rhaenyra truly does only care about the people around her to the extent to which they are useful to her, since jace and luke died. baela is only as useful as moondancer. helaena was only as useful as her dreams. mysaria is as useful as validating everything rhaenyra says/does. the second any of them tried to push back, rhaenyra punished them. grounding baela. force feeding helaena. sending mysaria away.

her downfall will be her own doing.

The thing that gets me about Gwayne is that he is so obviously tired of war and mentally exhausted but still cares so much. He keeps choosing hope again and again - not for himself but for others. He goes behind Ormund's back to bargain with the enemy to save those children up on the wall, to spare the citizens and men of both armies a pointless death and Daeron a traumatic experience he is not ready for.

He is belittled for it, is threatened and choked but he still tries. He tries so hard and when it doesn't work - it never does, and that is a whole other can of worms in terms of trauma - he abandons the larger battle for a smaller one and focuses all his energy on keeping Daeron safe even though Daeron doesn't want that. But Gwayne still tries, again choosing hope. And I think he always will when it comes to Daeron: because he loves that boy like a son - something Daeron will hopefully understand in the future.

And I think that's why I love his character so much. He is fighting windmills left and right but despite it, he remains kind and caring and full of hope.

(And a part of me cannot help but wonder if that would change if Daeron died. If Gwayne would become more like Cole then or perhaps like Helaena when he has no one left to fight and live for.)

in the book daeron’s body is never found after the battles of tumbleton when tessarion dies. show daeron looks more hightower than targaryen. no one on team black knows what he actually looks like but corlys, who is in the habit of keeping certain things secret. but there IS a fake daeron who is made to look like a targaryen.

gwayne says he’s second in line to oldtown meaning ormund has no sons in the show. gwayne is implied to be gay but no one outside his family seems to know that so who is left to say he didn’t have dalliances with women say about 16 years ago? and if you mash gwayne and ormund’s names together you get Garmund.
