Chapter 17~ Part 1
Inbox's are a writers best friend!:)))
“ Los Angeles is amazing!” Emily stated putting her hands up. “ You would absolutely love it! I was so sad when you couldn’t see me a couple months ago.” Emily said taking a bite of her almost done waffle. Vanessa smiled. “ I know. It was a bummer. Loads of things popped up and-” “ Of course! I know. Much happened, don’t worry.” Emily put her hand on top of Vanessa’s.
“ How are your classes?” Danielle asked. “ Amazing! Textiles class is my favorite. So interesting.” She explained. The table was silent but full of smiled. “ Enough about me- how are you all?” Emily smiled. Danielle placed her tea cup back on the table after a long sip. “ Well! I just have been doing conditioning, just to keep up on these guns!” Danielle laughed holding up her arm and flexing. Everyone contributed a bit of “ooo’s” and “aaaaahh’s.”
“ How about you Eleanor?” Emily asked. Eleanor nodded. “ I’m great! I’m just trying to get through my second to last year of Uni.” Eleanor smiled. Emily motioned to Vanessa.
“ I’m fine as well.” Vanessa lied. She faked a smiled and continued to poke at her food. Thankfully, no one noticed her frown.
Soon, a waiter came and set down a leather envelope. “ Just let me know when you are ready.” He smiled and walked away. Danielle happily reached for it. “ Hey!” Eleanor, Emily, and Vanessa said at the same time. Danielle held the envelope close to her chest. “ No no no. I’m paying. My treat!” Danielle said pulling her black leather bag up from under her seat and fetching out her wallet. She slid her visa in the envelope and set it back down on the table.
“ DanI.” Vanessa started. “ I’m buying you Starbucks today. Just letting you know.” She smiled. Danielle smiled too and nodded. “ I guess that’s fine.”
Once all the girls grabbed all their belongings, they started for the exit.
*******
“ Thank you guys so much. This was love-” “Na ah ah!” Eleanor shook her finger. Vanessa lifted her eyebrow. “ We still have all today filled with marvelous plans!” Eleanor smiled. Danielle looked at her watch. “ Its almost noon. I say we take my car.” She said to Emily and Eleanor who were obviously in on the plan.
“ Wait what?” Vanessa asked. They all exchanged smiles.
“ Lets just say-” Danielle started. “ We are going to re-live our first time in London together.”
Vanessa could feel her heart lift at the sound of the word: London. She placed her hand to her chest with excitement.
“ The train leaves in an hour. We should be going.”
*******
“ ALL PASSENGERS BOARD THE TRAIN TO CENTRAL LONDON. THE DOORS ARE CLOSING IN THREE MINUTES.” The loudspeaker rang. Vanessa crossed her hands over her bag as she waited for the roar of the engine. Danielle and Emily sat across from her in the two seats while Eleanor took the window seat next to Vanessa. They were all quite and anticipating the departure.
“ You know-” Emily started grabbing everyone’s attention. “You two should really not sit next to each other because I literally cannot tell who is Vanessa and who is Eleanor.” Emily joked. Vanessa remembered making those jokes on their summer trip only 6 months ago. To her, it seemed longer ago.
Eleanor gasped and kicked her foot up and playfully kicked the bottom of Emily’s shoe. “ You missed!” Emily teased. “ Do you want me to aim?” Eleanor said back sending Emily into a slouch into her seat. Everyone laughed.
“ But seriously- do you rememeber when we went out to get stuff to make- um- what was it?” Emily asked. Vanessa put her finger to her lip and though. “ My famous French toast!” Vanessa stated. Danielle gasped. “ Ugh! They’re so good!” Danielle commented throwing her head back. Vanessa gave her a appreciative nod.
“ Yes!” Emily continued. “ - And we were in line when those two girls came up!” Vanessa and Emily began to laugh at the memory. “ What!? What happened?” Eleanor asked.
“ Well they were like ‘ Can we get picture’ and I was so confused. So I just said ‘ yeah’ , whatever and took a picture with them. Then they were asking questions like ‘ how is Louis and the boys?’ and calling me perfect. I was so confused.” Vanessa explained. Eleanor held her beanie over her eyes in embarrassment. “ That is when I realized that they thought she was Eleanor!” Emily added.
“ It was so embarrassing when I found out that was what they thought! I felt like a fake!” Vanessa smiled and then it faded. Emily read her face in seconds because she placed her hand on Vanessa’s knee. Danielle noticed and Vanessa knew this would led to an explanation.
“ This-uh- actually happened a lot actually-” Vanessa said. “ Enough to the point where I thought you would hate me for taking picture with your fans. Be your fake.” She finished.
Eleanor let out a small giggle.
“ I never told you this, but I was on my tag when I saw pictures of you in the club.” Eleanor smiled. “ On Tumblr?” Emily asked. Eleanor nodded.
Vanessa could feel the tension. Did Eleanor actually hate her like she had thought? Vanessa couldn’t satnd the thought and wished Eleanor would just say it. How she felt.
“ I was shocked! I was actually surprised at how classy you looked in a club!” Eleanor giggled and everyone did too. “ I could never hate you, Vanessa. You were a positive vibe the whole time I’ve known you.”
Danielle let out an aww and the two girls exchanged a quick hug.
“ Thank you.” Vanessa said. And the engine started the train began to go.
Ahhh I got so excited when I saw that you had finally uploaded those chapters! And they were perfection, as always!
Thank you love! So sorry they were late. If you follow me on twitter you would know that my wifi went out on the day I was supposed to upload! Thank you for the support!

Chapter 16 ~ Part 2
“ Vanessa?”
“ Vanessa?”
Vanessa opened her eyes to brightness and the smell of coffee. A simple smell that Vanessa had grown to love.
“ Vanessa? Why are you out here?”
Vanessa opened her eyes to see Eleanor looking at her with a cup off coffee in her hand. She giggled as she put the cup to her lips.
“ Wha- What?” Vanessa stuttered.
Eleanor playfully rolled her eyes and took another sip of her coffee. “ Weren’t you cold? Why were you out here?” Eleanor asked. Vanessa lifted herself up and looked at her uncovered pajamas.
“ I’m not all that sure.” Vanessa lied. She wasn’t going to tell Eleanor that she had woken up to take a long last look at the flat. She would just sound ridiculous. Eleanor stood up and walked towards the kitchen where the freshly brewed coffee was being made. Like every morning.
“ Coffee love?” Eleanor called. “ Yes please!” Vanessa said. She began her way to the bathroom when she was stopped by a steaming cup of coffee. The purple and green polka dots; Danielle’s cup. “ Take a quick shower and get dressed. I have a little-” Eleanor stopped herself. “ Would it hurt to much to say goodbye surprise?” She muttered. The words stung Vanessa, she nodded. “ A bit.” She cooed. Eleanor nodded as well in agreement and plastered her calming smile. “ Well then- I have a little surprise for you these afternoon-” She checked her fossil watch. “ Specifically 1 o’clock, so two hours, chop chop!” Eleanor smiled.
