Shanks is one of the funniest characters in media. Like he’s hyped up as one of the strongest and coolest character in the world. Then when you finally learn more about him and he’s like clinically depressed and wants to sail off into the sunset with a literal fucking clown. What a guy.

I want to get this out somewhere and I decided it was tumblr where I was going to post it.

I grew up with overwatch since winter 2016 when I was 10. I originally got it for my dad as a gift which wasn’t the plan because I was trying to get another game for him that he wanted (can’t remember what game) but our GameStop was out of stock so I grabbed the first game I saw which was overwatch. It looked cool and it was an online game so I assumed my dad would liked it. He never really got into but I tried it that night with him watching me.

I immediately got really into overwatch and started playing as much as I could on our Xbox in the livingroom. My dad would sit on the couch and watch me and cheer me on, he would get excited with whenever I got a legendary in a loot box. He would let me skip school on the days a new character would come out so I could play them right when they dropped. Everytime an event would start he would buy me 60 lootboxes.

He would always ask me about overwatch because he knew I loved the game so much. He would show me cool videos he found on it and even watch how to play videos to understand the game better so we could bond more over it.

Even when we started drifting apart and he and my mom separated. Everytime I saw him he would ask me about what’s new in the game and talk about with me. He got excited with me watching the junkerqueen animated short.

When he died it felt weird not to immediately call him and tell him about the new update or new character coming out. It’s kinda embarrassing to admit I get sad when I watch old loot box opening videos and all I can think about is him.

Overwatch means a lot to me, I found a lot of my lifelong friends in it, and it was a way for me and my dad to bond even when things got strained. Happy 10 year anniversary.
