But posting negative & offensive posts isn't making the fandom a safer place. Calling people nazi sympathizers, misogynstic & racist just because they like a character doesn't help. Many Ward fans don't defend his actions, but have provided proof that he isn't a neonazi & is indeed an abuse victim. Ward has done horrible things, but when I go to his tag, I don't want to be accused of being a nazi/rape sympathizer. Being aggressive just because some SWW fans are doesn't help the situation at all.

I’m sorry you don’t feel calling out problematic behavior in the fandom and stay alert about people spreading hurtful ideas and actually hurting real people in the process is important but I personally do.

Mischaracterizing the anti-SWW fans, another usual tactic you assholes like to use. No one is calling people Nazi sympathizers because they like a character, even though this character happens to be a Nazi. We call them Nazi apologists because they have said Nazi apologizing stuff in this website many many oh so many fucking times and continue to try to bully people into buying their Nazi apologizing ideas or at least get people who oppose to their defense of a Nazi to shut up via harassment, acting like NeoNazism and antiseminism don’t exist in the real world or aren’t gaining popularity.
We are not calling people misogynistic because they like a character (even a misogynistic character, a sexual abuser and predator), we call them misogynistic because they have continuously said misogynistic stuff to defend Ward, like saying Skye left Providence with him “willingly”, saying Ward’s relationship with May was consensual or that she even initiated it, or erasing a canon rape threat and saying a lot of other amazing rape culture bullshit in the process, claiming REVERSE SEXISM ZOMG, victim-blaming Skye for not falling in the arms of her abuser, calling her a monster for defending herself, saying Simmons was awful for letting her Super Nazi disgusting piece of shit of a lab partner take the fall instead of giving herself and all her SHIELD intel up to Hydra, comparing Ward being a secret NeoNazi and working against the team to May spying on Coulson because she thought that would protect him or Skye not telling the team in the beginning he was in SHIELD to get information who was rightfully hers or Bobbi not telling she was in real!SHIELD which she believed would protect many people, continuously shitting on characters like Natasha Romanoff to prop Ward, ignoring how Ward abused Kara Palamas and was responsible for her death and and actually shipping a victim with her rapist, etc.
We don’t say Wardstans are racist because they like a character (even one who works for a fascist organization and holds fascist ideals and has victimized many people of color personally), we say they are racist for spreading racist rethoric in defense of a Nazi, like shitting on women of color constantly, denying how Ward has abused Skye, May and Kara, using Sam Wilson as the redemption tool of a NeoNazi, accusing Skye of being responsible for Trip’s death, shipping a woman of color with the NeoNazi who threatened to rape her, making a counter blog to a blog celebrating AoS characters of color and women because that blog wanted to be a Ward-free space, mocking Skye for saying Ward looks like a Hitler youth or characterizing her as ignorant for saying he is a Nazi with all its connotations, saying Mack deserved to die for some imagined wrongs yet Ward has to be forgiven and rehabilitated after multiple murders, kidnappings, terrorism and abuse, SAYING SKYE IS NOT A POC BECAUSE CHLOE BENNET LOOKS WHITE, mocking and harassing Chloe Bennet for being proud of being the lead of the show, reverse racism WELP, etc.

No, they haven’t provided “proof”, they have gone on more Nazi-apologizing tirades which are not supported by canon, logic or human sympathy, and then have gone on to try to paint our heroes as worse than Nazis. We just say that him being an abuse victim does not excuse the way he has abused others, and that the way the SWWers use Ward’s past abuse to ignore his victims’ pain and exonerate him is incredibly problematic and pro-abuse.

Either you’re searching words instead of tag or you are on mobile, either way it’s not my fault, and you Wardstans need to stop trying to silence everyone who disagrees with you even when we never use your tags (in fact I tag most things as “anti sww” so that people wanting to avoid those posts can blacklist the tag, and it’s really easy to block me personally, which you should do instead of coming to my inbox with more unfounded Ward apologia).
Also if you like Ward but do not excuse his canonical NeoNazism or his canonical sex abuse towards other characters, why would you feel personally attacked by my words? If you do not do these things you are not part of the people I’m calling out. Ah this one is nice. It combines tone policing over the manner in which I express my anger at the racist, misogynistic way some bullies treat people in this fandom, with a minimizing of the situation by saying only “some SWW fans” are aggressive. No, the whole movement is gross and aggressive. There are no “good SWWers”. There are Grant Ward fans who might not be problematic, but ALL SWWers fans are problematic because their raison d’etre and the things they want belong to a racist, misogynistic, victim-blaming, Nazi-apologizing agenda.

I love how people bend over backwards and twist the facts to express just how much rage they have because the writers didn’t do what they wanted them to. And I especially love their half-assed attempt to throw in some social justice talk to legitimize their absurd arguments.
Skye/Daisy has been EXPLICITLY established as a chinese-american superhero, they cast a chinese-american actress. If you, by your words erase that very canon fact just because she goes by the name Daisy Johnson now, then you are the problem, not the writers, not the show. You are choosing to see ‘Daisy Johnson’ as erasure when canon has told us the truth, no matter what name she has now. Also, last time I checked, she never had a chinese name, you’re acting as though ‘Skye’ was the thing that gave away her heritage. What?
The name Skye chooses to go by is her choice and you trying to twist this into some kind of social justice rant in order to try to shit on the show because it didn’t live up to your wishes, won’t change canon facts. Your gross attempt to guilt trip people because you are a Skye “fan” is invalid.
You know who are the people who truly, deeply hate Skye’s guts? Peeps who still ship her with a canonically nazi villain who has done nothing but abuse her. You claim to care so much about Skye and her chinese side, you claim to care so much about people of color, why do you ship Skye with that scumbag, then?