Vanessa laughed at her orders and scattered to the bathroom.
*******
“ Almost ready?” Eleanor peeked in. Vanessa jumped at the sight of Eleanor’s head popping in and hit her mascara wand on her nose. Eleanor covered her mouth and tried to keep back the laughs. Vanessa couldn’t help but laugh as well. “ Knock!” Vanessa yelled and Eleanor scattered away back into the living room. “ 20 minutes!” She yelled back.
Vanessa wiped the mascara off her nose and re-applied it to her eyelashes, added some blush, and ran her fingers through her wavy hair. She then walked to her room to search fro her outfit.
“Almost ready.” Vanessa called to Eleanor who was standing at the counter texting. Vanessa vanished into her room without Eleanor’s response and walked to her dresser. She pulled out a white Topshop knit sweater, black jeans, and a tank top for underneath. She slipped on the clothing items and walked over to her closet and grabbed her Zara ankle boots.
After she slipped them on she pranced into the living room where her mulberry bag was sitting on one of the bar stools. “ Ready!” Vanessa smiled a bit. Eleanor smiled back brightly and retrieved the keys from the island counter. “ Lets roll!” She joked and dangled the keys. They both walked out the door, through the building, and out to the parking lot where the familiar red cooper was sitting.
Vanessa pulled up her sweater to her chin as the winter breeze touched her. Eleanor walked to the drivers side unlocking the door. “ Uh Eleanor-” Vanessa studdered stopping Eleanor from opening the drivers door. “ Yeah?” She responded. Vanessa looked at the keys in Eleanor’s hand. “ You mind if I drive? Just for- your know-…memories. For old times sake. ” Vanessa finished. Eleanor nodded genuinely and tossed the keys to Vanessa.
“ For old times sake.” Eleanor replied.
*******
“ Take a right here.” Eleanor pointed at Chelsea road that was ahead of them. Vanessa smoothly turned onto the small road where many small shops were being roamed by peacoated and scarfed consumers. Vanessa smiled at the beautiful sight. “ I never would think Manchester would have all these areas.” Vanessa stated shifting her eyes from store to road. They had been in the car an hour and Vanessa had been begging to stop for something to eat most of the ride. Eleanor would shake her quaint head a reply with a subtle “just wait.”
“ Just-uh-park here.” Eleanor pointed again. Vanessa followed the order and parallel parked into the open space. Once Vanessa pulled the keys out of the ignition Eleanor began to get out. “ Where are we go-” “ Just follow me.” Eleanor replied shutting the car door. Vanessa sighed and got out as well.
The weather was even more cold in this part of town. Vanessa looked around at the beach hut looking stores that were surrounded by dark grey clouds filled with rain. Vanessa found the paradox depressing.
“ We just need to walk a bit.” Eleanor said to Vanessa as she met her on the sidewalk. “ UGH.” Vanessa moaned. Eleanor shook her head. “ Patience, my child.” Eleanor replied making Vanessa roll her eyes.
They began to walk the cement pavement and pass by consumers all out on an odd cloudy afternoon. Vanessa swore she could feel a raindrop hit her nose- also the rumbling of her stomach.
Once they had walked for five minutes that finally reached a little restaurant that sat on the bay overlooking the body of water Vanessa couldn’t recognize.
“ Here we are.” Eleanor said peeping her eyes from under the hem of her Topshop knit beanie. The restaurant was very modern and had white painted windows that wrapped around the restaurant. Vanessa could peer in to see all the laughing and conversations taking placed.
The two walked up the wheel chair ramp and Eleanor took off her beanie and rustled her hair. “ This is cute.” Vanessa commented. Eleanor nodded and opened the door.
The two walked into the restaurant which had brick flooring which echoed the tune of Brown Eyed Girl being played. “ Reservations for Eleanor.” Eleanor smiled politely. Something Vanessa always looked up to for Eleanor. Her approachable presence.
The lady smile and took to menu’s. “ Right this way.” She said and turned her back swiftly, showing newly pressed white blouse. Eleanor and Vanessa followed. The lady led them to a back door that opened to the porch that over hanged over the water. The tablecloths flowed with the light breeze and heater lamps where filled with a flame giving off warmth.
There were only a couple of people occupying the seats having their breakfast and tea. As Vanessa walked by them she could smell the eggs and bacon.
Vanessa took her focus off the food and looked straight forward. She then saw a bundle of curly hair that she could recognize anywhere.
“ Danielle?” Vanessa said loudly enough for the head of hair to turn around.
There, Danielle sat with a smile spreading cheek to cheek. “ Surprise!” She smiled getting up. Vanessa quickly walked past Eleanor and the hostess arms open to embrace a long awaited hug. “ How are you here!? I thought work would have you busy!” Vanessa smiled still surprised with Danielle being present. Vanessa knew she had seen Danielle not long ago, but Danielle being there made the whole “ going back to Australia” thing vanish from her mind. Like things were back to normal.
“ Well I-” Danielle stopped herself. Vanessa knew what she was going to say. She saw the brightness and joy dull in Danielle’s eyes as she stood before Vanessa. “ - You heard I was leaving. Right?” Vanessa pursed her lips to the side. Danielle did the same and nodded. “ Yeah.” She muttered. “ I’m so sorry.” Danielle said embracing Vanessa with another hug. A tighter hug.
“ But-” Danielle pulled away and held Vanessa by her arms. “ - today is not about that. Today is about us four together! Like old times!” Danielle’s spark returned. Vanessa crinkled her eyebrow. “ Four?” She asked.
With that Danielle stared at something behind Vanessa and signaled to it with her head. Vanessa turned around to see the beautiful blond who’s hair has grown even longer since Vanessa last saw her. Emily.
“ EMILY!” Vanessa’s eyes grew large and whole at the sight of her best friend. Vanessa was abot to burst into tears.
Emily laughed as she began to tear up. Vanessa ran full speed into Emily’s arms and they stood together in embrace.
“ I can’t believe you are here.” Vanessa said into Emily’s shoulder leaving tears on her sweater. Vanessa could hear her sniffing back the tears. “ I’ve missed you so much.” Emily cried. They both released but held each other’s hands. “ This is so unreal! How did you get out of school to be here!” Vanessa asked. Emily had a tear rolling down her face and she quickly wiped it off. She cleared her throat. “ Let’s sit and I’ll tell you.” Emily smiled.
The two walked to the table where Eleanor and Danielle were smiling at the two re-united friends and sat.
