The amount of misinformation on the #paris tags on tumblr, Twitter, and Instagram is incredible if not unexpected.

The Eiffel Tower didn’t go dark in honor of the dead. They shut the lights off every night.

Thousands of people did not go out into the streets holding up a lighted sign reading “NOT AFRAID.” That was from the Charile Hebdo March.

There was a fire at a refugee camp in Calais but it was not an anti-refugee action. Eyewitnesses report it as small inconclusive.

There are hundreds and sometimes thousands of instances of each of these posts on every platform that I’ve searched.

Instead of checking to see what is actually happening, they’re reposting what they expect or maybe want to see.

There is a terrorist attack currently happening in Paris. Please read if you are an American

 Every time something like this happens the response on tumblr especially  a big chunk of American side of tumblr is less then stellar. So for the love of god. Please just show some restraint. Don’t try to act smart and superior about it, don’t try to hijack the publicity of the issue for your own agendas, don’t even think of saying how the french deserve it and to try and “understand” the terrorist, don’t pull the shit of pretending to be enlightened and talk about how we spent too much time covering such “minor” incidents in Europe while barely paying attention to much more horrible things happening in Africa and the Middle East.

Just  stay quiet and respectful. No it doesn’t matter if you are right and you have point. Some things are more important.  The only thing you should do right now is to give your condolences to the victims. If you want to talk about these other issue fine. But not now. Wait at least a week. Because right now people are hurting and the last thing they need is for someone to use their tragedy in such a way. Put yourself in their place and try to act like a decent human. At least for a week. Let’s not repeat the disgrace that was the tumblr response to the Charlie Hebdo attacks

The prefecture of Paris decided to forbid public manifestation in and around Paris from today to Thursday. Parisians are still advised to stay in their homes if they do not have to get out.
