but!

if you’ve been a victim of domestic violence, sexual assault, or stalking, you can enroll into the address confidentiality program (free of cost!) and be registered to vote as an absentee voter and your name and address will not be made available for the public

it is super easy to get enrolled - the application takes like 5 minutes, but it has to be with someone who is certified to do it (most likely an advocate! try going to a family justice center in your area or calling the Attorney Generals office in your area!!!!)

ALSO :

you don’t need to have any police reports or have a protection order to qualify!!! you just have to sign stating that you’ve been a victim of one of the aforementioned crimes.

i've been rewatching tmnt 2012 and tmnt 2003, and there's one extremely specific difference between the two that really exemplifies to me why 2003 is the better show: how both series treat unhoused people

the Professor is a character we meet very early on in 2K3 - the turtles met him sometime before the series start and he's close friends with all of them, gifting them computer parts or comics or anything else he thinks they'd enjoy, while the turtles bring the Professor and his community blankets and help protect them from bad guys who would take advantage of unhoused people

the turtles respect the hell out of him, and he's invited to their christmas parties as well as april and casey's wedding years down the line

the societal mistreatment of unhoused people is the focus of the Professor's first episode, and at no point is he ever depicted in a meanspirited or stereotypical way or are there are any jokes told at his expense. he's a well-written, fleshed out character that the show and writers actually respect as a character, and that goes for most of the reoccurring non-white characters in the series like Angel, Karai, and Silver Sentry

and then you have tmnt 2012

"Homeless Guy" makes his debut in the very first episode of the series, on a dirty mattress in a filthy alley, farting in his sleep. he's part of the joke that new york city is absolutely disgusting but the turtles are in awe of it all anyway

as a character, "Homeless Guy" never goes beyond this cheap, insulting depiction, and pops up a few more times in the series as the butt of the joke or to have something absolutely vile happen to him (FOR REAL THO, this series had a major gross-out obsession, it was hard to watch sometimes)

to me, the depiction and treatment of "Homeless Guy" exemplifies the generally meanspirited nature of the show, and the lack of empathy in its characters

calling every new mutant or alien they meet an ugly freak feels iffy at best and just wrong at worst when your main characters are inherent outcasts from society - basically, instead of building bridges with their fellow outcasts, tmnt 2012 would rather blow up the bridge and cook pizza over the ashes

I really think people have forgotten just how bad things were under the Trump Administration. Literally every day there was news about some service being cut or someone terrible appointed somewhere they shouldn’t be or what have you. He constantly flirted with WW3 and military dictatorship. It was such a blur of badness that there aren’t big standouts for people to point to to make him “the XYZ president.” it was everything. all the time. Why do we not remember this.

I've noticed quite a few similarities between Susan Murphy & Dr. Cockroach from "Monsters vs. Aliens" and Donatello Hamato & April O'Neil from "Rise of The TMNT"

Note: I am fully aware that these pairings are platonic. I just adore them anyway.

1. They almost always paired up together.

Seriously, the likelihood of these two being paired up in their respective shows was always so high, despite how short the shows were.

2. *stares in absolute awe*

These are the same looks!

3. Besties with the best bonds!

Despite how different they are, their respective friendships are incredibly close.

4. Down for the Science Shenanigans!

Susan and April are quite supportive of Dr. C and Donnie's science shenanigans.

Except if they go WAY too far with it.

5. Sick of the Science Shenanigans!

Despite trying to tone down on the science for their respective besties, Dr. C and Donnie just can't help themselves.

Which absolutely leads to Susan and April becoming quite angry with them.

6. Saving him from some incredibly wild situations.

Susan and April often end up saving Dr. C and Donnie from some pretty crazy stuff.

Usually their own inventions or an incredibly powerful enemy.

7. Being there to help her out.

Although not as common as her coming in to save him, Dr. C and Donnie will try their best to protect Susan and April, as well as help them up when they're down.

Although they're not the best when it comes to physical aid, Dr. C and Donnie always come through for their girls with SCIENCE!

8. The things he'll do for her.

Dr. C and Donnie will basically do pretty anything for Susan and April.

Dr. C spend over a month trying to help Susan shrink back down before their first mission.

Donnie came through with the "Donnie Blocker" on April's phone that ended up saving her from being hypnotized.

9. Admires how strong and powerful she is.

It's absolutely no secret that both Dr. C and Donnie admire how strong and powerful Susan and April are.

It especially love it when she's so confident in herself and her abilities.

10. Emotional and physical support.

They absolutely come through with the support when they're respective besties need it.

Love them both so very much!!

He literally would’ve gotten cut here if he didn’t move his head to the side. And even then, it still barely cut a bit of his hair.

