You’re pacing back and forth down the waiting room hallway as Sam watches.
You don’t know what he’s thinking but he’s probably judging you for the way you’re reacting to all of this. Sure, Bucky is your work partner, but Sam knows you two have a history of bickering and not always getting along. So he’s either wondering why the hell you seem to care so much or judging you for probably having feelings for your partner.
Oh and that’s one more thing you can’t seem to face right now. The fact that you maybe, probably, most definitely have feelings for Bucky.
Seeing Bucky fall to the ground, seeing the life start to seep out of his eyes as he gripped your hand. Hearing the words he had spoken as he slowly lost consciousness. “Don’t leave me,” he had said. After all of that, you felt like you were falling apart. And you knew why. You had feelings for Bucky. You loved him. The thought of him dying made your heart hollow out in a way you didn’t know how to describe. You have never felt that way about anyone before.
After what felt like days, you see a doctor walking in your direction and you wait with bated breath as he stops in front of you and Sam.
You’re not sure you hear anything he says until you hear the words “he’s stable for now,” and your heart hammers a little less violently in your chest.
The doctor informs you and Sam that Bucky is currently stable but will need to stay in the hospital for about a week before he could be discharged. He wasn’t in good shape and they needed to keep an eye on him in case any new complications arose. He wasn’t out of the woods yet but he was alive and that’s all you can hold onto right now.
You and Sam follow the doctor to the room where Bucky lays on the hospital bed. You slowly approach the bed gazing at Bucky’s face. He’s unconscious and hooked to so many wires and tubes you’re afraid to step too close for fear you might accidentally pull something out.
You both spend a little while sitting with Bucky, and finally Sam stands up. “Get better soon Buck,” He says, squeezing Bucky’s hand. He gives Bucky one last brusque glance before turning to you. You see the pain in his eyes. He and Bucky may bicker and banter, but they were good friends at the end of the day. Sam gives you a nod as if to say “I’ll leave you to it,” and he disappears out the door leaving you and Bucky alone.
The room is silent save the rhythmic beeping and dinging of monitors and machines surrounding the room. You take a deep breath and angle your body closer to Bucky’s.
“Hey Buck,” you start, your voice slightly shaky. There’s a million things you want to say but you find it hard to speak any single word.
You reach for Bucky’s hand, gently slipping your fingers over his. You wrap your fingers around his larger, rougher ones. “I don’t know if you can hear me or not, but I-,” you start again. Why was this so hard? He isn’t even awake, you think to yourself.
You take one more deep breath, trying to control the emotion bubbling inside of you. You hold back tears as you scoot your chair closer to Bucky. You take his hand and start once again, “Bucky...I-, I need you to wake up. Because I don’t know what I’ll do if you don’t and it’ll all be your fault if I do something stupid,” you hesitate, “and because… I love you.” You pause for several moments feeling shaky after that confession. “So wake up and get better,” you finally manage without tears awkwardly.
Bucky lays motionless except the steady movement of his chest as he breathes. You close your eyes and lay your head against his chest as you feel tears silently flow down your face. He’s alive. He’s alive. It’s all you can think as you savor the feeling of his body near yours. “Come back to me, Bucky. Because I’m not leaving you.”

Well… you kind of do leave him. Not like literally, but you don’t visit him once during his week at the hospital after you leave the first day.
It’s not that your feelings have changed but rather you don’t know how to deal with them. It’s all too new to you. You’ve never been in love before. So here you were at the gym training, letting out your frustration at this whole situation. you’re venting your emotions by working out instead of actually being there for the man that you were supposed to love. The man you literally confessed your feelings for just last week. Granted, he was unconscious at the time, but still. Now you feel confused and you don’t know whether you should pursue that feeling or neglect it. Who even knows if he feels the same way?
You loved Bucky but you didn’t know how to deal with that. So how on earth were you going to face Bucky at the hospital? Sam had said he woke up the next day after they left and for some reason you freaked out. You made excuses every time Sam questioned you about seeing Bucky. He had been visiting him every day and it made you feel more and more guilty each day that passed that you weren’t.
After working out, you head back home, shower up, and lay back on your couch to stare at the ceiling. Quite the productive way to spend your time. You’re thinking about Bucky and all that’s been going on when you hear a knock at your apartment door. Your eyes fly to the door wondering who the hell that could be? It’s midnight and you don’t normally ever have visitors, especially at this hour. Alarm flares to life in your chest and you swiftly retrieve one of the guns you keep hidden under your couch. It’s probably no one dangerous but for some reason you’re on edge and you don’t like this situation.
You traipse towards the door, your gun tucked behind your back. “Who is it,” you call out, not expecting an answer. “Uuh Y/N, it’s me,” you hear a very familiar voice. Your eyes widen before you fling the door open.
“Bucky?!” You exclaim seeing his towering figure standing before you. His eyes fly to the gun in your other hand and a familiar smirk warms his features.
“You gonna shoot me?” He asks, smirking, a twinkle in his eye.
