's a children's show? the doctor is unarmed and is the story they tell themself. it's an anthology show written by many people that contradicts itself? don't worry, the doctor is also many people and a fucking liar. anyway, that's why the best episodes are when these conventions are challenged.
