Hello, Tumblr citizens and denizens! I'm Camations, Cam, Cameron, whatever the hell my name is, I forget sometimes. I'm a digital mouse artist that uses GIMP 2.8 and MS Paint, which means I am considered by the art community as an enemy of the state!

I just tumbled in here not that long ago, so for the next few days i'll be reposting a bunch of art I've stockpiled from this year + last year, just as a way to make a name for myself and get used to this place. This site is a lot funkier compared to the other ones I've used, bare with me while I get my bearings.

Speaking of other sites, I'm also on Newgrounds, Bluesky, and The Social Media Site Formally Known As Twitter. I'm still active on those, so give them a look when you have the chance! (Newgrounds is the best for easy viewing of all my art in one place) I'm also participating in Art Fight this year!

Lastly, my art tag is "#camations art". I also include the names of my OCs in the tags of the art posts they're in, in case you want to see more of them. I don't reblog that much (unless it's like fanart or something), so it's unlikely you'll have to use these, but it's good to have them nontheless.

whenever i use textures, overlays or backgrounds i dont draw myself in my art i usually use either stock images i get from google or the default patterns in gimp

i wrote this reblog a few days ago because i thought OP's take was kinda dumb and reductive and made me laugh so i wanted to make fun of it with an equally dumb and reductive take of my own that also made me laugh. highlighting the absurity of what they were saying, yknow

i thought it was obvious i was joking but they took it completely seriously so now i kinda feel bad and idk if i have the heart to tell them i was making fun of them lmao

MY ACTUAL REAL TAKE WITH 0% IRONY (warning, way longer than i thought it would be):

tbh ive never liked saying yumeship over selfship but only because the former feels kinda corny in a "thing, japan" way to me lol (i still use yumehsip when tagging art but thats for visibility)

but to go as far as to call it "fetishization" and that youre being actively racist for saying it?? thats such a massive overcorrection to me dawg. like even typing it out im kinda baffled at how someone could come to this conclusion

obv fetishization of asian culture is a very real and very bad thing (it's part of what i was making fun of in my reblog when i called japanese culture "innocent and sacred"), but context is also important. using words from languages or cultures youre not apart of is not in and of itself a bad thing. it's not even that people are appropriating "yumeship" by changing the meaning. yumeship and selfship are both interchangable and comes down to personal preference. and from my own experience when people get it wrong it's almost always the etymology of it rather than the terminology

does the person that calls themselves a fujoshi genuinely think that japan is god's gift to humanity and is far above any and all other cultures, or do they just think "i love stories abt gay men and the best word i can use to describe myself happens to already exist in japanese"? i dunno, it depends! everything does! you cant just make sweeping judgements about ppl you dont know over something thats ultimately harmless

tons of different words from one language end up in the lexicons of non-native speakers, not just japanese/english. theyre called loanwords, and there are way WAY more than people realize. different things from different cultures changing hands is just natural part of all of us being so interconnected on the internet.

remember when this used to be about yumeshipping? me neither. anyway point is if you truly think somebody is contributing to racism simply for using a word from a different language not of their native tongue, then youre being kinda silly

Do not refer to selfshipping as 'yumeshipping' unless you are Japanese. 'yumeshipping' is contributing to the fetishization of Asian cultures.

Don't contribute to racism. Just call it 'selfship'.

Glad someone is finally saying this. As a westerner myself, nothing pisses me off more than other filthy westerners trying to bastardize a innocent, beautiful, and sacred culture.

We should also stop referring to gay/lesbian romantic ships as “yaoi” and “yuri”. And stop referring to animated shows from Japan as “anime”. Those are THEIR words, not ours.
