I'm on my own this week for the first time in...over five years? Will I do anything wildly different? Probably not.
Anyway, putting this theme week together was me alternating between, "yeah, this might as well happen" and "why have I seen almost all cosmic horror films on all of these lists" and here we are. I found enough that I haven't seen, so we're doing it.
Sequence Break (2017)
Let's get Weird about arcade games, I guess.
Oh no, why is the only woman in this written Like That.
Have you ever considered the inherent eroticism of mashing the buttons on an arcade game? Do you want to?
I certainly enjoyed some of the weird visuals and trippy sequences, but I hated the way the only woman in the film was written (literally I was trying to figure out a plot relevant reason for her *gestures broadly* but I think they were being sincere, unfortunately) and I also kind of didn't care about the dull main character guy. Like, you can't rely on erotic arcade game theatrics to make your film interesting or compelling.