Chapter 16 ~ Part 1
Harry grabbed Vanessa’s hand as she reached for the door handle of her bedroom. She turned around to see his swollen face. “ Are you alright?” He asked. Vanessa shook her head. “ No.” And opened the door.
Still there, Eleanor and the boys sat in their places. Vanessa walked out of the room with Harry behind her, both red from crying. Everyone shifted in their seats towards them.
“ I called my mum-” Vanessa started. She choked on air as she began to speak. “ I have until Sunday to get my stuff together and be on the next plane on Monday morning.” Vanessa said calmly trying to keep her voice steady. She had rehearsed the lines in her head many times in the room before she said them. They tasted like vinegar.
She watched as all the boys sighed and Eleanor burst into tears. She fell onto Louis lap and he began to stroke the back of her head. Vanessa let go of Harry and ran over to Eleanor’s side.
“ Eleanor I-” She began to cry again.
“ I am so sorry I let you down. I-” Eleanor raised her head and shook it. “ You can’t leave. I need you so much.” She sobbed. It was funny how Eleanor had said that. Not long was it when Vanessa walked into Eleanor’s room to see the pictures of all her friends and not Vanessa. The words stung her because there was a part of Vanessa that knew that wasn’t true. Eleanor didn’t need her, she needed Eleanor.
With that Eleanor flung her arms around Vanessa and sobbed into her shirt. “ You-” She sniffed. “ Cant leave.” Eleanor cried. Louis sat on the couch with his fist held up to his mouth.
Vanessa held Eleanor as she sobbed into Vanessa’s shirt. Never had she seen Eleanor like this. “ What about Uni?” Zayn asked. Vanessa nodded. “ I have to go to the administration office tomorrow and get my transcripts. I will have to go to the community college there until I can get enough money to go the Uni there.” Vanessa explained. The words tasted sour as they spilled out of her mouth.
Seconds of silence seemed to drag on for hours. Vanessa sniffed back her tears and looked around the room. She faked a yawn. “ I’m getting tired-” She began as she picked herself off the floor and started to walk past the boys and Eleanor. “ I’m going to head to bed.” She mumbled toward the ground. As she approached Harry she left a soft hand on his shoulder as she walked by. She felt him look at her but she refused the eye contact.
“ Goodnight.” Niall cooed as Vanessa opened the door and closed it.
*******
If anything Vanessa wasn’t tired. Her mind raced with thought of what it would be like to go back home. If her friends had heard of her and Harry. She imagined them approaching her with questions upon questions about the boy she was soon to lose. Nothing could compare to the pain she felt just from the small thought.
She imagined her mother welcoming her home with open arms but a linger of disappointment from the fact that Vanessa could survive out in the world alone. She imagined the community college and how it cold not compare to the beautiful Manchester of university. How hard she had worked in high school to get to this point.
Vanessa tossed and turned with the dreadful thoughts. Soon her eyes opened to the dark room and leaned over to check the time on her phone.
2:30 a.m.
She had been at it for too long.
Vanessa threw off her covers and padded across the floor to her door. Hopefully, no one would be out there. Vanessa opened the door slowly and slid herself through the small opening.
The refrigerator roared its familiar sound as she passed the kitchen to the living room where she had left it sad and full of hopeless friends. She shook off the memory.
Vanessa slowly sunk herself into the couch and grabbed the remote. Her hands trembled over the power button but she set it back down. This was probably the last time she would sit on this couch. The last time she could wake up whenever she pleased to and watch cartoons late at night. She let her hands roam over th couch and remembered all the times she and Eleanor had gotten lazy and ordered take out. All the episodes of the Inbetweeners and X-factor they would watch, ever lazy plop on the couch after class, every laugh they shared was on in this small flat.
Vanessa turned to the kitchen. All the morning omelets and coffee they would make when Danielle visited. And the cupboard of frosted flakes and fruit loops they would all share.
Seven months. Seven months of living in this flat. And five days. Five days to pack.
Chapter 15 ~ Part 2
“ Guys. My mum is calling- meet you inside?” Vanessa said. The group nodded and made their way inside.
Vanessa slid the arrow on her Iphone and quickly held it up to her ear. “ Mum?” She said regretting it. She should have answered with “hello”. She sounded too concerned.
“ Love? How are you? Are you okay?” She practically yelled.
“ I’m fine mum! We just left the hospital and we are now getting some breakfast.”
“ Okay- I’m- I’m worried. Are you going to be able to work your new job?” She asked.
Vanessa’s happy moment of breakfast with the boys disappeared as she thought of way to address the incident that happened. Vanessa juggled the memory in her head and searched for the words to say. How could be telling your mum that you let go of the one thing that would hold the bond between London and her mum’s trust.
“ Uh-” was the only thing that left her mouth.
“ Vanessa? Are you still there?” Her mum rang.
“ Um- yeah yeah. Of- OF COURSE! I will be able to-” She giggled a little to give off the impression that she had it all under control. “ work at my new job! Yeaah.” She exclaimed kicking her feet back and fourth.
“ Alright. Well just let me know if you would like me to send you a care package or anything.”
“ Thanks mum.”
With that Vanessa hung up and slid her phone back into her back pocket. She put her hand to her head and hated herself for what she had just done.
She heard the front doors of the restaurant open and steps approaching her. “ Hey we are sittin-” Harry’s voice said. Vanessa kept her hand on her forehead as he spoke. He stepped closer. “ Are you alright?” He asked. Vanessa sighed.
Vanessa lifted he head and looked into Harry‘s shocking green and blue eyes. “ I’ve got to get my job back.” She stated.
*******
Vanessa, Niall, Harry, Zayn, and Eleanor sat in the car that was parked across the street from Cafémoto. All of them stared at the café in agony and watched people enter and leave the store. Harry sat close to Vanessa as he peered out the window and his chest was on Vanessa’s shoulder. Niall’s head was rested against the back of the driver’s seat as he watched as well.
Niall’s door opened and there stood Louis with Liam walking up behind him. They came in the separate car and had just found parking. “ We could only find parking down the street.” Liam explained and then looked to Niall. “ Scootch ya boot!” Liam said and Niall slid towards Harry making Harry push on Vanessa even more. Louis walked around and took the passenger seat shared with Eleanor. “ You alright?” Harry asked referring to Vanessa’s pain. Vanessa nodded and went back to staring at the haunting building. Everyone seemed to rather quite as they looked at the building.
“ So what’s the plan?” Zayn asked. Eleanor turned so she could see Vanessa and Vanessa stared at her back. “ I could go in there. Maybe persuade her?” Harry said. Vanessa shook her head. “ No. I should go in alone. She would only get madder if she saw that I used you to get my job back.” Vanessa stated. Harry nodded.
