theres a les mis joke here somewhere
Grantaire, in whom doubt was creeping, loved to see faith soaring in Enjolras. He had need of Enjolras. Without understanding it himself clearly, and without trying to explain it, that chaste, healthy, firm, direct, hard, candid nature charmed him. He admired, by instinct, his opposite. His soft, wavering, disjointed, diseased deformed ideas, attached themselves to Enjolras as a backbone. His moral spine leaned upon firmness. Grantaire, by the side of Enjolras, became somebody again. - Les Misérables, Victor Hugo
I think I'm gonna start making fanart of your texts, if that's okay with you? Any headcanon you have for modern days Barricade babes' wardrobe?
oh gosh, yes!! we love fan art of our texts!!!
here’s our wardrobe headcanon for this au:
courf is kinda preppy, but in a somewhat ironic way, like he wears really nice, tailored skinny suits and his casual clothes are mostly skinny pants and button-downs which he wears with sleeves rolled up and top buttons undone and he also favors the v neck. but he’s also got this huge-ass collection of really stupid looking sweaters that he wears AT EVERY OPPORTUNITY. he loves to wear wingtip shoes. also he’s a ginge.
enjolras is one of those kids who wears only ethically-made clothes so his wardrobe is pretty sparse (which is also okay with him like jeez he does not need clothes taking up all his closet space he can use that space for other stuff). he likes skinny jeans because he feels like baggy pants trip him up, he wears a fair amount of red simply because he likes the color, and other than that he tends to prefer dark, muted colors or white or grey. sometimes courf gets tired of his lack of variety and will secretly slip into enjolras’ closet some of the clothes he doesn’t wear anymore. enjolras NEVER notices this so most of his shirts are v necks.
combeferre is a very professional pre-med student and owns almost no casual clothes, so he’s almost always in like half a suit.
jehan’s wardrobe is inexplicable. he likes scarves and LOVES stupid looking sweaters completely unironically. he’ll wear pretty much any color from ghastly mustard yellow to super pale pink and everything in between and beyond. he also sees the beauty in greys and muted colors and he really loves clothes that remind him of the middle ages so he wears stuff that alludes to that time period a lot. he has longer hair than the others and sometimes wears flowers or ribbons in it just because (he’s super cute sometimes he french-braids ribbons into his hair). anything beautiful, he loves, and he sees beauty in everything.
grantaire is a total and complete hipster. he wears skinny jeans and ironic sweaters and wingtip shoes and those boots that i don’t know what they’re called but they pretty much just scream i-only-like-foreign-experimental-films. he’s got some hipster haircut, probably an undercut or something with a shavey bit. he wears the sweaters even in the summer and everyone wonders how he doesn’t get heat stroke. the only time he’s not wearing the sweaters is when he’s wearing t-shirts that have stupid innuendos on them or are alcohol paraphernalia.
bahorel doesn’t give a shit about his appearance. he dresses like a bro, but everyone loves him anyway because he’s great.
joly is pretty conventional. he likes jeans and t-shirts as long as they’re not sloppy-looking and he wears poorly-tailored suits when he needs professional stuff for his pre-med degree. he like converse because he feels like they give him traction.
bossuet wears really weird stuff like sometimes he’s wearing shiny tank tops and little shorts and sometimes he looks like he’s dressed like the phantom of the opera and no one knows if he does this on purpose like jehan or if he’s just completely clueless.
marius IS completely clueless, but he lets courf dress him so he basically dresses like a less-tailored, more-awkward version of courfeyrac.
feuilly is poor, but sophisticated. his clothes are mostly second-hand or cheap but he puts his outfits together with care so he always looks good anyway. he tends to swing more toward professional and clean-cut than hipster or at all ironic.
please make sure to send us your art when you’re done we’d LOVE to see it!! (you can send us links if you want, or tag us in it: eeponine and laurenjolras)

