*dies inside but in a xue yang sort of way* my biid manifests in my eye and my pinkie and i wondered for years why its so specific and i know u cant solve medical stuff with spiritual stuff but. My most recent past life was a deer and i died getting shot in the eye (the same eye my biid says is Wrong) and as xue yang my pinkie got fucking Murkedâąïž. So. Theres that.
*simps in xue yang* if you pay attention to me i will love you forever and thats just something were all gonna have to deal with

Alterhuman Terminology in Other Languages
So I have been thinking if there exist translations to other languages for alterhumanity, plurality, kinity, kithness, vampirism, etc. I specifically looked at Spanish ones because that is my native language. All I could find was this and this.
However now I am wondering how would alterhuman terms in other languages looks like, or if it even exists. Does anybody have sources?
German-speaking countries imported the were (later therian), otherkin, draconic and furry communities and largely kept the terminology. How a particular community defines their terms can be slightly different from the international community. Just because people adopted a word from english-speakers doesnât mean that they also adopt every definition change that happens in international spaces, if they pay attention to those at all. Youâll also come across the term âSeelentierâ (Seele = soul, tier = animal). Itâs used to refer to a strong spiritual bond shared with an animal, which includes, but is not limited to, people who self-describe as therians.
Old furries sometimes divide the fandom into âFurfansâ and âSeelenfursâ depending on whether someone participates in the fandom because they simply are interested in anthropomorphic animals or whether they fit the description of a therian. This divide exists because the german-speaking furry fandom used to be synonymous with the therian community in the early days. Both communities were dragged over the pond and built up by people who often had a very strong connection with their animal side, and some of them still view therianthropy and being a furry as the same thing. As more and more people joined who simply liked furry art, the fandom grew more superficial. The spiritual beginnings lost importance and the communities grew somewhat apart.
Iâm not sure if german-speaking folks have adopted âheartedness or any other recent alterhuman terms. Iâm largely sticking out of strictly âkin-centric spaces. Some probably have if they follow what goes on in the international community. My small internet home lies in the overlap between furries, therians, âkin and draconics, where âheartedness and âlinking serve no real purpose.
I havenât touched the modern vampire community in years, but last time I checked, they liked to call themselves vampyres with a Y.
My short cursory search into german-speaking plural spaces (excluding tulpamancy) exclusively came up with support groups that center a medicalized understanding of DID/OSDD/adjacent things (not) in the ICD/DSM. One group proposed an âego state disorderâ that reads as âsinglet-adjacentâ medianhood to me. The descriptions talked about people who switch between different versions of themselves, but never experience their facets as distinct people who they could have a conversation with. If you dig around long enough, youâll probably find something similar to the plural community though. I just havenât done it.
I could dig up some sources if someone who can read German was seriously interested. Iâm afraid though that most communities that I know of have already disappeared into digital decay. I canât even retrieve the forum (Wortquell anyone?) where I first learned what a âwereâ, a âtherianâ and âshiftingâ were through the waybackmachine.
alterhuman =/= otherkin
I keep seeing this conflation and itâs getting to be a huge problem, with some âalterhumanâ places being either kin-specific, nonhuman-specific, or even sysmedicalist??Â
Otherkin are constantly upset over the preservation of the definition of otherkin, but I have seen none of that concern extended to the definition of alterhuman, which was coined âŠ. because otherkin were concerned about becoming an umbrella term and losing the definition of otherkin.Â
You see the problem here?Â
Alterhuman is an umbrella. Itâs a wide, wide umbrella thatâs very comparable to âqueerâ in how itâs inclusive and open. It includes âkin, sure, but it also includes post/furries, voidpunkers, other-hearted people and people with heart-homes, plurans of ALL kinds, singlet walk-ins, copinglinkers, and pretty much anyone with non-typical experiences of species identity, embodiment, narrative identity and personal mythology. You know what other identities Iâve seen that donât fit in those nice labels? People who identify as archetypal tropes, or âwild men,â or early hominids, or even having absolutely no species identity and being âaspecies.â I know someone who feels deeply like they should have been a twin and feels that in an alterhuman way. Iâm close to someone who is literally undead â not Cotardâs delusional undead (though those people are here, too!), but literally was pronounced legally dead and resuscitated. Thatâs pretty fucking alterhuman. And thereâs plenty more I know Iâm either forgetting or leaving out for brevity.
Alterhuman is meant to encompass identities you probably havenât even thought of before, people who use different words or frameworks for similar experiences, and more. It is not a synonym for otherkin, it is not here to replace otherkin, and it is also not a synonym for nonhuman. Alterhuman is alterhuman. If you say something is for alterhumans, you should mean ALL alterhumans.
Just to mention it bc french community pride : there was a term used in french alterhuman circles, otherhuman, for early hominids or humans who were convinced they should have been born in another universe, including fictional! Itâs extremely interesting, and I just want to put it out there because people donât always realize that, yeah being otherkin is not the only alterhuman thing, and there are many, many weird things. Iâd love to read more non otherkin experiences, feeling Non-Human is just one part of the group.
Thank you so much for that addition because âotherhumanâ is such a good word. Bless French alterhuman communities :D this is amazing thanks for sharing! (Also if you have any links to writing about this or French alterhuman sites or anything Iâm very open to this :o)