“ Vanessa,” Niall said. “ I’m not sure that is very affective. She already hates your guts.” He said biting his thumb. Vanessa sighed and watched as her breath made the window fog. “ Well- my guts are already sore and damaged- what else have I got to lose?” She said. She knew the answer to that question- she coul dlose this life. The life that was held in the car all crowded together- for her. Vanessa opened the door and began to step out. “ You need-” Harry began but Vanessa shook her head.
She walked across the street to the café and kept her hand on her stomach.
She looked at the doors and then slowly pushed them open revealing the café she had only worked at for two days.
Then she saw her. Penny. Looking as agitated as ever with her arms crossed across her chest as she talked to Hilary. Vanessa made her way up to the counter and saw Penny’s eyes shift over to her. Like a fire, her eyes burned a hole in Vanessa’s gut.
Chapter 15 ~ Part 2
“ Hi.” Vanessa started sounding awkward. Penny scoffed and Hilary quickly walked away into the back. “ What do you want here?” Penny asked, her arm’s still crossed.
Vanessa gulped and then looked into Penny’s eyes. “ I just want-” She sighed. “ Can I talk to you outside?” Vanessa asked. Penny rolled her eyes as usual and began to walk over to the door which soon opened to Penny who was walking directly outside.
Vanessa followed slowly.
Once they were outside Penny placed herself to the side of the sidewalk in front of the outdoor seating area. “ So?” She asked . Vanessa couldn’t believe she was saying this. “ So- I’m sorry. I really shouldn’t have been so stubborn and I feel horrible for what I had done. I-” Vanessa held back. “ I really believe you are a great boss and I think what I did was disrespectful and out of no where.” Vanessa stated. She wiped her sweating palms on her pants.
Vanessa waited. Waited for Penny to drop her guard and let Vanessa know she was sorry too. Make a friendship, become one with Penny.
“ You know how much you humiliated me?” Penny said roughly. Vanessa’s hoped crushed as she repeated the words in her head. “ Penny I-” Vanessa began. “ No! Do you seriously think you have a brain? Are you serious? You think you can come back here and apologize and everything will be better? You just want your job back because your lazy and disgusting ass can’t get another one.” Penny spitted.
Vanessa stood in awe. She felt her cheek redden with anger.
“ You are just jealous.” Vanessa mumbled. With that it was all slow motion.
“ You did not just-” And Penny threw her arm back with her fist clenched. She prepared her swing as Vanessa closed her eyes shut preparing for the extra pain.
Penny, about to hit Vanessa was stopped.
“ Don’t’ you dare.” Vanessa heard a angry voice. She opened her eyes to see Harry holding Penny’s wrist next to her head. Vanessa then looked behind Penny to see all of the boys and Eleanor sitting at the table, listening to the conversation.
Penny was in awe at the sight of Harry holding her wrist. He quickly let go and walk in front of Vanessa. Vanessa hid behind Harry.
“ Are you seriously going to punch her? You call that professional?” Harry semi-yelled. “ You have go to be out of your god damn mind to think that a girl as sweet as her would work for a shit ass boss like you.” He commented. “ I-I wasn’t-” Penny began but was quickly cut off. “ You ought to be ashamed of yourself. You sicken me.” Harry yelled . He then turned to Vanessa who was still hiding a bit. “ You can’t work here.” He whispered. “ Harry I-” Vanessa began. She had no choice. It was either this or home. No in between.
*******
Vanessa opened the door to her and Eleanor’s flat. Everyone stood behind her as the door opened and all the boys and the two girls filtered into the room. Vanessa was the first to sit on the couch. She didn’t even kick her shoes off like she usually did or even take off her purse. She placed her hands on her forehead and let her hair fall over her arms.
She felt the couch moving as some people sat down. “ Vanessa?” She heard Harry’s voice call. The sound of his voice cracked Vanessa and made a tear roll down her face. She wiped it off before he could see it. It was silent. “ So that’s it.” Vanessa muttered. She lifted her head from the cave of hair and felt the air brush on her skin. She now knew he could see the dampness of her face.
“ I’m leaving! I only have a week or so! I can’t get a job that quickly!” Vanessa silently shouted. She looked over at Niall, Zayn and Liam hoping for a simple “ Oh sure you can” or “ You’re just being silly” but they knew it too: it was impossible.
Vanessa looked over to Eleanor who was leaning on the side of the couch with her hand through her hair. There was no hope from her. Louis was the same as he sat on the ottoman, and Harry’s eyes, which were usually filled with undesirable faith and compassion were emotionless and worried.
Vanessa felt two more tear roll down her face. She sniffed and nodded. “ Alright.” She said and got up and walked to her room.
*******
Vanessa dialed the familiar number and listened to it ring. She was sitting on her bed facing her bed side table when she heard someone slam the door and quickly approach her. The phone was still ringing as someone took the phone out of her hand. Vanessa turned around to see Harry. Holding back sniffs and watching his moist face become more wet with the tears that were streaming down his face.
“ This can’t be it.” He stuttered. His voice cracked with every word.
Vanessa’s heart dropped at the sight of the curly haired boy drowned in tears. His hair stuck to his face and his lips were pink and chapped.
“ Harry I-” “ No. You ca- can’t. Please. There has to be another way.” Harry sat down next to Vanessa and grabbed her hand. Vanessa watched as his pleading eyes and quivering lip stared at her and she began to choke. The tear began to flow faster than ever. “ There is no other way Harry. I don’t have the money-” “ I’ll pay.” “ No! You can’t!” “ I can!”
“ NO!” Vanessa shouted. Like a sad puppy, Harry slouched knowing his offer was no good.
“ My mom and I would not be able to handle the guilt. You know that.” Vanessa cooed.
Harry sniffed and bent his head toward the ground. Vanessa watched as his tears fell onto the duvet when he squeezed his eyes. She lifted her hand to his face and lifted it up. She began to slowly pick off the pieces of hair that were stuck to his face a he longingly started at her. Her eyes met his and everything was slow.
His hand lifted to her cheek as he used his thumb to wipe away the tear. “ If you leave, there is one more thing for me to do.” Harry mumbled. And with that he leaned in and pressed his lips against Vanessa’s. Vanessa’s eyes shuttered closed and the two of them began to kiss.
Vanessa tried to savor the moment, for this was her last taste of this life.
Chapter 15 ~ Part 1
“ Alright-hey put that down!” The doctor yelled at Niall who was using the ear scope to look up Zayn’s nose.
The doctor snatched it from Niall’s hands and placed it back where it was. “ I’m going to have to disinfect that!” He stated. Niall and Zayn giggled. The doctor held out a white bag to Vanessa who was having a chat with Harry on her bed.
“ Here are some of your medications. You will need to take three of the small bottle everyday after each meal for a week for pain. The bigger bottle: you will be taking one a day for depression.” He smiled.
Vanessa knitted her eyebrows. “ Depression? I don’t have depression.” Vanessa stated. The whole room rang quite as they listened to what was going on.
