Not too long ago, in a quiet neighborhood, lives a young girl, named Kelly. Little Kelly was 7 years-old, with black hair that went down to the nape of her neck, blues eyes as blue as the ocean, rosy cheeks, and wonderful smile. She was well liked at school and was a very nice person. She was kinda shy, but she was very appreciated by most of the students, even the teachers. As life at school seemed to be pleasant, at home on the other hand, it was its own brand of hell.
Kelly lives alone with her mother, Cassandra. Her mother wasn’t open about it, but she holds a lot of resentment to Kelly. Cassandra barely cared too much for Kelly, ever since her birth. She was born as an attempt to salvage the relationship with her husband, Calvin. Cassandra was rather controlling and easily jealous. She was possessive of Calvin, and abusive. Forbidding him to see anyone else, he was barely allowed to see his friends. She manipulated him, taking his money, guilt-tripping him to do her bidding, and even slapping him if he ever stood up to her. One day, Calvin had enough. He decided to leave her. He wanted to take Kelly with him, for her sake, but unfortunately the court ruled that custody goes to Cassandra. Kelly was too young to understand why, but she last remembers the look on Calvin’s face as he hugged her. The tears in his as he told her that he will always love her, and he’s sorry. The memory always put her to tears.
Kelly’s daily life with her mother was very painful and laborious. It was a trial all on it’s own. Her mother scolds her for the slightest mistakes. She forces her to do chores that are too much for age. She sometimes even punishes her by hitting her with various objects and locks her in her room, if she got lucky. Kelly would often sit and silently cry in her own room, all alone. School was her only escape and her only opportunity for joy and safety. She had a friend, Joel, who was a young boy with dirty blond hair, hazel eyes, and a few missing teeth that he pulled out for the tooth fairy. He was her best friend. They would play catch, tag, pretend to be adventurers, and even play baseball. Kelly always enjoyed Joel’s company, even when they fought now and then. He was one of the main things she looks forward to when she went to school.
But one day, Joel was feeling sick. He often felt weak and had a hard time thinking. He’d have constant headaches and would often sit aside during recess. Cancer. Soon, Joel stopped showing up for school. Kelly continually got more disappointed with day he was absent. The teacher, Mrs. Bell, who had a beautiful braded hairstyle, a lovely smile and a gentle voice, had let everyone know one day that Joel was “sick.” She had everyone sign a get well card. Kelly wrote that she hopes that they get go on a real adventure when he gets out, and find Hogwarts School of Wizardry. Days past, and Joel never showed up yet. One Friday, Kelly asked when he come back to school. Mrs. Bell replied that Joel has “moved away.” Kelly was upset to hear that. She cried as soon as she heard that. But, most of the class and Mrs. Bell reassured her that she will get to see him again. Kelly was unsure, but she listened. She returns to the car, to Cassandra, who had no care for how she felt. As she enters, Mrs. Bell watches with a look of concern. On the way home, she openly blamed her for the state of their family, for Calvin leaving, for Cassandra’s pain, and for Kelly’s own pain. Kelly openly argued that she was lying, saying that she know it’s not true because Calvin said he’ll always love her. Cassandra got angry, beating her as soon as they went home. Kelly was absolutely sad and depressed. She furious threw Kelly into the closet and locked it. Kelly screamed tearfully, shouting that she was sorry and to let her out. Cassandra only told her to shut up. Kelly screamed and cried the entire night away.
Later in the weekend, on a Saturday night, Cassandra left the house as she left Kelly, locked in a closet ever since the day before. Kelly then had a panic attack, thrashing about, screaming for her mother to let her out. As she was thrashing about, something fell, something heavy. It broke the doorknob and the slowly opened. Cassandra quickly ran out of the closet and went to find Cassandra. Cassandra was nowhere to be found. She decided to check outside and find her. But out of nowhere, a flash of light has appeared. Kelly fell and was on the ground. She was breathing heavily, then fainted.