One would have said, to see the pensive thoughtfulness of her glance, that she had already, in some previous state of existence, traversed the revolutionary apocalypse. She possessed the tradition of it as though she had been a witness. She was acquainted with all the minute details of the great affair.
#oh yes #who was i talking to #about how if enjolras was modern and female #she would be more of an aesthete; a woman sword or holy warrior than have ever weaponized her femininity #at least no more so than enjolras’ beauty traditionally affected people #that I don’t think was ever intentional or deliberate aggression on his part to use his looks to win people to the cause #it would be sheer unyielding magnetism of her belief #and her beauty would; as a side effect; as with him; make her an icon #an icon of violence and freedom; lady liberty standing on a burning police car #waving a red flag with a snarl on her lips and men in love with her #following her not because she has made them adore her as a woman #(which is it’s own violent kind of revolution in the body) #but because they adore her as something not even human anymore #essentially what i’m saying is that from what i know of enjolras textually #he is described in ways that are not human; are unearthly in beauty and charisma #and those qualities in man or woman create followers not out of lust or love #so much as a kind of transcendental belief in a cause #of which she/he is the icon #hence the woman kinging; because all my woman king feelings come to this #she makes herself something untouchable and inhuman and fiercely beloved nonetheless #by way of her very violence; by way of the power of her belief she holds in her body #sorry this gave me a lot of feelings #natalie dormer #has a face like a russian novel #(or a french novel as the case may be)
Sitting in a cafe near the Jardin du Luxembourg reviewing the suicide scene, I noticed that Javert committed suicide between two bridges: the Pont Notre Dame and the Pont au Change. I looked these sites up on the map and was stunned to realize Javert is standing literally in between the Notre Dame Cathedral and the Palais de Justice: the symbol of Grace and the symbol of the Law. Not only were these buildings in his line of site, he is standing smack in the middle of them. Grace on his left, Law on his right. Looking up from the Seine River, Javert would have confronted visually the very conflict that was raging in his mind. Does he follow Grace or does he follow the Law? Caught between the two and unable to reconcile them, he casts himself into the Seine.

LES MIS AU - Grantaire decides to introduce himself to the new office supervisor Enjolras.
“So… you’re the guy who’s going to be riding me for the next 6 months, huh?”
“E-excuse me?”
“Oh, nothing. You enjoy your stay now. Chief.”
“montparnasse was a child; less than twenty years of age, with a handsome face, lips like cherries, charming black hair, the brilliant light of springtime in his eyes; he had all vices and aspired to all crimes.”

↳ Feuilly
Feuilly was a workingman, a fan-maker, orphaned both of father and mother, who earned with difficulty three francs a day, and had but one thought, to deliver the world. He had one other preoccupation, to educate himself; he called this also, delivering himself. He had taught himself to read and write; everything that he knew, he had learned by himself. Feuilly had a generous heart. The range of his embrace was immense. This orphan had adopted the peoples.

❝les amis MONSTERBOYS❞: { jehan - dryad }
“i will shelter you when you’re alone. cradle you within myself, support the spirit of your mind. to natures child comes nature’s wealth.”
he is a subject of poetry and literature and that which captivates whimsical nature; from classic lore, from keats, and coleridge. jehan would rather himself nothing more than a muse for those onlooking; hiding more often among leaves and brush and making careful observation. it’s in the woods that men hold axes and hostile nature and what better is the chance to cut something down that simply enchants?
by mythology he is aware that his kindred are prominently female from the gracing likes of chrysopeleia, pitys, and eurydice. and this leads to the conclusion by many whom see him basking in the sun that he is nothing different than the rest. humans are endearing in that way but nonetheless - he would rather spend his time mingling in the trees attempting to write that which enthuses him.
by nature of the Romantic he observes leaves as they fall from his branches and flowers wilt from his forehead from their spring crown. nature is fragile and alive; ever constant - and he’s perfectly content with his own place in the teetering balance of life. he’s seen his kin burn, he’s watched the night sky glow red.
there are things that need to be changed, words to be heard, life meant to rise from the ashes.
