Justice & Strength
IT WAS RARE that Minori ever truly relax, and it proved to be nothing if not ironic that Tane had been the only person to regularly achieve success at putting her in such a state thus far. As he was someone who was rarely calm, always so full of pent up AGGRESSION and energy, it was a miracle she only really found herself at peace when she was near him. His presence often put her in a certain state of tranquility that she’d never managed to find anyone else, and his arms were the only place she felt such overwhelming safety. Of course, their time together wasn’t always CALM — it was rarely so, actually. Either they were doing far more… STRENUOUS ACTIVITIES, or she was busy working on whatever mediocre project she could manage as a front for the constant anxiety that plagued her every waking moment as a result of the ( NOT QUITE ) recent termination of her career.
Even after all this time the wound was fresh.
She’d been a PIRATE for long enough now that she wasn’t even sure if MARINE was her end goal. She wasn’t really sure what she wanted anymore besides the TRUTH. Questions were fine till they began to eat her alive, and she had yet to get any closer to an answer. Frankly, it was exhausting, and she could only give so much until she had nothing left. She was stubborn though, and surrender would not be considered until she had truly destroyed herself.
Her only saving grace was, perhaps, Tane, who asked nothing of her, yet gave her everything. Were it not for him, she might’ve already exhausted what little energy and willpower she had left. He’d managed, somehow, to pull her away from her desk the night before and ( ADMITTEDLY ) waking up beside him in cool sheets was a far better alternative to unforgivably cold mahogany and ink stained papers. As rays of light peeked through the window, dancing across closed eyelids in a mildly IRRITATING fashion, brows furrowed and pink lips parted in a silent yawn. She felt his arms around her before anything else, not yet opening her eyes as she settled into his embrace. His voice filled her ears like soft music, words causing a muted warmth to bloom within her chest. A smile soon tugged at her lips while her fingers traced meaningless shapes in his bare skin and she replied.
❝ It is not your BED I am comfortable with. ❞
For a pirate captain, he was almost always laid-back and stuck within his careless nature; yet, with his carelessness came fearlessness, and this was possibly one of his most fascinating features. It always made Tane happy to share his relaxation with the woman he held dear to him, forgetting about everything else in the world. Sometimes, even, she made him forget about his biggest goal. His dreams to become the strongest pirate seemed to fade away into the distance when around her, especially if he so much as looked into her eyes.
Minori brought him peace.
The sheets were cold in the spot that had been previously uninhabited, but he knew that it would soon warm up due to his shift closer to her. A small laugh escaped him at her comment, a special sound full of genuine joy. Her comfort was always relieving. Tane’s lips met the swordswoman’s soft skin along her jawline gently, aiming to give her morning a good start like usual. It wasn’t rare for them to sleep together, in fact, it’d become extremely common for them as time progressed. He always greeted her with a warm and simple “morning, babe,” and some of his charming smiles; it seemed to help them forget about their past.
Yet, even with all of his efforts, no amount of smiles could erase the black eyepatch that remained over his left eye. They could never erase the scar on his back, or the scar on her leg that resembled a bullet wound. These things would always haunt them, no matter how many peaceful and serene mornings they shared.
“Well,” the gunner started, “even if it isn’t the bed, I still think you look hot against my sheets.” He couldn’t help but tease her every chance he got, and more particularly, whenever she was in his bed. There were just too many good comments to make. “Aren’t you glad I took you away from that boring work last night, beautiful?”

The ship gently rocked on the ocean waves, as the crew had decided on the previous night to begin sailing to some other island. Tane never really paid attention to details; all he knew was that the island had some jobs waiting for them. The jobs would surely pay a lot, and that is all he needed to know. He got a nice night of rest, and woke up the following morning in his large bed. Fortunately, he didn’t have to use it alone.
The captain opened his eyes and looked over to meet the form of a sleeping swordswoman, her long hair sprawled out across the pillows. A small smile appeared on his lips, beams of sunlight finding their way inside of the room through a small window. It displayed the vast, calm body of water outside, along with the clear blue sky that contained not a single cloud. It was a beautiful sight, but Tane preferred to observe the beauty that rested beside him.
It was rare to see Minori in a peaceful state, which is why he enjoyed little moments like these. It was embarrassing to admit, which is why he’d never directly tell her about this, but it brought happiness to his mornings every single time. The smile remained as she slowly began to stir, showing signs that she was finally waking up. He moved closer to her, putting an arm around her waist lovingly. “Morning, babe,” Tane whispered, the grin on his face growing wider. “Sleep well? You always seem so comfortable in my bed.”
Stuff isn’t Cheep
@CAPTAINTANE
It was sticky warm that day, the kind of warm that coaxed moisture from the skin and clung to you in the beads of sweat that formed. Shino wiped her forehead with the back of her arm and squinted up at the sky. Above them the bending leaves of the trees blocked the sun from the ground but the warmth managed to seep through the cracks in their cover and fill even the shadows. There was nothing more the archer wanted than to go back to their ship, grab a glass of ice and water, and lay in a cool, empty room; she was miserable.
But she didn’t dare complain. She refused to complain at least she refused to complain first. Beside her trudged her captain, sort of. While she hadn’t been part of the pirate crew for very long, she knew enough of the crew dynamics to see that leadership, at least in the not crucial moments as they hadn’t really run into danger yet, was shared between Minori and…the person beside her, Tane. She still had yet to officially form an opinion of him.
“Alright, here we go.” Shino picked out two pieces of paper she had kept in the small rucksack she carried and handed one to Tane. “The Should-be-Easy-Enough-Capture-the-Lost-Bird-for-Berry Job otherwise known as Finding the Berry Bird Mission is a go~ Apparently, this is what it should look like and supposedly it can’t fly too high or far but it has a hell of a jump.”
If there was anything Tane absolutely despised, it was hot weather. Not just a warm sunny day, no; the miserable, burning, perspiration-filled days under the fiery sun. These are the worst days to go outside, let alone to do a job, but earning money is earning money. The crew needs funds, and robbing other ships isn’t always enough for a sustainable lifestyle as famous pirates. Power can only get you so far, but money gets you everywhere.
These thoughts occupied the gunner’s mind as the two wandered around, searching for some stupid lost bird, but Shino’s mission statement snapped him out of it. Sweat ran down his face as he nodded to her, processing the information that she was feeding to him. It was unusual, still, seeing her as a member of his crew now. She’s the newest addition, and even though Tane respects her for stowing away on their ship for so long, there are still judgments to be made. “This should be easy enough, right? A jumping bird isn’t that serious.”
“What’s so special about this bird, anyway? If it can’t even fly well why is it so important?” He frowned, swinging his gun around in a bored manner. The hot metal burned his fingertips, but he’d felt worse injuries before. He simply continued to play with it, then looked over at the archer curiously. “Are you excited? About being a part of my crew, I mean.”
How would you know how old I am if you don’t even know my name? Or are you just judging based on appearance but to guess at a woman’s age like that would be rude of you.
I ate a devil fruit and gained the ability to know a person’s age on sight. So there, Miss I’m-A-Smart-Ass.
I can’t believe the captain forgot about me! His age must really be catching up to him. Oh dear.
I’m not even that much older than you.
╮ (. ❛ ᴗ ❛.) ╭ eh.
Do I know you?

