Few plants will get a mushroom hunter as jump-up-and-cheer excited as this one! This is Allotropa virgata, called candystick, sugar stick, or the barberpole plant. Itâs a bizarre mycoheterotrophic plant with no chlorophyll thatâs in the blueberry family, Ericaceae. The reason itâs so exciting to see this plant is that it feeds by taking nutrients from Tricholoma matsutake mycelia exclusively. Tricholoma matsutake, is, of course, the Matsutake mushroom! Itâs edible and quite tasty. Where you see a candystick in the spring, you know youâll find Matsutake in the fall. Â
Neat but is the candy stick edible? It looks tasty like a candy cane
No, it isnât edible. It wouldnât poison you, I suppose, but it has no value as food for humans and itâs an uncommon and fragile plant that would die if picked. Itâs most useful as an indicator of Matsutake mushroom presence. Picking it to eat would really be killing the goose with the golden eggs, because then you couldnât find the mushrooms as easily! Matsutake are delicious and some of the best choice mushrooms in the area.
I finally found my photos of my microscopic orchids that bloomed in my terrarium! I wanted @pangur-and-grim to see them!
This reminded me of the coralroot orchids I found while hiking once!
Oh fuck, @plantanarchy, now I have fallen down a dandelion google-hole and have discovered that there is a pink dandelion and I want it and now I have ended up on a site selling seeds and they have entirely too many cool things and I have entirely too much work and too many plants already and I need help.
Oh?????
Baker Creek Heirloom Seeds is a great resource for these and I want them to dot my yard and baffle my neighbors.

I knew it, That didnât even sound believable. Itâs not just the monk part, How is one sound made up of a dozen sounds???
I'm mad I didn't know until now that Tumblr mobile has a night mode
Thereâs wHAT?! You mean to tell me Iâve been needlessly burning my retinas off this whole time?!
For anyone thatâs been having problems backing up their tumblr to their hard drive, ETD did a very quick and rough tutorial (rough in ever since of the word, poor dear is ill) on youtube for how to use this tutorial:
https://github.com/bbolli/tumblr-utils/blob/master/tumblr_backup_for_beginners.md
Hopefully him doing a quick walk through solves some of the issues you were having:
ALTERNATIVE TO TUMBLRâS EXPORT SYSTEM
Okay so, thereâs this application called TumblThree that lets you download your entire blog.
You can check it out HERE! (As far as I know, this is only for Windows. Sorry Mac/Linux usersâŠ)
There are instructions on how to use it in the same page, but if you want a basic step-by-step, then keep reading!
1. Download the application
Go to the releases page. You want to download the .zip file that says âapplicationâ. (Version number might vary as the developer updates it)
2. Unzip it
Open the .zip file. You should find a folder named âTumblThreeâ. Drag and drop this folder to whatever directory you want.
3. Open the program
Navigate to the folder you just unzipped and open it. Inside, double-click the file called âTumblThreeâ
You will see this window pop up on your screen:
4. Add your blog
On the bottom-left corner, enter your blogâs url and then click on âAdd Blogâ. Your blog should appear in the list. (Iâm using my art blog as an example)
Then, select your blog in the list and click âAdd to Queueâ. Your blog should appear on the sidebar on the right.
Note: You can download posts from any blog, but keep in mind that the blogâs owner might not be happy with people downloading their art without their permission. I recommend you use this on your own blog(s) only.
5. Set things up
At the top of the queue, click on the âDetailsâ tab. It should look like this.
This part is very important, so read carefully! If you would like to download ALL posts from your blog (e.g. Your blog has only art youâve uploaded), then you should probably want to keep the default settings.
If you would like to download your original posts and exclude reblogs (e.g. You use your blog for both art and reblogs), youâll want to uncheck the âDownload reblogged postsâ at the bottom of the list
6. Download!
Once youâre happy with the settings, click on âCrawlâ (The button with the magnifying glass). A progress bar will appear and your blogâs contents will be downloaded. Depending on how big your blog is, this might take a while.
The downloaded files will be located inside the TumblThree directory, inside a new folder called âBlogsâ.
And there you have it! Now you have a backup of your blog!
Fall is here.Â

The Great Bot Purge 2018
Tumblr is in an epidemic. The porn bot apocalypse is here. And itâs really, really, really, really, really annoying. Even more annoying than me saying really five times in a row because letâs face it:

Howdy bro, my profile here.
Lately the probability of finding a comment like this in the notes has gone up from 100% to a 10000% and itâs seriously impacting our user experience.
I have been here since 2010, @staff. Started out as wolf blog and in 2012 I used to share my poetry and made eight super good friends to which I am still talking today! But now what?
Itâs pretty safe to say that there are a number of bot networks active on this website. The one asking for bitcoin and the aforementioned âlooking for funâ one for example. The bots follow a pattern and because itâs a network it should be easy to roll up.
I know we always point at @staff to fix this, but honestly, itâs not an easy fix. I know many people block bots, but do we also report and flag them? How does staff respond to flags?
Anyway, here is what I and 10,000 other people who started following this blog over the last 24 hours propose:
We purge the bots. The porn bots. All of them. This is going to be one big COORDINATED effort to destroy the bots!
For one month we are going to report and flag those blogs, and make sure we cut their profits so they donât make enough money to support their bot network.
Itâs very important that we do this as a community. This is a movement. Everyone has to join so we can limit the outcome of this battle to only two possibilities:
We win this battle
@staff really doesnât give a shit
Letâs go get them! Join the army @purgethebots
I would like to thank everyone for joining our army and turning on post notifications. Â
Here is how we proceed:
Our first objective is to purge the influx of âwant to have fun?â bots in the comments. Tumblrâs ToS allows porn blogs, so we donât flag bot blogs for âsensitive contentâ, but rather for spam. Because that is exactly what they are doing: spamming the comments with unsafe links to shady websites.
We have two types of warriors in our army. Mobile and desktop users.
Mobile users: If you are on mobile, your options are limited. You can only report comments.
 Click on notes
Press or tap a bot comment
 Select âReportâ
 Choose âBlock"Â
Your task is to report as many bot comments as possible and make a statement to @supportâ and @staffâ.
Desktop users: If youâre on desktop, your mission is to flag porn bot accounts.Â
Click on "Notes"Â
Click on the avatar of the bot blogÂ
Tap the pawn/human icon report > report spam > Flag & BlockÂ
Starting August 1, a new list of ~200 post links divided by zodiac signs will be posted everyday. In order to make things a tad more entertaining, I will give the operations silly or epic titles.
Join us @purgethebots , turn on post notifications so we can coordinate our first attack and prepare yourself for operation:

Dad struggles to conquer his fear of heights. [full video]
That dad and my dad are very similar.
Mine had to cross a rope bridge, it was idk 40 feet, and he gripped the railing-ropes and squatted/walked the whole way. I wish we had footage b/c it was fucking hysterical. Heâs fine with roller-coasters, bridges, buildings, etc but some outdoor height activities are not his thing.
Autumn harvest.