She then woke up on a hospital bed. She saw Cassandra walk down the hallway from the open door. Cassandra got out of bed and followed her. She managed to follow her to her car, trying to get her attention. She opened the door as Cassandra went into the car. Cassandra looked her with a strange look. She then came and closed Kelly’s door, then they drove on. When they arrived home, Kelly tried to get Cassandra’s attention, but there was no reaction. There was only silence. Cassandra barely even gave her a glance. This made Kelly go to her room, and sit in silence. The next day, Kelly went down to eat breakfast, but there nothing at all. Cassandra was busy on the phone, arguing with someone. She was distraught, shouting please, then eventually she went. She then started to burst into tears. Kelly was sad for her, starting to cry herself. Cassandra then her head against the wall. Kelly was alarmed and hugged her. They stayed like that for moment of time.
Later in the day, Cassandra was just sitting, with a blank look in face. Kelly tried to help her feel better, giving things from around the house she thought would make her feel better. With object she brought, Cassandra start to shiver. Her eyes widen and her voice whimpering. Kelly innocently brought some of the flowers that was in the vase, with a beautiful smile. Cassandra started to wail. Kelly’s smile started to fade. Soon, Cassandra started to scream. Kelly was getting worried, telling her to stop. Cassandra ran away from the bedroom, quickly and frantically. Kelly ran after, worried and distressed. Kelly ran to the kitchen, then to find Cassandra balled up against the corner. Kelly came up to Cassandra and hugged her. She fell asleep as the sat in the corner.
The next morning, Kelly woke up to the sound of the phone. The voice mail played, it was Mrs. Bell. She was asking where was Kelly and why she wasn’t in school. She had a serious tone in her voice. She requested the she call back as soon as she got the message. Kelly got up, then tried to wake up Cassandra, but she wouldn’t wake up. Kelly took it upon herself to cook breakfast, like how she was forced to do. She made herself and Cassandra a meal, but Cassandra wouldn’t budge. Kelly sat down and had conversations with Cassandra, asking her questions like why Calvin left, or why she was angry all the time. Cassandra gave no answer. Cassandra had the thought that she should visit the school. She told her mother and left. But, Kelly didn’t know where to find the school. She got a little lost.
As she wandered, something scurried behind her. It was almost like a blotch of darkness. As she looked for the school, she heard a bunch of mice. She turned in shock, but saw nothing. She then saw a man, standing with a face covered in darkness. She asked if she knew where her school was, but the man only looked at her, then walked away. She was confused, then something crashed in the tree behind her. She turned behind her and saw a dog with its eye popping almost out of its face. It had a few holes between its eyes and its forehead, streatched out, scrawny body, a long tail, long enough to be a whip, and it had a slurred voice with excess drool coming from its mouth. The girl stood, trying to comprehend what she’s looking at. The dog slowly walked toward her, then she ran. The dog ran after her. She was screaming as she ran, shouting for help. She turned on the corner, in hopes of losing the “dog.” She then saw a person with giant eyes and a droopy mouth down the street. He had large hands and a large body. Kelly screamed and ran, only to remember the dog was chasing her. As she balled up on the sidewalk, the dog lunged at her. As she was screaming, she looked as the big-eyed man blocked dog’s bite with his huge hand. The dog was gnawing on his hand, until he slammed it the ground. The other eye of the dog that was slammed to ground was crushed back into its face, bloody. The dog ran away. The man slowly said it was okay. The girl quickly ran back. She looked for the dog, but it was nowhere in sight. Ran away from the man. She then seen a man who was ridiculously tall. He had a lanky body, and walked over the girl. He had a light step, despite his size. The girl was shocked, then seen what looked like a fat monster, the size of a kid, slightly taller than Kelly, with oily, dark blue green skin, eyes in giant holes for eye sockets, long arms and hind legs, with a freakishly long mouth. He had a bunch of drool and snot all over his face. He tried to talk, but it was unintelligible. He ran towards her. Kelly screamed and ran. As she ran, more strange and terrifying creatures appeared. She ran until she eventually found her house. She lost the monster, and retreated to her house.
