A lot of revenge arcs end with the hero saying "there's nothing you can do to bring my loved one back, so me seeking revenge is pointless." The Princess Bride's revenge arc ends with Inigo Montoya saying "there's nothing you can do to bring my loved one back, so there's nothing that can save you."

For a lot of reasons I find it hard to actually put any real blame onto Celine for the events of the movie.

Like, maybe my perspective is skewed because I spend so much time in local and family court but like (and obviously treating Celine as if she were a real person and not a plot device because that's a whole different analysis and not the direction of where the vitriol is coming from)

Celine is in a position where she has duties as a parent and duties as a hunter and duties as a mentor to the next hunters (and if she's some kind of exec at the label or has some kind of official position involving Huntr/x she probably has separate fiduciary duties on top of everything)

And that's a very difficult position to be in. Like conflict rules exist for a reason. And while it's not explicitly disallowed, there's a reason why representing friends and family are very strongly discouraged.

Because as an attorney, we have duties to the court. We have duties to our clients. It's hard enough juggling our duty as officers of the court and the interests of our clients without also having to maintain a personal relationship. (Doing your best for someone as their attorney is often going to run counter to being a good friend or family member)

As a hunter, Celine has a duty to protect the public. As a mentor, Celine also has a duty to Mira and Zoey to instruct them in a way that gives them the best chance at staying alive. As a mother, Celine has a duty to Rumi to provide support and prepare her for adulthood.

The patterns are a problem because they are inevitably going to cause a conflict between Celine's duties

(Also we do need to keep in mind that hunters don't seem to know a whole lot about demon patterns to begin with) (and to be perfectly honest, neither does the audience because the movie doesn't go into that)

(Celine can only work with the knowledge she has at the time)

Fulfilling her duties as a hunter probably involves killing Rumi.

Fulfilling her duties as a mentor means teaching Mira and Zoey that all demons are evil and everything with patterns should be killed. (Every time we see demons in the human world, they're trying to kill people; if the girls start second guessing their actions, they could die)

Fulfilling her duties as a mother means being supportive of Rumi and letting her show her patterns to Zoey and Mira. (And then what if they hesitate during a fight and die, or what if they don't and they hurt Rumi)

There's realistically no path forward for Celine that doesn't compromise at least one of her duties.

So the compromise I assume Celine came up with was to tell Rumi that she isn't a demon* and to tell her to hide her patterns and to teach all the girls that demons are evil and everything with patterns should die.

(Also sidebar, but if kdph is following korean and general east asian views of demons, Celine would actually be *right* that Rumi isn't a demon) (that's a whole different conversation)

Celine basically needed to not be Huntrix's mentor (which would be difficult seeing as how she seems to be the only hunter left) or Celine needed to not raise Rumi (possibly letting a demon child run loose and probably emotionally unacceptable to her)

Basically, sometimes you don't get good options. You just have to pick one and hope for the best.

And also Celine was kind of doomed as soon as Miyeong died and she chose to keep baby Rumi.

You are absolutelly right! (though, I think we still can blame Celine - she did mess up Rumi)

I can call all this situation "Celine's Wormhole", because the longer you think about it, the more complicated it becomes.

Realistically, the most sensible thing a hunter must have done in her place is outright kill Rumi while she still was an infant. There are little to no chances for this to end in a good way.

Celine couldn't do that.

The next sensible thing would be not to teach Rumi how to fight and keep her under constant surveillance.

Not only Celine taught Rumi how to fight, she also made her the leader of the next Hunter's generation, and then she gave her the full rein over both Hunters and Huntr/x. Not only Celine is not controlling Rumi's every step, she is not even checking up on her.

We know Celine cares for Honmoon and Hunter's duties. The amount of trust she put in Rumi is astonishing. She was absolutely sure that Rumi will never betray them. So, the instilled rule to hide the patterns was only to protect Rumi - primarily from Gwi-ma, but from Mira and Zoey also. It was never a mean to subdue Rumi herself.

But why?

Your "Celine would actually be *right* that Rumi isn't a demon" is the start of this "Celine's Wormhole", I think...

Dangsan Namu is the place where late Hunter's buried. And this is the place were the new generation of Hunters being trained. That's particularly because this place is protected from demons, as in "demons can't go near it".

And, I think, that would be the first place where Celine brought Rumi to. And was "allowed" to enter it. By this fact alone, Celine could concluded that Rumi isn't a demon. But the patterns are still there...

(I don't know how to interpret almost every one of Celine's lines)

This is me reaching really hard, but this line in particular "This is why we have to hide it," telling me that Celine already saw those ripples on Honmoon. What if she did? What if baby Rumi's cries for Mi-yeong already caused those ripples 22 years ago?

So, Celine had on her hands Mi-yeong's baby, who was "allowed" near Dangsan Namu, but has patterns, and with the voice that can rip the Honmoon apart...

She is not human, she is not demon. How exactly should you raise a child, when you are not sure what this child even is?.. What "good" choice even is by that point?

Add everything OP said.

Add the fact that Mi-yeong death should have ended up a national news. And Celine didn't have the oppurtunity to grieve in peace.

Celine had to manage her public persona. Had to manage the brand. Had to laid the foundtaion for Huntr'x debut.

All the while, protecting the Honoom and killing demons.

And, don't forget, that she also had to sing (doing concerts, recording solo albums) in order to feed the Honmoon.

She also had to find, sowehow, new Hunter's generation and train them.

AND to be a good mother on top of all of that?!?

Celine was awake for 40 hours a day. And she had to do it everyday for 20 years.

...

By the end of the day, Rumi is a well adjusted person, a good person, and a really good Hunter that didn't succumb to her demon side even at her lowest. That's too Celine's doing.

Yeah, I would agree that the show doesn't really acknowledge him as a genocide victim.

What's worse is that his savior complex goes unacknowledged for the most part, treated as irrational or turned into a joke in some scenes.

That's a direct trauma response. I want to make a post about it soon because that's something he has in common with Jet and those two happen to be my favorites.