“ Well-” The doctor sat down. “ It’s obvious that those bruises on your stomach were caused by self harm.” Vanessa knew where he was going with this. Even though she knew she had done this to herself, she didn’t want to admit it. “ So these anti-depressants will help!” He smiled leaning over and tapping the bag. Vanessa felt annoyed.
“ Um- Oh- Alright.” She stumbled. She began to rummage through the bag looking at the weird colored bottles.
“ So that’s it! You should be okay to leave. Just take it easy and try not to go to work…if you are working that is.” Rub it in why don’t you?
The doctor left the room.
“ So we can leave?” Liam asked. Louis nodded. “ You need help up babe?” Harry asked nicely. Vanessa nodded and Harry began to help Vanessa up by placing his arm unher her shoulder. Eleanor was collecting her and Vanessa’s things in the corner and folding the blankets.
“ Here you go. You can change in the bathroom in here.” ELeanor smiled holding out a clean outfit for Vanessa that was clearly all Eleanor’s clothes. Vanessa turned to see a bathroom off to the side of her room and she turned back to Eleanor.
“ You didn’t have to do this all-” Vanessa said but Eleanor stopped her. “ I wanted to. Now please run a comb through your crazy hair and we can all go out to breakfast.” Eleanor smiled handing the clothes and Vanessa took them. “ Crazy hair? I wouldn’t be talking if I were you.” Vanessa joked leaving Eleanor scoffing.
“ She’s right babe.” Louis joked and Vanessa could hear Eleanor hit him as she walked to the bathroom.
*******
Vanessa had on Eleanor’s Topshop sweater, Zara leggings, Zara beanie, and Vanessa’s own Urban Outfitters boots as she sat in the back of Zayn’s Volvo with Harry and Niall. Eleanor and Louis had taken the cooper and they followed close behind.
“ I haven’t had IHOP in ages. This is such a treat.” Liam said turning around to face the bag seat. “ Yeah buddy!” Niall said and he nodded. Vanessa could feel Harry rolling his eyes at Niall’s trademark.
“ So Vanessa, are you sure your alright to go out? We just picked you straight fresh out of the hospital.” Liam asked concerned. Vanessa smiled at his puppy dog face. She could tell why Danielle was so fond of him. “ No. I am fine, really. I really am looking forward to some hot chocolate and strawberry pancakes.” Vanessa smiled. Zayn drove over a bump which made the car jump.
“ Ugh.” Vanessa moaned as her stomach stung to the sudden movement. Harry immediately placed a hand on her stomach and another arm went around her back. “ Are you okay?” He asked concerned rubbing her back with his palm. “ Ye-Yeah.” Vanessa moaned. “ Sorry Vanessa. I’ll be more careful on those bumps.” Zayn stated, his face as worried as the rest of the boys in the car.
*******
“ You go it?” Harry asked as his hand was still placed on Vanessa’s back. The rest of the lads had gotten out and met Eleanor and Louis on the sidewalk. “ Yeah. I’m good.” Vanessa said finally standing up straight from getting out of the car. She felt like an old lady and couldn’t help but not want Harry to watch her every move. It made her queezy but she knew that he was looking out for her.
“ Was the ride okay?” Eleanor asked walking up with Louis at her side. “ Perfect.” Vanessa smiled. They all then began to walk to the front entrance.
Just as they reached the doors, Vanessa felt her purse vibrate. She grabbed her Iphone from its pocket and pulled it out.
Mum calling.

Chapter 14 ~ Part 2
Vanessa’s POV
Beep. Beep….Beep. Beep…..
Vanessa felt herself shift a bit. Her bed was stiff. Or was it the couch? She shifted once more to find some comfort on the sea of sheets that seemed to be really stiff.
“ She’s getting up. She’s getting up.” Vanessa heard a familiar voice.
Vanessa then realized her eyes were closed and began to open them.
A chair. A chair is all she-oh-a big machine that had squiggly lines that went up and down-up and down. Her eyes adjusted to the bright sunlight that was hitting her face and she turned away from it. Now she saw a chair and a girl sitting down with messy hair, bags under her eyes, and a blanket that covered her legs and feet.
“ Vanessa. Vanessa.” She cooed. She held her hand to Vanessa’s arm as Vanessa’s vision started to become much more clearer. It was Eleanor. She had her hair tied in a bun that had little pieces of hair falling onto the sides of her face. Vanessa had never seen her in such a mess but she still looked beautiful.
Vanessa grew a smile and looked at Eleanor. “ Hi.” She smiled. She then turned herself upwards on her back and looked around. White, sanitary, the smell of rubbing alcohol- she was in the hospital.
“ Wha-What’s going on?” Vanessa breathed. “ Why am I here?” She asked a bit panicked. She could hear the pace of the beeping increase a tad.
“ Please-” Eleanor said placing her hand on Vanessa’s leg. “ Calm down. You are fine.” Eleanor cooed making her voice sound like she was talking to a infant. Vanessa always hated when she did that, but it was true sign that she should calm down.
Soon a man in a very white and freshly irons cloak came in. His blond hair was slicked back and his blue eyes caught Vanessa’s attention as he walked in. He looked about the age of 35 or so and Vanessa could see his daughter’s school picture hanging on his name badge which she couldn’t clearly read.
“ Hello Vanessa. I‘m doctor Richards.” He smiled. Vanessa smiled back a bit weak.
He stood at the end of her bed with his hands crossed in front of him. “ Are you feeling okay?” He asked. Vanessa nodded. “ Yeah. I’m-well-” She paused and stuttered on her words. “ Why am I here actually?” She asked.
He stepped over to his computer and typed something in. Soon, he turned the screen. It showed a sort of x-ray of a rib cage.
“ You see here.” He said pointing with his pen to a certain spot on the picture. Vanessa nodded. “ These are your ribs and here-” He tapped his pen. “ Is where you have two broken ribs.” He said. Vanessa could hear the beeps go even faster.
“ No no no.” He said fastly walking over. “ Calm down. They are fixed. You have just some tissue and muscle that have been bruised near your stomach and chest that will take some time for healing.” He said placing a gentle hand on Vanessa’s stomach.
“ Can you remember how this happened?” He asked. Vanessa bit her lip as she thought. She remembered going to work that day and-
It all came back to her. The newspaper article, yelling at Penny, quitting her job. Vanessa felt the pain return to her stomach as she remember that she no longer had a job. She pursed her lips together at the thought. After that, she couldn’t remember how she had got the bruises or the broken ribs. All she remember was coming home and falling asleep… hating herself.
“ I came home and found her on the couch passed out.” Eleanor explained. “She had her hand clenched over her stomach and when I removed it all I could see were bruises.”
Vanessa looked down at her stomach which was covered by the blanket.