She ran to Cassandra, scared and crying. Cassandra was still in the corner. Kelly sat next to her, grasping comfort. Time passed, and it was night time. Kelly got up to make dinner, saying it was time to eat. Then, she heard a giant thump from up stairs. Kelly was scared. She looked, but Cassandra was still there. The thump was getting closer to the stairway. She was getting scared and sat next to Cassandra. The thump got louder, until was furiously hurrying down the stares. As it came down the stares, Kelly was terrified. It made to the floor they were on, then, there was a growl. Kelly started to breath heavily, screaming for her mom to protect her, then whatever it was suddenly roared and quickly showed itself as it rushed to Kelly. Kelly ran the monster struck at her. She ran through the house, hiding in Cassandra’s room. As she hid, she heard the monster roar. The monster busted open the door to the room across from where Kelly was. The sounds of it thrashing and tossing around things in the room. Kelly was scared as the monster screamed. Kelly started to cry. The foot steps of the monster grew louder as she panicked. With no hesitation, the monster spotted her. It immediately lunged at her. Kelly barely managed to escape it. She ran out of the room, then stopped to wake Cassandra. Cassandra didn’t budge. The monster came and struck Kelly, launching her the wall next to the door to outside. Kelly started to cry. She cried out loud as she lied there, as the monster came to attack her. But before she could lay another hand on her, the door quickly opened. Police quickly stormed the house, and with them, the shadow-faced man from before.
The man forced the monster back with the swipe of a hand. The monster roared as it pinned on a sharp corner of a wall, bent and restrained. The shadow-man knelt before the girl and said,
“It’s okay. You’re safe now. The monster is gone.”
The girl looked up, to see the man’s face. It was pale, with glowing blue pupils and black hair. He asked if she was okay, holding out his hand. Kelly grabbed his hand, and he helped her stand up. She then hugged him, crying. As she hugged him, the police investigating the house. Finding Cassandra, revealing her torso drenched in blood. Her wrist was slit. The shadowy man told her that her mother will be alright and to wait outside. Kelly understood and waited outside. Minutes later, the man came out. He said that everything will be fine, and that her mother just needs rest. He introduced himself as Benedict. He told Kelly that her mother put him in charge of taking care of her. Kelly understood, then Benedict wanted her to follow him. He told her not to worry about the monsters around them.
Later, they arrive at a graveyard. There was a bunch of kids playing amongst the graves. He told he to go play with them. She was still shy, but they welcomed her in. Some time passed. Days, then months, then one day, a funeral party arrived. Benedict asked Kelly to join him for this funeral. She listened and followed. Then, as the people say their last word, Kelly has seen the body. She was in complete shock at what she saw. It was her. Kelly was confused, asking Benedict what is going on. Benedict explained with a calm voice:
Kelly couldn’t believe it. She got angry, calling Benedict a liar, saying she hated him. She ran and tried to get the peoples’ attention, but no one could see her, no one could hear her. She began to get upset. No one could see Kelly, and she was getting even more upset as she tried. Then, noticed her father, Calvin. She tried to get his attention, but he couldn’t hear her. She began to quickly get upset, loudly trying to get his attention. Then, Mrs. Bell came. She was in tears, apologizing to Calvin, saying she knew something was wrong. Calvin told her that it was not her fault. He wish he could’ve protected her. He couldn’t save her, and now he can never see his daughter again. He openly apologizes to Kelly, wishing he could’ve been there for her. He says to her body, just like before in the court room, that he will always love her. After hearing that, Kelly began to cry. Benedict watched as she wept in her own funeral, as the other kids watched. Hours later, everyone left. Kelly was still crying, and Benedict watched, until eventually he walked away.
Months passed, then years passed, and Kelly’s death was regarded as a national tragedy. It was revealed that Kelly was abused by her mother, and it was suspected that she was locked in the closet, with evidence of a broken doorknob. People come to mourn the tragic loss of Kelly. It is said that you can still hear her crying when you visit her grave. The death of Kelly was remembered through the history of the United States of America.
Years have passed. Kelly was slightly deformed. Her arms and legs thin as bone, her face covered in shadow, with her eyes glowing the same blue eyes. Her hair slightly shaggy, and sitting in a curled, sad position. Then, eventually, someone called out to her. She recognized the voice. It was Joel. She slowly returned to normal, slowly smiling the same beautiful smile she always had. She gleefully laughed as she ran to Joel. Benedict was at a distance, smiling as they played.
After that moment, the crying in the graveyard was no more. Benedict’s whereabouts were unknown. But, Kelly and Joel went on an adventure amongst the stars. Traveling the cosmos to discover many things in the great unknown. And as they travelled, it is said that each year on the same day that reunited, a blue comet can be seen across the night sky, a blue as blue as the ocean.
