Introduction for N’Vas (he/him), my vulcan sona oc. About under cut!
Age in 2265: 29
Starting rank on Enterprise: Lieutenant
End of 5yr mission: Lt. Commander
TWoK & beyond: Commander
Division: Sciences or engineering. Has long phases switching between them.
Study: Exobiology, xenoanthropology, in-depth mechanics training and skill.
Primary station: Secondary bridge science officer
Intelligent, assertive with strong beliefs and morals. He's chatty, incredibly sweet, and maintains a formal demeanor, though can be withdrawn. He struggles to grapple depression, self worth, and loneliness. He's much more expressive than most vulcans and lets more feeling through, though he still practices techniques to control the mind space and uses some emotional restraint suppressing some areas more than others. He is gay and transmasc.
Born on Earth with vulcan parents, he spends over half of his childhood growing up there. Though bullied for his logical & literal thinking and social difficulties, he connects deeply with human expression and culture. He's pushed heavily to be an exemplary vulcan by family which he tries to force himself to be. They move to Vulcan in his teens, and while he loves it and his culture he faces a different variation on his struggles getting ostracized for being too off putting & emotional. This contrast has great influence on who he is and it's a struggle that affects much of his life, he doesn't fit the vulcan mold but sticks out in human spaces.
He gives up trying to make himself something he's not and moves back to Earth and joins Starfleet when he's 20, figuring out who he wants to be and forming his own principles & balance. He spends longer in the pipeline than usual but uses the time getting proficient in two science fields & mechanics and advancing his rank. Enterprise is his first large scale vessel assignment. He's placed in engineering for most of the first year before a position in sciences on the bridge opens up.
Relationships:
Spock: Friends to lovers
They click immediately, lots of shared interests and experiences. They talk about philosophy, ethics, their science work, odd things about their human coworkers, and on all the time. Very passionate but good spirited debates, they help each other see things the other hadn't regularly and the ways the other hurts very clearly. They bond very closely.
Scotty: Crushes to lovers
They find each other both so charming and endearing, the crush develops quickly for both of them but it takes a long time to do anything about it. N'Vas loves his sweetness and bold personality instantly and Scotty is quite enamored with him. They get along very well as friends and coworkers, and they love digging into the ship together even after N'Vas moves divisions. Scotty is always asking if he can be spared to help work. They can talk ship mechanics and manuals for ages.
Kirk: Tense friends, to lovers
They have a bit of a tough start. N'Vas is still adjusting to the command structure and it takes a little time for him to understand it, he gives occasional unsolicited opinions and different ideas as a habit and Kirk doesn't like to feel like his command is questioned. This unfortunately leads to some misunderstandings, but once they're each sorted out N'Vas learns to keep his tounge and Kirk comes to like his feedback when requested. They grow on each other incredibly quickly, they like the others personality and mannerisms a lot and love one another before it turns romantic.
Sulu: Great friends
They also click pretty instantly, they bond over historical topics and sparring. N'Vas loves sharing ecology knowledge with him and helps to tend his plants. They work together occasionally when N'Vas needs his knowledge as a botonist.
Uhura: Great friends
They get along very well and absolutely exchange gossip heard from different departments. They enjoy dancing together, and sharing songs and poetry. They both feel like they can confide in one another.
Chekov: Friends
Not super close but they definitely really like each other. Chekov likes trying to get a rise and laughs out of N'vas, it works all the time, but his non-stop "made in Russia" bits do get on his nerves somewhat. He's nice about it though, and tries to entertain him. They work side by side and on the same projects frequently with Chekov dipping into sciences.
McCoy: rough mutual respect, to eventual friends
Personality clash. Early on if you asked them if they liked the other the answer would have been no. McCoy's usual ribbing, teasing, and catty attitude does not work on N'Vas and he quits it pretty quickly. It's a sensitive spot for him, he doesn't understand the flavor of humor, and he's terrible at comebacks. They're never hostile though, and respect each other greatly. They start to get along better post TMP and come to like each other.
A proper introduction to Vander, and my very first ref sheet! He’s part of a group of alternative subculture themed canine characters I plan to make slowly, and I think they also act as my fursona.
This is my first drawing in Krita. Just switched to linux so my very legal copy of clipstudiopaint no longer worky :<
So this is a bit rougher than usual as I don't know what i'm doing yet (and also am tired and need to go to bed).
I am genuinely so emotional I have never been given art of my ocs unprompted before this means so much to me you have no idea, I’m so honored that you were inspired by one of my designs to draw. You did so well with them I love it I’ll cherish this forever 🥺🫶
As for lore, unfortunately I don’t have much of a story come up with yet I hope it’ll come to me in the future. I’m not a big story writer sadly. They live in a pretty regular, equal world of other bipedal anthros. Humans are like what they are to us so fictional media is unchanged. Time is also concurrent to ours. I do though have a bunch of thoughts on stuff like their personality, what he likes, and stuff he does! As mentioned in the original post they’re the first individual in an alternative themed canid group, they’re all friends and in a mixed genre band together. I’ve existed in the alt space for so long I’ve wanted to make something that shows appreciation and knowledge for all of these subcultures, being goth myself made making Vander easy but I don’t know how detailed I’ll get with the others. I also wanted a nice comfort space to draw characters of my own.
If you or anyone else has any specifying questions or want to know about any traits further it’s best to put it in my ask box, that way I don’t clog up everyone’s feeds with reblogs of the original post! Thank you so much again for your interest it means everything to me I never imagined I might get this.
