Armin and Alexy Arc Theories
Now, with being in the process of the Lysander Arc, Iâve been speculating like many others in the fandom over what would happen in the Armin and Kentin Arcs. From my personal opinion, I see Kentins arc to be related to his overbearing and somewhat overprotective father and military school. But Iâm not gonna talk about that, I wanna talk about Armins Arc.
Now like many, I also do think that Alexy will be taken into account for this arc as well (same as Amber herself was involved in Nathanielâs arc, however quite scarce, still important).
The main âpossibleâ opinion of an arc is the factor of Alexy and Arminâs genetically ârealâ birth parents. There is speculation that their birth parents will come back to meet them and very possibly try to take them back and such, and there will be someway to convince them otherwise yadayadayada.
But..the point of the arcs is to have a sense of character development within Candy and within the boys. And that type of tale, despite possible, doesnât seem to do much.
Some other theories Iâve speculated are more âpersonalâ issues that may revolve around Armin or Alexy.
Letâs start with Armin.
Armin is incredibly chill, weâve known that from the beginning. Heâs our token gamer boy of course! But..how much more to him is there?
Armin very rarely gets angry, (unless he is putting all his anger into his games), itâs shown that he has little care for his wellbeing to the point of not caring much for the clothes he wears as his own brother has to pick them out, he goes through life very sluggishly. Now as a ((I assume)) 16-17 year old guy, he seems very behind on considering his future. Candy herself has depicted Armin as an âI-donât-care-istâ and itâs true. It doesnât seem that Armin cares for anything that is related to his wellbeing. He cares for his family, friends and girlfriend and that seems to be where the line is drawn. He never seems to care for himself. He never seems to be that interested in his own wellbeing. And in those situations, it can reach a point where it can become quite severe. To a point where it can come to him neglecting his own life. Because he doesnât seem to care. Every character should have a fatal flaw. At this point of time, it seems Arminâs is the concern of his own wellbeing. He isnât the guy who would allow others to see him in true distress, and in that type of situation, he may keep conflicting feelings to himself. What those conflicted feelings are? Iâm not too sure myself..
Now with the case of Alexy.
My question is: Is he just a token Gay character, or was his character developed that way for a reason?
If he is just a token character, then my theory is out the window. If not, then there may be some truth.
Now, I doubt Beemoov would go into a very real and ongoing issue such as âhomophobiaâ since it is a very delicate subject, however they did address the issue of physical and emotional child abuse, so there is that possibility.
NowâŠâwhy did Armin and Alexy move in the first place to Sweet Amoris?â
Candy moved for her parents, Kentin moved for Candy and Priya moved for her family because of the constant travelling. It isnât addressed why Armin and Alexy moved. And my guess is a (sadly) common issue of conflict coming towards Alexy. Either Armin or Alexy state (I forgot which), that they like Sweet Amoris much more then their old school and they donât miss it at all. My opinion is that very possibly-Alexy may have faced some type of homophobia. Alexy was introduced as gay in Episode 12, which was released on December 2012. Same Sex marriage became legal in France on May 2013. So this could go into further account of homosexuality still not being accepted during the moment of Alexyâs first appearance. Showing even more possibility of Alexy possibly being a victim of bullying. True, with Alexyâs personality, he doesnât come off as the type to be offended, but people can hide their feelings. And Alexy is the type to put away his feelings for the sake of others ((as shown for Kentin girls)) and he definitely doesnât seem to be the type to allow his friends to make a fuss over him. It is a little out of place though, considering he very calmly opened up to Candy. But maybe perhaps that was a quick way to see her reaction? Maybe the case of his old friends not accepting him, and not wanting to go through the pain again? Iâm not sure what this would entail, but itâs possible that this issue may come back to haunt him, and Armin may or may not be the only one able to reach out to him. Armin having to grow a pair and stand up.
To be Honest, I am fifty-fifty about wanting Beemoov to address Homophobia. Because depending on how they address it and how they write, they may or may not hurt and/or offend many players. If they do take that path, they must be very considerate.
Which in some ways I hope they do like they did with Nathanielâs route. But there are still some doubts that I hold.
Anyway these are just observations and speculations, so I may be completely off and over analysing, but I felt the need to share.