From this scene I have a feeling that Hunter has dealt with Belos’s cursed form head on before, from the way he looks away as if afraid.

Or how here he just tenses up and closes his eyes, expecting to get hit, as if getting hit is a normal punishment for him.

Look at the way he flinches and tenses up, when all Belos did was snatch the key. It’s like he was expecting Belos to hurt him.

The way he flinches when Belos flicks his hair. Like he expects a hit.

And then there are things Hunter says that tells us he is abused.

“The emperor is not a merciful man” probably saying that out of experience.

“Come back with results, or else…” he probably would get hit if he didn’t come back with results

“I can’t go back empty handed… not again” he will get hurt if he comes back empty handed (like he almost did)

As someone who has been physically abused, a lot of Hunters mannerisms (like the way he flinches, closes his eyes, and tenses up when near that person (or even other people), even if they aren’t doing anything real threatening) reminds me a lot of myself. I fully believe he is physically abused, and if it’s revealed that he isn’t I will be genuinely shocked, because all of his mannerisms add up.

I suspect it will never be explicitly stated that Belos physically abuses Hunter, but it’s not needed since it’s so extremely, extremely implied. We know where those scars came from.

The Animated Panic Attack

I don’t talk about the Owl House on this blog, but I feel like I need to talk about panic attacks in animated shows and how powerful they can be when done correctly. WARNING TO THOSE WHO MIGHT BE SENSITIVE TO THIS SUBJECT

I saw the Owl House tonight, and after seeing Hunters reaction to realizing his entire life is a lie and how Belos revealed his true colors was a scary feeling.

The intensity of emotions he was feeling was vivid and clear. His breathing was heavy. His thoughts were jumbled.

The only thing he could do was run. I felt that to my core and it was conveyed well, too the point where I was panicking about Hunter as well.

It felt eerily similar to a scene in another show I remember all to well.

Let’s turn to Miraculous and Ladybugs panic attack in Adrien’s bedroom. Ladybugs panic attack, like Hunters, showed her static breathing and her inability to think clearly.

She’s frozen and doesn’t know her next move. I especially love the animation and how that conveys her emotions. Her rising chest, her small pupils, and hands clutched to her head.

It was so real, to the point where I felt like I was in the room with her. Her fears became my fears, and her anxiety made me anxious. I connected with Ladybug on a deep level.

This demonstration of panic attacks in animated shows is not only brave to do, but also shows the reality and severity of mental health conditions. Everyone, abuse is real. Lifetime mistakes happen. Sure these shows are set in a world of fantasy, but the emotions are very much real. People have these type of panic attacks in our world, and it is important to recognize them and what creates them. Both the Owl House and Miraculous Ladybug were vulnerable and shed light on the impact mental health has on our actions. I also want to thank both Zeno Robinson and Christina Vee for bringing these emotions to life through their incredible voice acting. Both are amazing at what they do and deserve all the credit for bringing their heartbreaking yet powerful scenes to life.

A fucking email from a fucking HERBS AND SPICES STORE that unlike you wretched cunts ACTUALLY HAD VOTER REGISTRATION HELPLINES IN IT.

Every time one of you godforsaken freaks tells me to 'get out and vote' like its cutely trivial and didn't take months of desperate phone calls just to register (IF my registration even WORKED THIS TIME).

If you, like me, are struggling with registration or poll access, try contacting your STATE board of elections.

Request that they send you TWO copies of their registration guidelines. Collect any documents listed in them.

Then, contact your LOCAL board. Tell them you would like to register IN PERSON IF POSSIBLE.

Bring your documents and the two copies of the guideline AND a working cell phone.

If you get ANY trouble AT ALL tell the local person you will call the state board to confirm their registration requirements. Be polite, but do not leave. Put the phone on speaker.

Most of the time, the local person who is doing Actual Serious Federal And State Crimes will give up at that point. If not, the person at the state board will generally outrank and overrule the local one.

Make a note of the names of both the local and state official.

Then, and this is the most important part:

CONFIRM YOUR REGISTRATION WAS FILED.

Check your voter registration status to confirm that you’re able to vote in the next election. If you’re an active voter, you should not hav

It may take a day or two for your registration to appear.

Unfortunately, if it's been a week, you're going to have to repeat the process.

Take the names you noted previously, and contact the state board again. Report that these people denied you registration on this day, in spite of you providing these documents, then list all the required papers you collected.

The person at the state SHOULD be able to direct you from there, but the process varies hugely by state.

My friend, I assure you, it is much MORE annoying to be swarmed by white 20somethings every year who are constantly bemoaning that I, personally, am the cause of all their political woes because I am "apathetic about voting."

YOU may realize that I am "not the target audience" but the people saying that shit do not realize it, especially when they are saying it to my FACE instead of ONLINE.
