OKAY because OP asked in the tags may I submit possible options for Alchemy’s merfolk counterparts 👉👈
Pierce: Tiger Shark Galeocerdo cuvier
Nocturnal hunters (like his nocturnal habits), I just looove this pattern for his hypothetical tail. Perhaps notched/injured tail from a fellow shark attack?? A shark just feels right for him in general—fierce when they need to be, silently enchanting, and widely misunderstood
Islington: Northern Kingfish Menticirrhus saxatilis
The colors & pattern of this one are very Islington to me with the greenish-grey and brown, reminds me of his eyes. Not to mention that sharp shape of the first dorsal fin, SO cool and matches his sharp tongue.👌✨ AND it has royalty right there in the name!
Hawkes: Coelacanth Latimeria chalumnae
These were the first to come to mind when the question was posed. Thought to be extinct since the dinosaurs, a coelacanth just happened to be spotted among a fish market in the 30s. A “living fossil,” known for disappearing and reappearing, mysterious origins, etc etc. And it’s BLUE(ish). Very Hawkesian if you ask me
