I am a firm believer in the idea that if a movie or hell even art in general is made out of a love for the art that is being created, it is good.
No matter the supposed âqualityâ of the project or what if it is made out of true passion and love it is always good 100 percent of the time.

Is it an ADHD thing to not realize you're in pain or not be able to recognize the source of pain? I just spent 6 hours feeling awful because I had a really bad headache, but couldnt figure out what was wrong until my mom asked be why i was being so grumpy. Also, i just wanted to thank you for the way you actually talk about your experiences with ADHD and Autism and being Nonbinary. Also the cursed stuff is cool too.
self-regulation tends to be more difficult when you have adhd/autism. itâs good to get in the habit of pausing for a few minutes and consciously making an assessment:
what is my biggest current source of pain/discomfort? how can I change that? should i take a pain reliever?Â
am i hungry? howâs my blood sugar? when did i last eat
howâs my general level of anxiety/overstimulation?
howâs the noise level? could i benefit from wearing earplugs?
am i too warm/cold? should i put on/take off a layer?
am i thirsty? are my lips dry? could i use water/chapstick?
if i could do one thing to make myself more comfortable in the next hour, what would it be?
try setting a timer and doing this every 2 hours or so. soon it gets to be automatic (i still set timers sometimes when i know my day is going to be busy). on a related note, itâs good to carry around a âself-regulation grab bagâ (mine has painkillers, granola bars, ear plugs, water, chapstick, lotion, etc)
other questions to ask yourself!
do I need to use the bathroom?
is anything about my clothing uncomfortable? do I need to adjust my waistband, shoelaces, etc? would I benefit from wearing looser/tighter/softer/thicker clothes?
do I feel sweaty or grimy? should I wash my hands or face?
would I benefit from a 5/10 minute break, or from a snack, or from just standing up and stretching?
would listening to music help me focus/feel better?
is something causing me anxiety that Iâm not conciously aware of? what can I do to address this feeling?
am I caught in a dopamine seeking loop? do I need to step away from what Iâm doing and break out of it?
over time, making a conscious habit of checking in with myself has led me to become better at automatically recognizing my needs and feelings. it takes some work, but like many habits it becomes easier and instinctive with practice!
(also while self-regulation issues are common in autistic/ADHD folks, plenty of other people deal with them too. whoever you are, I hope you find these tips helpful!)
TIL the bag I carry around is and always has been a self-regulation grab bag. I always have protein bars, water, my meds, some Tylenol, sunglasses for bright days, gum or mints, nail clippers, and usually a book to read (or my phone, which has ebooks). Sometimes I can fit a sweater in there too, depending on how big my current bag is.
I carried around mine for years before ever hearing the phrase âself-regulation.â itâs amazing how many coping mechanisms are intuitive; you donât need to consciously associate a habit with specific mental health symptoms to recognize âhey this is a thing that makes my life easier in certain ways.â
that being said, figuring out why you do the things you do (and identifying areas where you are still struggling) will leave you better equipped to deal with your needs in the future :)
The trope where a character overhears something out of context and assumes the worst is usually annoying and bad but I really think it works well in Shrek
We, the audience, know that Fiona is talking about herself but, regardless, sheâs calling herself these terrible things because she is an ogre. If Fiona is these things because she is is an ogre what does that make Shrek?
If Fiona says no one could love her because she is an ogre, she is saying that Shrek is also unloveable whether she wants to or not.
Imo the scene is a really good portrayal of how when you talk poorly of yourself or others for having a trait, youâre also talking about every other person who shares that trait; even if you love them or think what youâre saying doesnât apply to them.

luckily, even professionals struggle to tell the difference when it comes to things like baked goods. but there is a distinct difference in non-heat treated products like vanilla ice cream. real vanilla has a more complex, individualized flavor profile.
why is vanilla so expensive? because it is a ridiculously delicate & demanding crop. complete primadonna.
vanilla beans come from vanilla orchids. these crazy flowers bloom for A SINGLE DAY and have to be HAND-POLLINATED in a process that is exhausting, delicate, and requires specialist knowledge passed down over generations.
then, if you're lucky, you get vanilla beans.
which then require months of further specialized treatment.
the entire process takes about a year and can go wrong at any stage
vanilla has been cultivated for over 800 years (possibly much longer). the first known cultivators are the Totonac, an indigenous people of Mexico.
the Aztecs used it as a sweetener to balance out the bitter taste of cocoa. it was popular in a drink called xocolatl--the precursor to modern hot chocolate!
it is only pollinated by a very specific orchid bee!!!
which is why no fruit could be grown outside of Mexico until the 1800s

if you want real vanilla, read the labels carefully--it's harder to find than you think!
