my buddhism audiobook paused mid-paragraph for a startling length of time and my arts major ass was like "Wow. What a powerful commentary on stillness." (my phone had died.)

Pretty different thing but similar energy, but this reminds me of a funny moment that happened at a fighting game tournament for the game “Samurai Shodown (2019)”. For those who don’t know, SamSho is a game that’s characterized at the top level as being a very slow, methodical game played very defensively because the characters have potential to get HUGE damage off of single hits.

So anyways the round starts and the players get a few hits in neutral and after the exchange end up on opposite ends of the screen. Player 2 is making a few micro movements to try and bait out something from player 1, and player 1 is just not moving at all. This goes on for about a minute, player 2 shimmying back and forth and player 1 staying motionless. While this is happening the commentators are talking about how this level of patience from both players is critical at the top level of the game and how both players are doing very well not to overextend.

It turns out player 1s controller had just disconnected.