“Oh my God, Bucky,” you blurt out as you mindlessly step towards him and throw your arms around his neck. You pull him into a tight hug and you feel him hesitate before he wraps his arms around you.
“Oh my God, I’m so sorry,” you say, pushing yourself off of him awkwardly, realizing you have a gun in your hand. Wow, a gun, right after he’s been shot, you mentally scold yourself for being so stupid.
You feel a mixture of relief and shock seeing him standing before you. He looked a bit weary but on all accounts he was as handsome as ever. Even after a weeklong stay in the hospital.
“Hey Y/N,” he says smiling gently. “Can I come in?”
“Ya, of course, please come in,” you’re stumbling over your words.
Guilt washes over you. You haven’t visited him once in the hospital and here he was at your doorstep, coming to you.
He walks inside and his blue eyes are trained on yours as he approaches you, his tall figure towering over yours.
He turns his head away for a moment as if he doesn’t know what he wants to say. He puts his hands in his pockets and turns back to you and looks at you through his eyelashes. “How are you?” he asks.
Your lips part, surprised at his question. “How am I?” you ask slightly incredulously, “I should be asking you the same thing.”
He smirks, walking even closer to you. “I’ve seen better days,” he responds coolly.
You stare up at him, feeling something powerfully intense brewing between your bodies. “I know what you said.” Bucky says after a few moments, his expression turned serious.
You furrow your brows, “what do you mean you know what I said?”
“At the hospital. Sam, uuh, he kind of overheard something you said to me,” He looks at you, his gaze freezing you in place. “Y/N, I didn’t know you felt that way.”
You look up at him completely mortified. Did freaking Sam overhear what you said to Bucky and then tell him? Oh you were mad. So mad, but also so embarrassed. “I-, I just,” you stammer, “I’m sorry Bucky. I’m really sorry.”
Bucky chuckles lightly, taking one more step towards you, diminishing the distance between your bodies. He takes your face in his hands and looks at you so intensely that you feel suddenly paralyzed by his fixed stare. “Y/N, you don’t have to hide from me. Not anymore, not ever.” He draws his face closer to yours. “I love you too. I know you’re scared. I know you want to run. I know because I probably would have too.”
You’re holding back tears now. “Bucky, I didn’t know what I would have done if you didn’t make it. I thought I was going to die,” you choke out.
“I’m here Y/N. I don’t want to ever leave you,” he said with such conviction it had your heart stuttering. He moves his lips so they are just centimeters away from yours.
You want to cry all over again because your heart is squeezing in a way you’ve never experienced and it feels so painful yet so sweet. Like a honey coated crush.
“Y/N, don’t ever leave me,” Bucky whispers, drawing his face towards you. His eyes gaze into yours before flitting down to your lips. The intense stare makes you shiver. He stays close to you for several moments before he tenderly brushes his lips against yours, sending tingles straight down your whole body. He backs his face away again just to admire yours.
Your hands move to the sides of his firm and broad torso as you hold eye contact with him. He then presses his lips to yours, starting very slowly. Your eyes close and you both stay just like that for a moment with your lips pressed against each other. The contact is so delicate but it sends an ache down your spine.
Bucky moves his hands to your torso and your hands move up his chest towards his face. He gently tilts his head and slants his lips over yours, intensifying the fire that's starting to burn in the pit of your stomach. You wrap your arms around his neck trying to pull yourself up to his height to reach him better as you tilt your head in the opposite direction kissing him harder.
Bucky reaches down to your hips and hoists you up wrapping your legs around his midsection. He moves towards the kitchen table and sets you down so you’re both level with each other. He pushes your legs apart so he can press his chest flush with yours. You dig your fingers into Bucky’s short hair as he deftly eases his tongue into your mouth. God the feeling of his mouth against yours, his tongue lapping at yours, it's overwhelming and so intoxicating. You can’t stop, you feel like you’re going to explode. Bucky removes his lips from yours allowing both of you to catch a breath but he swiftly drags his lips across your cheek and then down to your neck.
He sucks and licks at your throat and you can’t help the involuntary moan that escapes your lips. “Bucky,” you whisper, overtaken by the sensual feeling the kisses on your neck elicit. Your hands graze the rough stubble on his face, taking in the pure masculinity of him. Bucky moves his body over yours as he continues his assault on the crook of your neck. “Y/N,” he groans as you grab the lapel of his jacket and pull his lips up to yours.
The kisses are gentle yet demanding, exciting but tender. You have never been kissed with this much passion before and it’s so fucking gratifying.
Finally you both pull away and Bucky looks into your eyes. You both smile at each other like teenagers who just made out behind the football bleachers.
You take your time gazing at Bucky's face. “Thank you,” you remark, smiling at him. His lips are swollen from the kiss and his cheeks look flushed. You can only imagine that you look similar.
“For what?” he asks grinning, moving his hands to your sides.
“For coming to me when I didn’t come to you.”
“I will never stop coming to you, Y/N,” Bucky leans his forehead against yours and closes his eyes, “I’ll never leave.”
