Idea to work on this weekend: Figure out how to create ZIM files and package my Archivebox URL archive as one for consumption via Kiwix.
I got email running on the tiny server in my basement!
After messing around with my metal detector, tape measure, and shovel, and staring intently at my survey for an hour, I still can't find my property pins, so I think I'll have the surveyor come out and mark the boundaries for me. That should have the added benefit of legitimacy in the eyes of my neighbors, one of whom will be unhappy when my new fence goes through some of her flower beds, which are technically on my property.
I'm a YIMBY (build more housing!) but nothing makes me closer to becoming a NIMBY than companies buying homes to turn into rentals, then immediately removing all of the trees and landscaping for "easier upkeep."
Working from the back porch today and loving it 🌞
Hot take on seed oils, sugar, and gluten: Yeah, probably not ideal for you, but our bodies are more resilient than folks give them credit for, and you'll be fine if you consume these things.
Sazón's secret is MSG. That is why it makes everything taste so good.
Seeing the solar eclipse with 100% totality today was incredible and I'm so glad we made the trip to experience it in-person with family.
Found my circa-2007 OPML file of blog feed subscriptions. Cool to see how many of my high school and college friends had blogs then, but sad to see how many are no longer online.
My go-to lunch this week has been rice + leftover protein from dinner + hot sauce. Simple and good.
There is so much BS on Twitter normally now that it makes April 1 seem like a regular day.
I'm starting to archive my own bookmarks using ArchiveBox. I already post the bookmarks to my own website, so I wrote an API endpoint to make them available (including tags and published date) via JSON, and I wrote a script to fetch and pass them to ArchiveBox once a day.
I need to set up an IFTTT-style workflow that pings on my home server, and if it stops responding, cycles the WiFi plug the server is plugged in to.
I'm creating a family ebook library, akin to the physical library in our house, available on the home server I set up this weekend. To kick it off I de-DRMed 250 Kindle books from our devices and put them on the server. Next step is downloading our wish lists from Open Library, Standard EBooks, and Project Gutenberg.
I just got a FreedomBox up and running, and accessible from a domain name on the public internet. Configured some basic apps. Next step: Adding some additional storage.
Anyone using a Pushcut server to extend Apple Shortcuts? What kinds of real world things are you using it for?
