Why the Rise of AI Makes Human Intelligence More Valuable Than Ever
See on Scoop.it - Knowmads, Infocology of the future
In the popular TV show Sherlock, visual depictions of our heroâs deductive reasoning often look like machine algorithms. And probably not by accident, given that this version of Conan Doyleâs detective processes tremendous amounts of observed dataâthe sort of minutiae that the average person tends to pass over or forgetâmore like a computer than a human. Sherlockâs intelligence is both strength and limitation. His way of thinking is often bounded by an inability to intuitively understand social and emotional contexts. The showâs central premise is that Sherlock Holmes needs his friend John Watson to help him synthesize empirical data into human truth. In Sherlock we see the analog for modern AI: highly performant learning machines that can achieve metacognitive results with the assistance of fully cognitive human partners. Machine intelligence does not by its nature make human intelligence obsolete. Quite the opposite, reallyâmachines need human guidance.
I wear glasses. Â Can I manage without glasses? Â Well, yes, probably. Â I could squint a lot, constantly move up close to anything I want to see, take the bus or a taxi if I want to go anywhere. Â I could just accept that Iâll never be able to see eagles flying in the sky or whales jumping out of the ocean. Â But why? Â Why try so hard to manage life when I could just put on a pair of glasses? Â No one would ever suggest a near-sighted person should just work harder. Â No one would say âMaybe thatâs just your normalâ to someone that needs glasses. Â They would say âLetâs go to the eye doctor and get you a prescription so youâre able to see again.â You shouldnât have to try so hard.

VIDEO: Open-source algorithm enables drones to fly through complex mock âforestâ and dodge objects
A multinational security firm has secretly developed software capable of tracking peopleâs movements and predicting future behaviour by mining data from social networking websites.Â
âWeâre going to track one of our own employees,â Urch says in the video, before bringing up pictures of âNick,â a Raytheon staff member used as an example target. With information gathered from social networks, Riot quickly reveals Nick frequently visits Washington Nationals Park, where on one occasion he snapped a photograph of himself posing with a blonde haired woman.âWe know where Nickâs going, we know what Nick looks like,â Urch explains, ânow we want to try to predict where he may be in the future.â

YES. SO, MUCH, YES.Â
Apparently âspiteâ is not an âappropriate answerâ to âWhat motivates you?â
Ok, so the tattoo artist I have been going to for all of my tats seriously does everything in his life out of spite. He became a tattoo artist because he was told it was stupid, he got married because his friends told him not to, he bought a house with a picket fence because he was told he wasnât the kind of guy that would do that, and he had a kid because he was told he would be a crap father. He has a nice wife, an adorable little girl, a good house, and is an award winning tattoo artist.
Live your life in spite
Iâm fueled by anger. Not always but it lights a mean fire in me. I used to let it gnaw at my guts like a little acidic rat- so i put it to work. Ratâs on a hamster wheel generating energy now.

It is for Facial Detection and (most importantly) recognition on the Raspberry Pi using the PiCam.
I wish more cartoons taught young girls that if a man harasses you or annoys you or whatever you should blow him up with a bazooka and feel no remorse :)))

Deep Augmented Reality with 3D Mapping
Demonstration from Paracosm shows how next generation depth sensing mobile technology can combine 3D scanning with unique interactive experiences:
⊠Working at Paracosm, I get to participate in brainstorming sessions on making the technologies found in popular sci-fi cinema a real thing. We believe the key to truly advancing technologies, like augmented and virtual reality, lies in the ability to connect the digital world with the one we live in. We do this with 3D mapping.Â
Virtual objects can interact with the physical realm when they understand its terrain. When game engines have a detailed 3D map of an environment, they can use simulated physics to allow virtual objects to behave as if they were real and obey our Earthly laws. For example, if we dropped virtual kittens on your coffee table, they could interact with your coffee table and the objects on it as if those tiny, adorable, rubbery kittens were real.
⊠With 3D mapping involved, game logic can know more about the world than the players. It knows where we are, where our enemies are, where important virtual items are hidden, even where your couch is. The game can share this knowledge, or use it against us. Either way, the gaming experience is more powerful and immersive when a game has spatial intelligence. Letâs say youâre play a game where monsters invaded your home through portals on your wall. The virtual creature wouldnât just know about the wall it was crawling out of, it would also know where its friends are, and could navigate its way to another room. The creature would know more about your space than you do because it would be aware of both the physical and virtual elements at play.

Unreal Engine 4 - Augmented Reality FIGHT SCENE
Project from ĂdĂĄm HorvĂĄth demonstrates how the Unreal gaming engine can be used for augmented / mixed reality experiences using a dramatic fight scene:
Augmented Reality Plugin for Unreal Engine 4 allows developers to use Unreal Engine 4âs Blueprint visual scripting system to create multi-platform Augmented Reality experiences as seamlessly and as easily as possible.
Powered by the OpenSource ARToolkit framework. The worldâs most widely used tracking library for augmented reality.
