I’m not joking when I say this, I mean it. Asking a gender non-conforming woman her pronouns is sexist and I say as much when I’m asked. It’s the implicit message it sends: “I see you, and you are female, but you are not feminine enough to fit societal standards and therefore you must not be a woman”.

it doesn’t faze me being mistaken for a man/boy. i couldn’t care less about being called “he,” “him,” “this guy,” getting a “thanks buddy” here and there; depending on the context it can be quite amusing.

but having a girl in my class send me a private message apologizing profusely and asking for my pronouns because she thought she misgendered me? explaining to my friend what gnc means and being asked if i’m non-binary? while i think people who ask questions like this are trying to be kind, understanding, inclusive etc. it is not politically neutral.

the implication is that women who don’t perform femininity aren’t women, which is so incredibly sexist and insulting and shows how much liberal spheres have regressed with trying to break down gender roles and stereotypes. non-binary identities don’t defy the binary, they reinforce it. narrowing the definition of what a woman is “supposed to look like” helps no one.

“Weight loss culture” will allow you to learn what a portion size is, help you stop over eating and emotionally eating. Ease the strain you put of your back, knees and joints. Don’t forget he attended a climate change protest right after approving the nationalisation of an oil pipeline project. Like does ANYONE else see how hypocritical that is?!

Also, what Trudeau could have done instead of going to a protest on police brutality is announcing a that the government is going to make a plan to reform the police. Like policy and legislation don’t change in a day, I get that, but the fucking prime minister can make a commitment to drastic police reform on the federal (RCMP) level. That isn’t an unrealistic course of action for a politician to take.

Please reread the post. It’s someone dressing as a race. As a caricature of a race for the sole purpose of making fun of them for laughs. It isnt suddenly okay because it happens to a race that is socially acceptable to hate.

If it is bad for some, it should be bad for all. Especially when we have white people mocked ao often and so ashamed of being white that they desperately grasp at that 2% native american or Indian heritage to make themselves feel better.

Not to mention that any reason to accept this is a reason for people to do it in other countries. Africa has a long history of oppressing Asians (and vice versa in Asia. Would you be fine with Asians doing Blackface in South Africa? Black people doing yellowface in China or India? Being a minority doesnt excuse it and neither does history (especially things that happened long before you were born.

I’m not offended by racism, honestly. It’s intellectually dishonest to not acknowledge that black face is tied to a history of violent, broad societal racism while white face in its worst form is just a joke in poor taste. I don’t care if Asians do black face in Africa, but the people that do care, care because of the contextual realities surrounding the historical and modern interactions of those two groups. Is white face racist? Sure, minorities are of course very capable of racism. But the difference is white there’s no historical context to white face in America. White people arent offended by white face, sure they COULD be if they chose to but why would they be? It’s a meaningless joke not even done maliciously. Also, Africa has oppressed Chinese people? It sounds like you are offended by racism.

As with all cultural taboos, including in your explanation, blackface would only really be offensive in the US and parts of Europe. If any other country did it, your logic of historical background wouldnt stand. And the idea that some people in dofferent countries could be offended also wouldnt stand.

White people are one of the groups that even “activists” have made acceptable to hate and mock. As such, many white people have essentially been taught to let the same behavior against them slide. Literally after the facebook live torture, where a white guy was tortured for his race on live camera, many white people couldnt bring themselves to admit that it was racism. As in even extremes are made more acceptable, even to the piint of making light of it, in comparison to when it happens to other races. So using the (false) assumption that apparently all white are not offended by white face doesnt suddenly not make it racist. And of course the accusations of racism that white people receive when they try and voice their opinions at bigotry directed at them. It’s a trap. You voice concerns about racism directed toward you and youre the bad one

And since you asked, various African countries have stripped rights away from other races. Along with just treating them like black people were treated in the 50’s. There are many movies on the subject, one that i frequently bring up is called Lucky, previously on Netflix. About an seemingly orphaned black boy who is taken in by a racist Indian woman who hates black people because Indians (asians in general) face oppression in that country. And while she doesnt get over her biases, she does help the boy fond a lovong home. If she for instance were to mock black people with blackface, it would atill be offensive. Even with black people as the majority. Even with the actual current evidently large waves of racism people are facing there (which is much much much worse than racism in the US.). You may also remember that while many African politicians like Mugabe hate racial minorities, other figures like Ghandi are noted in hating black people.

It isnt just them. Korea, China, and Japan arent fond of each other. Racial/ethnic caricatures wouldnt be acceptable there either.

In the end, you should be against the action itself. Racist actions shouldnt be more or less acceptable depending on their target. You should be against them regardless. No thinking it’s okay when you do it. No merely assuming that others arent offended by it. No trying to justify it or pretending like it is harmless. Is it race based bigotry (racism)? Then you should be against it.

Me honestly saying that one form of racism has a different history than another doesn’t mean I’m offended by it. It’s not okay to hate anyone, and white people do face racism but for different reasons. Racism against white people is done by stupid people that think that they’re getting back at white people for all the things they’ve done even though 99% of white people have never done anything at all, racism against black people is caused by people thinking black people are literally dirty inferior beings. Of course the subject of racism is a lot more complicated than that but that’s generally the case. What I was saying came out as racism against white people is acceptable, what I’m trying to say is the history and context of racism against black people and white people is different and it’s not bad to acknowledge that.

Racism is based on your actions, not your history. You dont get to refuse to hire a qualified person for being white and say “well there’s different histories-”. It’s still racism.

You get robbed at gunpoint by black people maybe once a month or two. And it’s only black people robbing you. So you begin to think that black people are inherently violent. That is how racism can develop. Or when youre told that white people are the cause of all of the world’s problems. Racism. There are even stupid people who mistake white people being the racial majority with white people doing something bad more often cand they use that as an excuse to generalize white people as bad. I have been attacked by black people. Most of the people in my life who have broken into my house or done drive by shootings in our neighborhoods or sell drugs on the street or rob my favorite stores and cause them to get closed down are black. And if i were someone a little more close-minded, i might start developing bad assumptions about black people as a whole. That’s how it works. Those little doubts you have about a race seemingly becoming justified and you feel more and more comfortable in your bigotry.

The same thing happens with other groups. Someone who was raped by a lesbian or merely read about it may assume that all lesbians are like that. Then they start not trusting them around children and start seeing them as untrustworthy. You dont consider hiring them, you vote against them in court, you see them as lesser. It has nothing to do with religion or an assumption that heterosexuals are better. It is literally that easy to become a bigot.

You should just be against racism/bigotry in all of its forms. A group being the majority doesnt stop it from being bigotry. When you call it out when it happens to one race and stay silent when it happens to another, you are essentially exercising a double standard that makes said bigotry worse.

I’ve been trying not to get political, but Keyhollow is right. The problem people have with the Hijab is how women in the Middle East are often forced to wear them, and how in other countries women are shamed if they don’t wear them. Also, prior to 1979, most Muslim women DIDN’T wear a headscarf. If a woman chooses to wear one without fear of being shamed, attacked, or arrested, that’s fine. However, women in the Middle East don’t have that choice, and THAT’S why people have a problem with it.