“ What day is it doctor?” Vanessa asked. “ Thursday the 6th.” He answered. “ Ive been here for 2 days!” Vanessa asked concerned. “ She looked over at Eleanor who was nodding. “ I can’t I have to go, I have to find a new job! I will be sent back to Australi-” Vanessa then gasped as she remembered. “ My mum- does my mum know?” Vanessa asked. Eleanor nodded. “ I called her as soon as you were taken to the hospital. She will want to talk to you.” She answered.
Vanessa could imagine her mum counting down the days until she came home and finding this mishap a huge reason for her to return. “ No.” Vanessa said as she began to pull back her covers. “ I’ve got to go. I am wasting time here.” She said. The doctor held her by her shoulders and made her stop. “ No. No. You need to stay here for at least a couple more hours so we can get you a prescription and some other things. You need to lay down.” He ordered.
Vanessa began to scoot back into her bed calmly as the doctor instructed. She couldn’t help but notice the tight bandages around herself. Vanessa looked down at her torso which was wrapped in bandages across her chest and stomach. She looked at it and back at the doctor.
“ You looked at my boobs while putting on bandages!” She yelled in shock. She could hear Eleanor laughing in the corner while the doctor sat speechless.
“ Should I just get her guests?” The doctor asked Eleanor. She nodded.
He then left the room leaving her and Eleanor who was still laughing.
“ Guests?” Vanessa asked putting her blanket back over her legs. Eleanor smiled and nodded. “ Just wait.” She hinted.
As if on cue a burst of balloons came barging into the room along with a lot of boyish banter. She could recognize those voices everywhere.
Behind the fifteen or so massive balloons came Niall, Louis, Liam, Zayn, and of course: Harry. Vanessa put her hand over her mouth as she watched them walk in. Harry first walked over at a fast pace and stood at the side of Vanessa’ s bed.
“ Are you alright? How are you feeling?” He asked quickly. Vanessa reached for his hand and held it to her chest. “ I’m fine. Really.” She smiled. “ We brought you Macdonalds!” Niall smiled holding up a bag as a smile spread across his cheeky face.
“ We new this hospital food wouldn’t cut it.” Liam commented grabbing the bag from Niall and place it near Vanessa. “ Thank you guys.” Vanessa said with a large smile.
“ Aren’t you guys supposed to be in London?” Vanessa asked. “ Ireland actually.” Zayn commented. “ We heard you were in the hospital and we had to come.” He finished taking a seat on the rolling stool.
“ Our policy once you become part of the 1D Girlfriend club.” Louis smirked at Harry. Harry then grabbed a fry from the Macdonalds bag and threw it across the room hitting Louis on the arm. Everyone laughed.
Chapter 14 ~ Part 1
Vanessa had 5 blocks in the cold air. Her face was soft and cool. Her cheeks and nosed burned from the air scraping past her face, while the air also helped hide the tears that streamed continuously down her cheeks.
She held her coat close to her freezing neck as she walked up to the park way of her flat building. She looked around the parking lot to see no sign of Eleanor’s red cooper and suddenly remembered she had left for class after Vanessa had gone to work. Work. The one she no longer had. The pain filled her stomach and the tear cycle began again.
The lift seemed to take years to reach her level. With each level Vanessa counted all the things that would happen after this event. 1: she would have to buy her plane ticket back to Australia. 2: Two more weeks she had left to find a stable job and earn her money… that would not happen. 3: To the goodbyes she would have to say. 4: No more sharing a flat with Eleanor and all the wonderful things that came along with that. And 5: The walking through of the airport doors leaving the boys, Eleanor, Danielle, London, and her world behind.
The lift opened to the familiar hallway and Vanessa carried herself to her door and slowly unlocking it. Once the door opened, it revealed a dark living room for the drapes had been drawn before Eleanor had left and the only glow coming from behind them.
Vanessa threw off her shoes and planted her jacket on the floor making her way over to the couch. As soon as she dropped herself onto the couch the tears started up again. This time, painful. Her voice cracked as she screamed out sorrows and moans echoing off the walls of her soon-to-be moved out flat.
Vanessa started to clench her jaw as she regretted quitting her job. The emotions has built up in a way that she couldn’t even remember what had even happened. She just knew that her job was her one ticket to stay in London and she had let it go…to emotion. She punched herself in the belly trying to make herself pay for the damage she had done to her life. She repeated this until she began to see black and everything was a blur.
Eleanor’s POV
Eleanor had pulled up at the flat at around 13:30. She turned the key and the ignition turned off along with the song Call Me Maybe which Eleanor had been addicted to for the past week. She grabbed her bag from the passenger seat and the two grocery bags that were filled with the usual. Eggs, Milk, Vanessa’s favorite cereal and some more items she picked up at Tesco after Uni.
She hauled the groceries to the door of her flat and opened it to a dark living room. She knew she had left it that way when she had taken a nap before class. She set down the groceries and made her way to the light switch and quickly switch it on.
“ AH!” She screamed to the sight of Vanessa laying on the couch. Asleep. Eleanor took her phone from her pocket and looked at the time. 13:36. She knew Vanessa still had 3 hours of work left.
Eleanor kicked her Topshop booties off and padded her way over to Vanessa.
There she laid; still in her work clothes. Her shirt had been pulled up to show her mid-drift which Vanessa was covering with a clenched fist. Eleanor lifted her eyebrows, confused, and reached her hand until it touch Vanessa’s and pulled it away showing her stomach.
Eleanor gasped at the sight. Vanessa’s stomach, on full display, was blue and purple with bruises. Eleanor brought her hand to Vanessa’s shoulder and began to shake her.
“ Vanessa. VANESSA!! Wake up! Wake up!” She yelled.
Vanessa made no budge. Her eyes remained closed and still as she laid on the couch, the bruises still showing.
“ VANESSA!!!” Eleanor’s voice cracked as she screamed still shaking her. She put her ear to Vanessa’s chest. Thankfully, there was still a clear heartbeat. Eleanor began to feel hot tears run down her cheek and she got up and dialed emergency on her phone.

Chapter 13 ~ Part 2
Vanessa barely paid attention in class. She wrote down the notes but nothing sunk into her head. Fortunately, Delaney wasn’t there. Delaney always knew when Vanessa was out of it or not herself and today was one of those days. Vanessa wasn’t exactly “ sad” , it was more of a realization that hit her in her stomach and then spread to the rest of her body making her weak.
Danielle had left this world so easily and so fast and Vanessa couldn’t stand seeing her in that place. She has to work hard and she planned on doing so when she left the class in five minutes for her job.
“ - and that is why the human interaction between men and woman are different and at the same time similar.” The professor finished. “ Any questions?” He asked. The class was silent and no one raised their hands. He turned off the projecter as he waited for hands but none rose.
“ The that completes our lesson today, thank you.” He smiled and the rummaging of bags began as students packed up.

