For Katniss to live, Cashmere and Gloss must die. If these games were to be played, she would do so with no lack of ferocity. She will not stand idly by as Peeta proclaims his love to an indifferent girl. She carries out death’s work in lethal digits, ready to throw blades or strangle whoever stands in her way. As Peeta prepares to keep his partner alive, Cashmere does the same for Gloss, and perhaps it is a mutual, yet silent agreement. She nods, a sly grin crossing her features at the mention of Mags. The grandmother figure would not be touched by this victor, of that the blonde is sure.
”Mags can teach you a lot, and not just about tying a knot, you know. I guess wisdom comes with age..”
How strange it was, the fact that he may very well be talking so light-heartedly with someone he'll have to kill in the future, all in order to keep Katniss alive. And who will not hesitate to kill him in order to survive. Would they have been friends, maybe, had it not been for the Quarter Quell? Acquaintances, at the very least? He would never really know, so it is best not to dwell on it. And yet telling himself this does not make it easier to forget that she is just like him, having been a victor and expecting not to go through the horrid trials she had faced, only to be forced back into the arena once more. Except for the fact that the reason for such was him and Katniss, even if Cashmere is not aware of it. Peeta smiles at her before turning back to the hammock with clumsy fingers.
❛ I don't doubt that at all, and I haven't even spoken to her that much. She just... has that sort of air about her? Does that make sense? ❜