“Shino said it would look good on you, so wear it.”
Tane stared down at the hideous beautiful hand-knitted sweater being held out to him, slowly taking it and examining it. Would it really look good on him? Well... he didn’t really feel like arguing with his crewmate, so he reluctantly removed his own shirt and replaced it with the sweater. The color is nice at least, right? Yeah.
“How does it look?” The gunner asked, adjusting the sleeves uncomfortably. Reon looked happy (as happy as he could look, at least), and it made this situation a little more bearable, but still very embarrassing. Stitched on the front was a poor, sad, deformed kitten playing with a ball of yarn. Was it supposed to look deformed like that? Aside from that, the sweater was pretty well put together; it was much better than anything Tane could do, that’s for sure.
With a thumbs up, the musician commented with a simple, “I like it.” Did he really? It was hard to tell with his monotone voice, but he seemed satisfied with the idea that Tane actually liked the sweater. Is this what all pirate captains do for their crew? Sacrifice their pride to wear hideous clothing? Suddenly Reon piped up with a suggestion, pointing to the door. “We should show the others.”
Fuck.

“This is it, Shino,” Tane whispered, placing a hand on her shoulder. “You ready?”
To tell the truth, both of them were nervous as hell. While the guitarist was pretending to be confident and totally prepared, his stomach was secretly in knots. Tonight was crucial for their band, Mysterious Snail, because it was the final round of the biggest band competition around. They’d made the finals easily, but their opponents were incredible, and they couldn’t help but be anxious about the outcome of their performances. What if they weren’t good enough?
“I think so,” the singer nodded, gripping her microphone a little too tightly. The sound of audience chants outside only made the atmosphere backstage more tense; the livelier the crowd, the more pressure that was on them to be great. “Do you really think we can win this?” Shino hadn’t meant to display her nerves so openly with a question like that, but it was too late to take her words back.
He hesitated, fingers curling around the neck of his guitar gently, before giving her one of his annoyingly reassuring smirks. “I know you can do it, but I’m not sure if I can keep up with your talent. You might steal the entire show and blow my guitar playing out of the water.”
She smiled softly, playfully hitting him in the arm. “Shut up, you’ll do fine.”
The announcer on stage officially began introducing their band, riling up the crowd immediately. Their nervousness was still present, but they both felt slightly more relaxed as they walked out onto the stage.

“Aw, fuck. This one peed on my shirt,” Tane sighed, frowning at the stain on his shirt. The small retriever in his hand looked up at his face, oblivious to the wrongdoing it had done. She was a cute puppy, so surely he could let it slide juuuust this once. He placed her down on the floor to run around with the other excited pups, quietly whispering, “Try peeing on somebody like Shino next time.”
The sound of high pitched barks echoed throughout the room, and numerous tiny dogs ran in circles around Minori, who was finally starting to warm up to the little guys. With a smile, Tane sat down next to her and picked up a baby husky. It nibbled on his finger as he joked, “I told you they’d like you. They haven’t peed on you once.”
The swordswoman allowed a small reciprocated smile to appear on her lips, watching the other ones tackle each other. “Yes, I will admit, some of them appear to be drawn to me,” she said, and almost on cue a terrier pup jumped onto her lap. Minori seemed somewhat startled, but then cautiously placed a hand on it’s back. “And I do hope it remains that way. If my uniform is ruined, I will be blaming you.”
With a laugh, Tane nodded in acceptance. “That’s fair, babe.” The husky in his hands quickly became tired and instead fell asleep on him, prompting an immediate bond between the two. The little guy trusted him enough already to nap in his arms. “...I think I’ll name this one Hunter. If you let me keep him, that is.”
With a smirk Minori answered, “We’ll see.”
