Jean Weisinger spent much of the 1990s capturing intimate portraits of revolutionary Black women — Audre Lorde, Alice Walker, Angela Davis, and Assata Shakur among them — and impromptu photographs of people she met in her travels across the United States. Almost none of the artist’s work made its way into museum collections or gallery exhibitions, but from the tiny Alice Austen House in Staten Island, Executive Director Victoria Munro has spent the past two and a half years developing Weisinger’s unrevealed photographs and meticulously documenting the histories behind each one of them.

i want to see if cold noodle dishes can be photographed like this. or is there a food whose appearance won’t be compromised through thermal translation? something in the orange family. it might also be a funny way to present meats in terms of knowing when they’re done

“Unfortunately, Na'Chanelle didn't always know what it was like to feel regal and purposeful. It was only after spending years engulfed with self-hate and crippling insecurities that she found the strength to make it her life's commitment to be consumed by all that is focused on self-love and black girl positivity.”
Na’Chanelle is the co-founder of Black Girl Magik. While I do not identify as a woman, her story resonated w me. I know too well what it’s like to be wrapped and warped by systems that thrive on self-deprecation. I know what it’s like to want to be saved.
Black Girl Magik looks like love. Support this movement.

Jayden sleeping in my grandparents living room, a room that myself and many before him were forbidden to enter. With the exception of holiday or other large family convening. I remember my cousins would chase me into this room with such aggression that I’d have no way to avoid stepping onto the carpet. They knew my grandmother would roar at the sight, steeped in the memory of my feet.
