“You bet your ass. I haven’t been to the beach in forever. Are we roomies are are you gonna go with Rollo?”
“I can see that. You look a bit pale.” Caleb held back his laughter at his own hilariousness. “As far as I know, I’m going with him. He plans on teaching me how to surf! But we’ll still hang out though, we’re gonna get wasted.” The teen sang cheerfully. So excited about hanging out with everyone again.
“So on a scale of one to hell yes how excited are you for the beach?”
“Hell fucking yeah, I’m excited! It is gonna be the best weekend ever, chica!”
“I could totally be more stubborn than him if I tried. I could be the most stubborn person in all of Boston if I wanted,” Duke said, pretending to be offended. It wasn’t easy, especially as Caleb went on, and Duke laughed at the mental image it supplied. “That’s great, that’s exactly what he needs. I can see him appreciating some Carly Rae Jepsen every now and then.”
Duke shrugged, frowning. “I dunno. It’s just, when he first came back to Boston, he seemed so… detached. And the idea of him getting with someone after everything – and after what people’ve been saying about him.” He shrugged again. He didn’t like thinking about that.
“Oh don’t start. I really can’t handle two stubborn Lowells. I’d have to visit you mom just to get some piece and rest from it. ” Caleb rolled his eyes noticeably at Duke’s comment. “Trust me; I’ve seen him humming along to some not so ominous tunes.” The comment had Caleb’s smile jerk downwards slightly. “What do people say about him?” He tried not to sound so concerned, even though he was. “It is not true, you know, its not.” The young wolf shook his head softly. He was not all that sure if they were talking about the same thing, but there was little else that people talked about Rollo in such instances, if not for the alleged murder of his father.
Rollo heard Caleb loud and clear, on account of his enhanced senses, but he still asked for an immediate reminder. “A cat?” Rollo hadn’t spent time with many cats. He was technically a dog–they were–how would that go exactly?
The puzzled look on Rollo’s face just made Caleb further smile. “Yeah, like a cute kitten or something. Because then you would have someone to keep you company when I’m not here. And I’ll get a fur ball to cuddle with when I am. Makes perfect sense, right?!” Caleb cheered, tucking a pillow under his chin. The main reason Caleb wanted Rollo to get a pet was because he himself never had one. His mother had a strong dislike for anything that left hair all over the place.
“I would have been shocked if you did. Still it’s not easy even when your born with it. Just don’t loose your head kid.”
“Hey, I’m pretty sociable, so I might have. Yeah, I know, I’ve talked it over with Rollo and Duke, and it seems bad either way. I’m not gonna loose my head, and even so, using a little bit of wolf strength every now and then during a football match is technically not illegal.”
“You know what this place could really need?” Caleb turned over onto his belly from where he was lying on the couch, watching Rollo work away on their dinner. “... A cat.”
No. Watching you get angry is so much more rewarding.

Don’t talk about Rollo like that! He didn’t do it, so don’t pretend as if he did!
“Yeah, you know that manly man exterior is very important to my brother,” Duke said with a chuckle. “Always has been, and it’s why he grew his first full beard at the age of nine. The hair came in simply because of how manly he presents himself. But don’t worry, it’s probably better this way. Would have probably ended up in a fistfight if he’d told me in person ‘cause we’re both so dumb and stubborn.” He figured it must have been a family trait. He studied Caleb for a moment and dropped his gaze. “I almost can’t imagine him actually, you know, being with someone. I sorta just always imagine him stalking around a dark house while ominous music plays in the background, and every now and then he howls at the moon.”
Caleb almost broke at the mental image of nine year old Rollo, rocking a full beard. “I know! but it is true. I’m sorry, but you’re both by far the most stubborn people I’ve ever met. He might out rank you just a little bit. He has had more years to practice his stubbornness.” Caleb stated as a matter of fact. It was nice to talk with Duke in such a casual way. Good that nothing had suddenly got weird now that the older wolf knew about them dating. “Oh, no he still does that, trust me. Only now I jump in with some Billboard top 40 songs instead of the ominous music.”
Caleb couldn’t help but let Duke’s comment peek his curiosity. “What did you mean with that? Him not being with someone?”
“Yeah, pretty sure. He made it clear.”
“I’m not. Look, that’s fine, and I appreciate it, but it’s just not gonna be a thing between him and me.”
“What were you guy talking about? He is a pretty mellow guy, takes a lot to piss him off to be honest.”
“Yeah but not being able to be in the same room together is kinda shitty, if you ask me.”
“Yeah, well, he basically told me to fuck off, so I did.”
“What the fuck does it matter, anyway?”
“You sure it was fuck off he said? Not ‘fuck me’ but in just a weird accent?”
“I’m joking, kidding. I’m just asking because I care, about you and him.”
“…Shut the fuck up, Caleb.”
“Eat my shots, Graham. What is going on with you two lately? You were all up in that for a couple of weeks ago and now you don’t even show up at the meetings?!”
“Names Cain. Kid still be careful about things like that. Werewolves aren’t evil or anything like that but you have to be careful especially around full moons. Now I don’t think he wanted to hurt you or anything, but you got to be careful.”
“Yeah, nah, don’t know him. We run free on the full moon actually. Which in the beginning really freaked me out... But we go to this cabin area that the pack owns, and there is a lot of woods around so there is no fear of running into people.”
“Bored and it’s been a while.” He shrugged walking in before slowing down and looking at him curiously. “You smell…like a dog.”
“Bored? I find it hard to believe that you are bored. No more forty year olds to bang?” Caleb laughed, closing the door behind them. “And you smell dead. Things have changed a bit since last time.”
“I said, stop daydreaming about your boyfriend for once, ya fuckin’ schoolgirl.”
“First when you stop daydreaming about my boyfriend’s brother’s dick, huh?”
“Well, I mean, it was through text message, but I guess it still counts.” He laughed a little and shrugged. “I don’t know, no matter how low-key you were, I should have been able to figure it out – he’s my brother, after all. He always knows when something’s up with me, I should have known something was up with him. I just can’t read him. Ever. He’s like… blank when I’m around him. At least now I can use you as my inside source.”
“It might take me a while to get used to it, but I’m glad you’re around. I think you’re good for him.”
“Over texts? I knew he wouldn't do it face to face. Conflicts with his whole manly man image, you know.” The teen rolled his eyes. He should have known Rollo wouldn't invite Duke over to talk about it like he had suggested. “I know he can be like that...” Caleb rubbed the back of his neck. Duke was never a major topic between them unless Caleb took initiative and asked about him. “But, hey, yes, I’ll be your inside source for whatever you need.”