one thing we need to reconcile with the otherkin community is some of us DO see ourselves as fully non-human in the present. like im not partially human or a human with past lives, im a robot and thats where this begins and ends. itâs how i fully see myself all the time and itâs very different from my past life kintypes in that way.
and like idk i feel like a lot of âkin folx tend to try to avoid topics like this because itâs definitely weirder (read: less socially acceptable) than âi have past lives that influence my current life but im still mostly humanâ, but trying to appeal to non-kin sensibilities in that way is useless and frankly completely stupid because you KNOW non-kin will never get it.
i guess my point is yes itâs weird and yes it invites mockery but so what? cringe blogs and similar people on the internet will always laugh at us. sanitizing the community because you think itll make bullies be nicer to us is just really fucking dumb.
we are in final boss territory, kiddos
Thereâs this post in the kin tag talking about punk-kin and being uh⊠not the brightest on it, but Iâm thinking shit. kinpunk would be really coolÂ
Like something aboutÂ
Rejection of human social normsÂ
Embracing abnormal experiencesÂ
Embracing abnormal not human behaviorsÂ
Wearing makeup to look nonhuman, wearing tails, etcÂ
The use of cosplay too in a fictionkin senseÂ
Trying to do good in the world on the basis youâre not from itÂ
etcâŠÂ
Sort of like voidpunk but for people who actually identify as nonhuman, or maybe alterpunk/ahpunk (alterhuman) to be more broad.Â
The person who originally posted it was talking about âkin who break stereotypesâ but I feel like kinpunk would be people who actually fit the stereotypes. People who make nonhuman vocalizations, who make themselves look nonhuman, who are eccentric about having a strange or unusual identity, etc. Just being unashamed to be what you are and expressing it.Â
In terms of rejecting gatekeeping, that should be a thing too, but not âpeople can pick their kintypesâ. I mean accepting fictionkin from weird sources, objectkin, conceptkin, and so on.Â
weâve had conversations about something like this in alt+h! and like, as much as i want to say âalterhumanâ already is all that⊠like, on the one hand, the word was coined by people with certain ideologies and is generally used by people with certain ideologies, on the other hand, i donât think itâs the best idea to say you have to believe certain things and take certain stances to use an identity-word, so i see the logic behind wanting words to describe those ideas and potential movements as a separate thing.
and yâknow, clearly other people think similarly, if other people are having this idea too. and coming up with a lot of the same points! so i figured iâd include some of the conversation on alt+h abt it under the cut for interestâs sake.
(tl;dr for anyone who doesnât want to read beyond this point: the idea started pretty much identically to what OP stated, and as we explored it we found that it had areas where it expanded beyond the boundaries of alterhuman identity per se. we talked about calling it ontopunk, both because of this and issues with âalter-â as a prefix. there are some good ideas in here, and they donât necessarily need to be only for otherkin and alterhumans!)

My morty was nb and i remember faer using fae/faer pronouns but that could be a personal bias
Me morty and summer were all autistic
Morty had a lowkey crush in me for like a month and it was extremely awkward fkr all of us until fae got over it
