Seven? Please, there would be at leasteight. We would! All the more reason for it to happen. I mean, the world needs crazy people like us ruling it! I’m sure she would if you smiled really sweetly on your birthday, though. That is very true. Cause giving it to you one time would be setting the expectation and that wouldn’t be good. BUT you could be like a walking advertisement. Carrying around her ice cream and stuff.

That is an amazing idea. We could put up signs in the produce sections of grocery stores and markets and stuff. It’ll be great. You are the bestest friend a girl could ask for, Hippie Girl. No one else understands my particular brand of crazy. Or at least puts up with it for this long. …I bet it’s cause I have dolphin friends, isn’t it? Nope. I would have laughed in my face if I went back in time and told myself that I was dating Sam. But if I told myself about you and Charlie, I would act like a goof toward you two until you got together. Me, too. We should spread it around La Paz and then make it the national religion when we’re the world rulers. Psh, that’s totally not oppression.

'Specially after I told you. Weeell, people should be able to decide for themselves, but since everybody with a sound mind loves cookies it'd be an easy choice.

And if by awful you mean absolutely fantastic, then yes, yes it would be. We’d have people falling all over us. And giving us stuff. And maybe Charlie would give them free ice cream since the person would kind of look like you. Or she’d refuse to spite the part that looked like me. Talk about an internal conflict.

Ooh, maybe you’re right. You should be an ambassador for them or something. To like…help people understand that they shouldn’t discriminate against them just because of stereotypes. Nuts and bananas need friends and rights and things, too. No shushing will be done. I will bask in adorableness all I want. I was just checking! You never know. What if you had met some other insane, dolphin obsessed girl to be your best woman? Where would I be then? Hm? I think it’s going pretty well by my experience, which is zilch, so take that as you will. True that. Why is there no cookie religion by now? I feel like cookies are something that could be worshiped. They’re pretty sacred. Cookianity. Cookieism. Something like that.

And like seven people asking us to marry them everyday. At the least. We'd be ruling the world, gosh. Ha, as if. Charlie isn't even giving me free ice cream. But in the long run, it's smart of her. because she'd lose an awfully big amount of money by me stuffing my face with ice cream.

Oh God, yes. Let's found a charity organisation, Stelle. We'd collect signatures against the discrimination of nuts and bananas and make the world a better place. Uh-uh. I could've met Angelina Jolie and you'd still be my best woman. We're talking the same batshit crazy language, girl. So is mine and I feel like it's going pretty well too. Look at us, Stelle. Would you have thought we'd both be ever in an established relationship? Hell yes. Cookianity sounds better. I'm a proud Cookianist.

I visited my cousin’s college. It kind of like… reminded me of what I missed out on, I guess.

I know that feeling. I usually get it after watching one of these cheesy American movies.

But hey, so far life has been pretty splendid to us too.

Candy had always been a loving and devoting person. If she loved, she did it with her whole heart. 

And Candy loved summer.

Living in La Paz meant an average temperature of 68° Fahrenheit, but summer always made its presence felt. The air was somehow fresher, the grass greener, the ocean more iridescent and the people happier.

Life was good in summer.

Summer meant staying up late, stuffing her face with all kinds of fruit pie; it meant recording mixtapes for special people for special moments; it meant sleeping in the hammock and watching the stars; it mean girls and boys walking around lightly clad, pleasing to the eye, yet super confusing for Candy, because so many people were so pretty; it meant no school; it meant happiness.

Summer also meant her distant relative Ana was visiting. Ana was two years older than Candy and linda como una pincesa.

Ana's visits were lots of fun, mostly because she always brought something exciting. One time it was wine coolers, another time a pack of cigarettes. Apart from tangible stuff, Ana also brought knowledge, exciting stories and gossip.

She was the one teaching Candy about the important things in life. One rainy day, they sat together in the kitchen and Ana taught her everything about sex and sexual preferences by using vegetables and fruits.

And one summer, Candy woke up from her winter sleep with a crush on Ana. It had been a long time in coming and she knew - she knew it was foolish.

There still was a tiny spark of hope, wasn't there? Wasn't there always?

It would have been one of the best summers they had ever spent together - if it hadn't ended with Candy kissing her and Ana letting it happen, only to laugh and tell her everybody went through a phase like this.

It had hurt. A lot.

But Candy got over it, eventually. She had no other choice, since Ana fell in love with Candy's older brother Philipe the next year.

The wedding was two years later.

Candy still loved summer though, because she met a fabulous girl at the dolphin tank in the aquarium, that summers were even more fun with.
