nervous little thing
Teddy laid out on the bed on his stomach, staring at the printed words in the textbook. He skimmed the paragraphs and he scribbled a word here or there in his notes. Maybe a phrase when he felt extra productive. Next week he had a test in his history class, and he found some time to prepare for it because a decent test grade helped keep him in school and, more importantly, in sports.
Itâs boring. He crossed his arms over his textbook and laid his head down on top. Teddy pulled an earbud out of his ear, exchanging the motivating music for incessant tapping.
An annoyed sigh escaped his lips a few minutes later, then he turned his head toward Ben. âYouâre fine,â he replied. He smiled to prove he wasnât all that upset. âThe noise gets to me a little, but I understand. Iâll put my earbud back in and you can tap as much as you want.â
âIâll try and keep it down.â And instead, Ben closed the book and moved away from the desk, on his swivel chair. âThatâs enough physics for the day, I believe.â He stretched on his chair, unable to contain the yawn that followed along.
He was so tired suddenly. Like all the thinking was finally catching up with him, and he was tired of hiding things from people. Like his roommate, and his first best mate in the house. Looking at the textbook in Teddyâs hand, he scooted closer.
âWhatcha studyinâ there? Can I help?â
