No offense but Steph is the best character of Life Is Strange: True Colors and I will not accept any opinions otherwise.
From the very beginning we are following our little ball of chaos, who is obviously already hurt by her past and in need of some reassurance and comraderie.
Alex Chen is probably my favorite character of all time. She goes through the worst thing I think anyone can go through when she loses the only family she still had left, and what does she do? She chooses to help other people.
Even in her brother's wake she still makes a choice to help Steph.
She really tried her best in every little thing to help others and to make them like her. It breaks my heart when we find out why by the end.
I like that she eventually let go of her need to fix everyone and be strong, but still.
While everyone was running around making a mess and Alex was cleaning up after them, Steph was the only one who reassured Alex in not needing to be strong for other people.
Like, how much you wanna bet Alex never heard this put like that before? How much you wanna bet no one ever payed that much attention at how she desperately wants to keep herself together for others? And they hadn't even had a full conversation by this point.
And then how much Steph gradually worries more and more about her as we go through the game? They are literally so cute istg.
If you break her trophy, even when it's something that she cares a lot about, she apologizes to Alex for storming off.
And honestly? She's right, Alex stood by them when they were at their worst so she deserves the same thing.
Then their kiss scene comes and Steph says this:
And when we read her thoughts WE KNOW she's gay panicking inside because she wants Alex to kiss her so bad with the "kiss me. Kiss me. Kiss me". But she's not gonna do it first. Why? Because, to quote her own lines, she knows Alex has given so much of herself already and she deserves to make her own choices for once.
She wants Alex to get to choose her wants and her needs for the first time, even if she doesn't choose Steph. And honestly what a fucking gentlewoman.
It makes even more sense that Steph is literally the only one that won't turn on Alex no matter what.
Because let's be real, she's the character who has payed the most attention to Alex. She's the only character who seems to see Alex struggle so much and still be this selfless, strong, amazing person. So in Steph's eyes, it wouldn't even cross her mind not to believe Alex.
Because why would little selfless Alex make up this whole thing when she's done nothing but run herself to the ground trying to make other people happy?
From the day of the wake I think Steph could sense Alex felt alone and was in dire need of some understanding. And she got pulled in from there into falling in love with her, which is the dream, of course, but I just love her own moments of emotional reassurance towards Alex and how she's constantly trying to make sure she's fine and feels appreciated, because that is exactly what Alex needs (and deserves).
And that's why she's the best character of this damn game and has all of my heart.
I SO want to see her and her "freaky empath girlfriend" take down the world đ„ș
