Yes! I’m assuming it was this fic. I loved it. You paint a lovely picture that’s easily evocative to the mind. I especially love the bit about the chalk drawings and pirates. :)
Go read this if you need a tug at your heart in all the right ways fic. It’s beautiful and very much in character. It’s first person POV from John’s perspective and it just works!

Excellent! That is one of my fave fics, it just took me awhile to remember the name. My brain gets scrambled sometimes.
The scenes with the wall always stood out to me. And I like how Mary was written. She wasn't written as a bitch or cold woman, just someone who couldn't understand. I think that alone doomed their relationship in this verse more than anything.
I once read a post Reichenbach fic (don't remember the name)where John was trying to figure out what happened to Sherlock, but his wife (I believe Mary) didn't actually believe the books that John had written about Sherlock. Queue massive angst and passive aggression. Can you recommend some Not quite over Sherlock!John/doesn't buy your story!Mary fics? I did read The Progress of Sherlock Holmes which has lovely John/Mary troubles.

I believe it's The Quiet Man by ivyblossom (who also wrote The Progress of Sherlock Holmes). You don't get to the part where John meets Mary for several chapters, but it's a good slow build that's worth it. Told from John's POV, there's angst but also a happy ending. The Faithful Compass series by KeelieThompson1 Wow, what can I say here...first of all it's an AU where Sherlock is the older of the two and they meet while John is still at Uni. Sherlock is a drug addict and John the medical student. Very much in character for both John and Sherlock. Great build into their relationship and how it works. There are times you're not sure who's side you should be on when it comes to "guilt tripping". Fair warning there is angst. Part two is still not complete but considering they're both really long and well written parts to this series, you should give it a chance. Trigger Warnings: Drug use, Violence, forced drug use (not by Sherlock on John) Rating Mature