Warnings and Tags on Ao3
Following some rather unproductive discussions with alkenifanfiction on whether or not it is appropriate to request that writers of SkyeWard rape fiction remove the Skye/Ward relationship tag from their fics, I contacted the Ao3 Abuse Team admins for clarification.
Reproduced below are the relevant portions of their replies (much of it is basically thanking me for my concern for other users; I won’t copy that part). Bolded and italicised for emphasis by me. If anyone would like to see the full copies of the emails sent to me by Ao3, please advise and I am happy to post them under a cut.
“The Terms of Service are quite clear about appropriate tagging of work in section IV.K.3 (http://archiveofourown.org/tos#IV.K.3) of the ToS: “There are two components to warnings on the Archive. Archive warnings: Creators can select from a list of Archive warnings. Secondary (optional or additional) tags, including warnings: Creators can define their own tags, as seriously or as humorously as they like. These can include specific content warnings. The warnings policy only covers Archive warnings.”
“Specifically, the ‘secondary’ tags are wholly optional, and users are free to use or not use them as they desire. The Abuse team does not police these tags, as they are non-obligatory so users who wish to write a fic containing rape or non-con with the Skyeward pairing are welcome to tag or not tag with that pairing as long as the fic is otherwise correctly rated. Additionally, the ToS states several times under section IV.K. “It is our policy to defer to creators’ categorizations” so you can rest assured that should we begin receiving tickets from users who wish for the Skyeward pairing to be removed from a fic containing the Rape/Non-con Archive warning, we will not submit to their request.”

I think it’s quite clear that the Ao3 Abuse Team do not like this behaviour of requesting users to change their tags when the fic carries the appropriate warnings. Anyone who continues to do so, be warned that this is at your own risk as they are now aware of the issue and will be monitoring future such behaviour, and you risk suspension of your account privileges. I suggest you have a very thorough read of the Terms of Service.
Authors who wish to write SkyeWard rapefic; feel free to do so, (provided that you still use the appropriate Archive Warning (Rape/non-con)) and to tag it in the Skye/Ward relationship tag with the full knowledge that anyone who asks you to remove the tag is acting in a manner contrary to the ToS, no matter how ‘politely’ the request is made, as it is considered to be harassing behaviour. However, Ao3 do recommend that you restrict your works and comments to logged-in users. This enables you to avoid anonymous abuse and to report any users who continue to act in this manner. And please do report any such requests or flames that you get. Ao3 take abuse and harassment very seriously and they will not stand for it.
If you know anyone who has been harassed in this manner, or anyone who is considering writing a fic that displays Ward in a negative light (I’ve received abuse myself for this. I’ll be reporting any further incidents, believe me) but is nervous because of the inevitable harassment from SWW fans, then please, reblog this. It’s important that writers feel free to write whatever they want to without fear of being harassed or denigrated for their choice of subject matter.
Fandom is not anyone’s safe space. If you don’t want to believe that SkyeWard rapefic exists, learn to use filters.

AGREED seriously I laughed very hard at this (and also at Ward’s Emotive Potato Face).
Ward’s Emotive Potato Face was put to such great use here, though. The actor direction in this was so amazing. The pause Brett made after Kara says “you look so well-adjusted” is deserving of at least two more Teens Choice Awards imho. This was a such a flawless episode.
Absolutely my favourite episode and agreed on all points about the actor direction. Ming-Na and Chloe did such great work with Kara too, I really felt like they constructed her as a believably separate person (and the only other show I’ve really felt that with is Orphan Black - and I guess Dollhouse with Enver’s performances).
Like, with Ward, this is the kind of scene where he’s exactly the villain that I love to hate. If only Ward (and Brett) would stop trying to argue he’s worthy of redemption, ugh.
I also love the poignant symbolism here - Kara, a woman of color Ward is currently manipulating and will go on to sexually abuse, talking with the voice of a woman of color Ward sexually abused, wearing the face a woman of color Ward emotionally abused and planned to sexually abuse. It’s a weird Frankenstein’s monster made up from both Ward’s fantasies and sins. Coming from the people who made Dollhouse no one can convince me these choices weren’t totally on purpose to achieve the kind of effect these scenes have.
And I think it helps as a sort of almost Brechtian alienating effect that keeps us from emotionally feeling the full impact of seeing someone who looks like Skye in the hands of Ward. The audience does not want to see Skye’s face all submissive and pliable and kissing Ward, it’s inherently disturbing for the audience of this show to witness these actors in a romantic context inside the show, but giving May’s voice to Kara here helps us remember that this is not Skye, yet it’s also double horrifying because in the end it’s the voice of another one of Ward’s victims (& like the beginning of the episode, where the audience is meant to be disturbed by seeing someone with May’s face acting all romantic towards Ward), and it’s even worse because in the end THIS IS KARA being abused by Ward, and unlike Skye and May she will never have enough identity or agency to ever fight back against her abuser.
I mean I have thought too much about the decision to make a composite of Kara/May/Skye for these anti-romantic scene. I HAVE MANY FEELS, OKAY. complicated perfect scenes here.
