I have been in the process of trying to get back into writing, Iām currently halfway through writing the first chapter (and several scenes for future chapters) of my new work and trying to tie together all the details. In the meantime, I have also been in flight school and Iām *this* close to a first solo. Weāre getting somewhere at least~
Coming to you this fall: cute fashion (please)!!
āļø Now Iām ready to fly, Iām in the middle of starting over ᯠāļø
My random playlist I listen to when writing, driving, or late at night when I just want to feel a little more happy. Iām leaving it here for those that want it <3
Ben Daniels is one of the best characters in the Alex Rider series. I love him so much. Heās amazing.
Not only did this boy recognize Alex Rider in an airport from training a freshly fourteen year old like eight months beforehand that they called both Cub and Double-O-Nothing. He followed him through Bangkok and into the grungier part of the city. Watched out for him from a distance, took pictures for confirmation.
Went to the arena Alex was supposed to fight (and probably die) in and cut the lights out. Then started shooting and throwing grenades. Likely ended up somewhat following or sending a signal to other agents to make sure Alex got back to the apartment safe.
Then showed up to the apartment when Ash left, just waiting on Alexās curiosity to get the best of him. Scared him with a fake threat to make him go inside the foreign MI6 headquarters. And then stepped out of the way when Alex retaliated. āNice try, Cub. But much too slow.ā
Didnāt hesitate to watch over Alex further when the offer to do so was made by Jones. I imagine he was livid when he lost connection with him. But sent people out, waited and waited and waited on a sign, a signal, anything. Only to show up, see Alex bleeding and essentially torn to shreds and starving and tired and emotional that for once, somebody came for him. And then tells him he looked horrible.
Trusted Alex entirely with the information he gave them. Told off the head of ASIS for wanting to throw Alex into the hot mess that would be Dragon Nine. But without any hesitation, he stayed right by Alex the entire time. Even reassured him before he jumped. Though, he did mourn the whole thing with morbid humor. āIf you miss the landing pad, the waterās warm. And hopefully there wonāt be too many sharks.ā
He really, really was the figure I feel Alex spent the course of several books looking for. He unconsciously wanted so badly to have an older male figure, like most boys do, that he could trust. He didnāt even have that in his own family. He had been lied to, likely trained through his whole life to be a spy, and was even manipulated by family friends. His whole biological family was dead. Ash was all he thought he had left. Which went horribly wrong.
But Ben. Ben didnāt infantilize him right off the bat. He didnāt immediately point out the obviousā Alex is far too young for this world. Alex knows that. But it was too late for that. He only stepped in when he felt like Alex was being unwillingly dragged to face death after heād already been hurt. He clearly didnāt even support the idea of being used. But itās evident that he respects that Alex can make choices for himself. Alex knows this world is dangerous. Itās too late to tell him that. But he just watched out for him, intervening when things took a turn for the worse.
Ben was one of the only ones that were there to help Alex when he was lost or when he had fallen to pieces.

Miss this era ā”
ok listen nobody appreciates that skeleton key is a massive bundle of internal contradictions that messes up the rest of the main series timeline better than i do. like trust me i am also a continuity error hater. but unfortunately or not it is kind of the book about alex and family. not about john, or ian, or yassen, but specifically alex: he playacts in three different families (the pleasures, troy and turner, sarov) and none of them fit. he daydreams about his parents not as idols or shadows to live under but as familial structures that might have shaped him had they lived: he āmight have been a softer personā, he thinks. he āprobably wouldāve had more friendsā. it always gets glossed over but alex chose to go to wimbledon; itās the first time he agrees to help MI6 without any kind of external pressure. it has nothing to do with john at all. 23 years on and sarov remains the only villain to explicitly kill himself because alex refused to step into the shoes of another dead teenager. you cannot play a son if youāve never had a father. if youāve never had a mother. you are fourteen years old and you cannot go home. you are fourteen years old and maybe home never existed at all.