Vanessa quickly got dressed back at home and Eleanor dropped her off at Café Moto for her third day of work. “ Have fun!” Eleanor smiled. Vanessa smiled back and she drove off.
“ Hi Vanessa!” Hilary smiled and waved. Vanessa did the same as she walked through the café and to the back door. “ Ouch!” Vanessa heard as it hit something. She walked in and closed it quickly to see Penny bent down behind the door.
“ Penny I am so-” “ Watch it next time princess.” Penny scoffed and walked off. Vanessa stood in shock for a second. “ Princess?” Vanessa asked with a stern attitude. Penny rolled her eyes and began to walk away. Vanessa knew this kind of behavior wasn’t going to slide. Even if she was her boss.Vanessa took a deep breath and followed penny towards the register.
“ Penny. I know you are holding something against me. So maybe we should talk about it. Get it off our backs.” Vanessa said trying to create a smile. Inside she felt like a volcano about to erupt but she kept her sanity.
Penny didn’t budge. She kept messing with the money in the register and Vanessa gave up. She began to walk towards the back where Hilary was standing with a box.
“ Vanessa- mind giving me a hand and putting these new newspapers on the stand over there?” She smiled. Vanessa smiled back and nodded. “ Sure.” She said and grabbed the heavy load off of Hilary. “ Thanks.” She smiled and went off into the back to do more work.
Vanessa carried the box over to the stand where the old newspapers were. She looked at the cover of the new newspapers and began to take them out onto a separate pile on the floor. She then began to toss the old newspapers into the box where she would recycle them. Vanessa grabbed the old stack and threw them into the box. She looked at them and then took a second look to see her and Harry still on the cover. The cover that she looked at the day she has her interview.
She lifted the paper closer to her face and looked at the huge bold print that held her whole name on it and then looked back at penny who seemed to be mumbling to herself over the register. Vanessa’s volcano began to explode as she remembered Hilary’s clear words:
“Penny is a diehard fan as well.” “ She is IN LOVE with Harry.”
Vanessa grabbed one of the newspapers and stormed over to the counter where Penny still stood and slammed the paper onto the counter.
“ Is this why!?” Vanessa slightly yelled. Penny looked up at Vanessa in an annoying confusion and Vanessa tapped on the paper. Penny looked down at it and rolled her eyes once again.
“ Are you just ruining my job here and purposefully trying to be mean to me? All because of this?” Vanessa asked raising her voice a little louder.
“ Oh come on. I’m not even a One Direction fan!” Penny stated. Hilary stopped in her tracks as she over heard Penny’s comment. “ That’s not what you told me.” Hilary stuttered. Penny’s eyes went wide as she turned to Hilary giving her a silent “ Shut up.”
“ Penny, please don’t judge me over a small pic-” “ It’s not just the damn picture. You are dating FUCKING HARRY STYLES.” Penny’s voice bounced off the walls of the café and every guest had turned around to see the source.
“ Penny I-” “ You get Harry, you get to live with Eleanor, you are friends with the boys, blah blah blah! You are living my dream and all I can fucking do is sit here and watch you strut around the café mocking me for what I don’t have.”
“ So you tried to ruin me?”
“ Yes.”
The café was silent and only the sound of the jazz soundtrack rang in Vanessa’s ears.
“ This isn’t worth it.” Vanessa said beginning to take off her apron. Her emotion was filling her up and all she wanted to do was slap Penny one.
“ What are you doing?” Hilary asked wide eyed and concerned.
Vanessa continually shook her head. “ I cannot do this job if your only reason for hiring me is to ruin my life.” Vanessa said calmly. She slapped the apron on the counter in front of Penny who was speechless and began to walk through the café to the door.
The emotion began to be swept away as she walked towards the door, revealing some knowledge that she had just quit the job that could have saved her form walking through those airport doors.
Chapter 13 ~ Part 1
Eleanor parked the car on the side of the brick road and pulled the emergency brake. Vanessa could not stop staring outside of her window. The shopping strip seemed to be in a small ally. Every window was decorated with fall colors and beautiful items that Vanessa was dying to buy and the sky of the shopping strip was filled with twinkling lights making the brick road illuminate.
“ This is so beautiful.” Danielle commented doing the same as Danielle. “ I can’t believe I haven’t taken you here.” Eleanor mumbled as she reached to the back seat and grabbed her Mulberry purse.
“ I can’t believe it either!” Danielle said. Eleanor opened her door and Danielle did the same.
Vanessa stepped onto the brick and took in the cold breeze. Thankfully, she changed into something a bit more warmer. She wore her black Zara leggings, Topshop boots, a nice white jumper and borrowed Eleanor’s Zara jacket.
“ Ready?” Eleanor smiled holding her purse on her arm. Vanessa nodded.
*******
Vanessa helped as she carried some of Eleanor’s bags and some of Danielle’s into the flat. Vanessa, herself, had only bought a cute hat and a couple of blouses for the winter as she tried to stay true to her budget. “ Ugh. Never take me back there again!” Danielle moaned as she carried her multiple bags in. “ If you do I won’t be able to buy myself food ever again.” She laughed setting down her bags onto the couch. Eleanor had less bags but was still suffering for the bags held heavy accessories and decorations for the flat.
“ I am so excited to decorate the house tomorrow!” Eleanor said holding up two cute sea horse statues that she had picked up at a boutique for 5 pounds. “ They are so cute for the bathroom! Don’t you agree?” She asked looking at Vanessa. Vanessa nodded as she yawned. “ I just have Uni in the morning and then I have to go straight to work from there.” Vanessa stated. Eleanor sighed and fell onto the couch.
“ You can’t even come to take Danielle to the airport with me?” She asked. Vanessa looked at Danielle and back to Eleanor. “ Well class doesn’t start till 10-” “ I’m leaving at eight so you can come-but if you want to sleep in or-” “ No I’ll come.” Vanessa said interrupting Danielle. Danielle lifted her eyebrow and Vanessa nodded to confirm her decision.
“ Okay.” Danielle smiled.
******
Vanessa was sitting front as Danielle drove Eleanor’s Cooper. The sun was barley rising and the fields of grass that spread across seemed to go on for ages. Eleanor was in the back resting with her headphones in and a blanket on top of her while Danielle had turned on BBC radio 1 and had both hands on the wheel. “ Are you sure you don’t want me to drive? I feel bad that you are leaving to day and you have to drive.” Vanessa offered pulling on her hoodie. “ No. No. I miss driving! I never do it anymore because I just travel in my other dancer’s cars or by taxi- so it’s a bit refreshing.” Danielle smiled. She put down the window a tad and let the cold air filled the car.
