Different show, same story.
It's an endless cycle.
Maybe you didn't like First Kill for a shit-ton of reasons, but for that same shit-ton of reasons it meant everything to other people.
There was no coming out story served with a side dish of homophobia.
Nobody batted an eye for the same sex relationships, it was perfectly normal.
One of the lead characters was a black lesbian.
Cast, crew, and fans deserve better.
For the nth time, let's raise hell.
Burns family and the rest of the Guild: Welcome to the Fuck Vampires Club, where we say fuck you to vampires!
Calliope (and let's be honest, Talia too), standing up: Yeah, sorry, I think we had a misunderstanding.
“first kill was dropped bc it was bad” yet riverdale, 13 reasons why, those gross 365 days movies all got multiple instalments even though they’re fucking awful.
netflix are a lesbphobic, racist company that too often churns out absolute shit and drops anything that actually has potential.
first kill wasn’t some kind of cinematic masterpiece but it was very fun and very far from the worst thing to come out of netflix. shut up.
TERFS DNI. I DO NOT CARE ABOUT YOUR VIEW ON THIS THANKS.
this is valid but quick reminder netflix DOESN’T own riverdale and in riverdales 2nd season it was signed to a 7 season contract
Fuck Netflix and fuck everyone who fought against this show.
First Kill was set up to fail right out of the gates.
It was a diverse show streamed on a platform that is proudly anti-diversity, it got zero promotion or advertisement from said platform, it had fans who were sabotaging viewership before the show had even aired, and it was released at the same time as big shows with pre-existing bases like Stranger Things and Umbrella Academy.
And somehow, despite all that, First Kill outsold. It swept the competition of their feet. It got more buzz than anyone could've anticipated.
Which is exactly what makes Netflix so fucking stupid for trying to cite numbers as the reason for the abrupt cancellation. Especially when the numbers are public, have been public since the series' debut, and have been praised the entire time.
And it's scary that they're getting so comfortable with lying when the actual numbers are right in front of our faces. They're not announcing these cancellations with "heavy hearts" anymore. They've dropped the act of caring, and it's become more obvious than ever that it's because they don't think they even have to pretend to care about diversity anymore.
And they're right. The film industry has once again become a climate where they feeling comfortable exposing their bigotry to everyone, knowing there's nothing anyone can do and that they can just keep doing it.
We've seen the pattern. Batwoman, Legends, Legacies, Motherland: Fort Salem, The Wilds, now First Kill. I know there's many I've missed in that list. That's the worst part. Networks are not even disguising their intentions anymore.
First Kill's not the first and it won't be the last, but I really fucking hope it can be the loudest.
had to be the best kiss in WLW netflix history
can’t bury your gays if you just bury the whole show!! 😊
not to be a hater (but yeah to be a hater) shocker that the show with the black lesbian lead is cancelled and... The Other One gets renewed for two seasons
so if we’re keeping score of shows in the last few years:
teenage bounty hunter: canceled
trinkets: canceled
dollface: canceled
betty: canceled
batwoman: canceled
legends of tomorrow: canceled
motherland: fort salem: canceled
gentleman jack: canceled
the wilds: canceled
first kill: canceled
supergirl: ended
dickinson: ended
the bold type: ended
killing eve: ended
and we’re just supposed to be cool with almost all lesbian tv media being wiped out?
adding wynonna earp, everything sucks, gypsy, one day at a time, and I am not okay with this to the list
There's also The Owl House, which Disney screwed over by unexpectedly severely reducing the 3rd season.
EVERYONE SHUT UP THIS IS SO FUNNY
ok but the original book is actually a bit different than the series and im loving it
Juliette was crushing on Calliope hard enough that it was actually noticeable to people other than Ben
Book Juliette looks more like her sister. And there's no mention of Oliver
Book Calliope has curls instead of the straightened hair we saw in the series
Book Calliope has friends other than Tess. That's something we didn't see explicitly mentioned in the series.
In the book they actually had small talk instead of fleeting glances
Also book Juliette is in denial of her crush
Book Calliope makes the first move!!!!!
Book Juliette wears lipstick (?????!!!!)
The one thing that doesn't change though is Cal realizing she's a vampire cuz she thought Jules was cute
The Burns siblings are all teenagers and Cal is definitely funnier in the book
THIS THO SHE MFKING CARVED HER INITIALS!!! ON THE WEAPON!!!
AND HERE'S CALLIOPE BURNS UNABLE TO MAKE A DECISION
SHE CAN'T DECIDE IF SHE WANTS TO KISS HER OR KILL HER
Ok here's the big twist: Book Cal gay up couldn't stake her properly and Jules is kinda stronger than portrayed in the series. She immediately knew Jules hadn't died rather than the series where she waited till the next day
ALSO THE ENDING
BITCHES JUST KISSED AND TRIED TO KILL EACH OTHER
AND THEN THEY END IT HERE WHICH CLEARLY SAYS THIS ISN'T THE ENDING AT ALL
I started watching First Kill last night and i’m obsessed it’s so gay
netflix can absolutely eat my ass. i'm so fucking tired of them giving sapphic shows a budget of 4 dollars and then them cancelling it because "not enough people finished watching" when the show had 30 MILLION views the first week and stayed top 5 despite huge shows dropping at the same time. fuck netflix and fuck their fake "representation matters" bullshit
so valid
i’ve been tweeting since last night about the tragedy go over to my twitter to check it out