“ Nooo. Up.” Eleanor moaned from the back opening her eyes a bit a cuddling more into her blanket. Danielle did as she was told. “ I haven’t got the slightest clue why you would come to drop me off if all your going to do is sleep in the back. Why didn’t you just stay home?” Danielle asked. Eleanor took her earphones off and shifted herself. “ I really don’t know. It’s just a tradition. Remember the first time I took you to the airport?” Eleanor asked.
Danielle scoffed and smiled to herself. Vanessa watched form the side wandering what had happened. Danielle, obviously seeing Vanessa’s confused looks, began to explain. “ The first time me and Eleanor met we were at a hotel here in Manchester. I had to leave around this time for Jessie J’s music video and Eleanor offered to take me because Liam was busy and blah blah blah-” Eleanor then leaned over to join. “ And then-” Eleanor began. “ We walked out of the hotel and gto rampaged by tons of the boy’s fans. Danielle almost fell over and we couldn’t get to the car on time so we ran into the Starbucks hopefully to gain some privacy. We were new at the whole fan thing so we found that they would all rampage in there so we ran to the bathroom where we camped out and Danielle missed her flight.”
Vanessa held her hand over her mouth as she listened and Daniele laughed at her expression.
“ Just wait, just wait-” Danielle smiled. Eleanor continued. “ We called Paul and he went down and got us and as a sorry from the Starbucks staff they gave us free drink-” “ Starting our addiction to Starbucks.” Danielle smiled. “ That is amazing.” Vanessa said bringing her knees up to her chest she could now see the airport from where she was sitting.
“ I think that was my first time having Starbucks.” Danielle said. “ Same.” Eleanor smiled and leaned back onto her seat.
*******
Vanessa pulled out Danielle’s duffle from the boot of the cooper and set it down. Danielle, already on the sidewalk with Eleanor, held her suitcase on her hip. “ Here you go.” Vanessa smiled as Danielle retrieved the duffle. “ Thank you so much.: Danielle said leaning in for a hug. Vanessa and Danielle embraced for awhile and then switched to Eleanor. “ I’m going to miss you guys so much. Promise to text me pictures and keep me updated with you lives.” She asked. Both Vanessa and Eleanor nodded.
Vanessa could see the pain in Danielle’s eyes as she held her belongings and started to depart from her and Eleanor. It was going to be three months until she came back to Manchester and a week or so until she was back in London. Sadly, this was the longest Danielle was going to be away.
“ Okay.” Danielle mumbled to the ground and then began to walk towards the doors.
Vanessa could only relate to this feeling. The feeling of letting go of a world and a place which you held so dearly. A place where you shared laughs and memories that would haunt you through your long away trip from the people or place that once comforted you.
Vanessa watched as Danielle left and imagined her in her place. The small steps that she would have to take if she didn’t keep her job. The small steps that would be taking her farther and farther away from her fantasy world and back to her boring and steady home.
Vanessa knew that could be her in a couple of weeks, and she was going to work as hard as she could to stay as far away from that fantasy as possible.
Chapter 12 ~ Part 3
“ Hey miss, can I get a mocha and a nice piece of dat ass.” Vanessa heard a low voice from behind her as she scrubbed the floor under the coffee maker. Vanessa turned around to see a familiar set of brown curls. “ Danielle!” Vanessa cheered getting up from her knees. As Vanessa walked around the counter Eleanor walked into the café with a bright smile on her face and keys in her hand.
Vanessa reached Danielle and gave her a huge hug. “ Girl! I have missed you.” Danielle smiled into Vanessa’s hair as they embraced. “ Me too!” She said and released from their hug. “ Hey! How was Dancing on Ice!” Vanessa jumped up and down. “ Its was amazing! But a bit chilly for we had to wear thin white leotards.” Danielle giggled. Vanessa did as well.
“ Oh my gosh.” Vanessa heard from behind the counter. Hilary stood with bags of cups that we was picking up from the floor and set them on the counter as she admired to two beautiful girlfriends. “ Eleanor, Danielle, this is Hilary. She is my co-worker.” Vanessa introduced. Hilary stood with her mouth practically open. “ Hi love.” Danielle smiled holding out her hand. Hilary took it and closed her mouth. “ Hello.” Eleanor said pleasantly and shook Hilary’s hand as well.
“ Oh my gosh. You guys are gorgeous.” Hilary commented making Vanessa feel a bit embarrassed for her. Knowing Danielle and Eleanor, they will be kind and admire the compliment. “ Thank you, you are too kind!” Eleanor smiled.
“ Ca-Can I get you anything?” Hilary asked. Eleanor and Danielle looked over the menu and ordered and Hilary was off.
“ Tonight is Danielle’s last night!” Eleanor stated putting her hands on her small hips. Danielle pouted. “ Aw! No! She is supposed to stay here with me forever.” Vanessa said wrapping her arms around Danielle and Squeezing her tightly. “ We should do something.” Vanessa suggested and the girls all brainstormed.
*******
“ Hey Hun! How is the job?” Vanessa’s mum’s voice rang.
“ Great! I mean- the boss is a bit of a pain but I think I can manage.” Vanessa replied.
“ Pay?”
“Good.”
“ People?”
“ Good.”
“ Work?”
Vanessa stumbled on the question.
“ Well- I haven’t really gotten to actually make drinks, serve customers and all that because- well- I don’t know maybe because I’m new.”
“ Is she teaching you anything?
Vanessa stumbled again and took a long sigh.
“ Um- no.”
The line was silent.
“ Mum?”
“ Yeah no. I mean-”
“ Mum. I’ll manage. I will be okay.” Vanessa said trying to find any hope of her mum not losing faith in her.
“ Okay. But make sure this one sticks. You only have four weeks if you give it up.” Her mum reminded.
Vanessa heard the door of her bedroom open and Eleanor padded in with a smile on her face.
“ I know mum. I will try my best. I have to go right now though- I have Uni in the morning.”
They both said their goodbye and Vanessa hung up.
Eleanor was now at the end of Vanessa's bed playing with the ruffles attached to the end of a blanket. “ Your mum worried?” She asked. Vanessa shook her head. “ She is always worried.” She giggled. Eleanor made a soft giggle and continued to pluck at the blanket.
“ Dani is finishing up packing and now we are just wondering where we should head for our last night together as a three.” Eleanor cooed. Vanessa put her index finger to her lip and thought. “ I’m not very hungry.” She said. Eleanor shook her head agreeing.
The two girls sat in the silence of the room. The only sound coming from the Tele that was set to the news. “ How about the shopping center in town? I have never been there but it‘s gorgeous.” Vanessa said. Eleanor jumped making Vanessa’s bed bounce. “ That’s perfect! Then we can have dinner and-” Eleanor stopped and scoffed. “ Damn you are perfect.” She stated and got up and headed toward the door. “ I’ll go tell Danielle.” She yelled as she walked out of the bedroom.
