ultimately the best way to prevent abuse is to organize society in such a way that everyone's needs are met wothout having to rely on a parent or employer or boyfriend or any one individual. obviously wont stop, like, manipulation or so on, but the ability to dangle basic needs over someone's head is one of the most powerful and consistant tools of abuse out there. if someone is able to just leave, and know that they will have access to food and shelter and clean water and education, that will enable so, so mamy victims of abuse to do just that.

People get mad @ me when I point out that one of the major hurdles to overcoming anti-vaccine conspiracies amongst the general populace is that the medical-industrial complex has repeatedly demonstrated itself to be unworthy of trust, but listen. Listen.

The overwhelming majority of antivaxxers I've met in real life have been nurses in hospitals. I make it a point not to associate with such people if I can possibly avoid it, so pretty much the only time I would have to hear about it directly is if I'm part of a trapped audience waiting for something else to happen. And so almost all the people I've met who felt moved to take me aside and "warn" me about the fictitious dangers of vaccines have been registered nurses despensing medical """advice""" inside of hospitals.

So if anything I'd say the problem has been grossly, critically underestimated.

The thing that pro-vaccine people forget is that anti-vaxxers aren't anti-vax because they they hate their loved ones or themselves. They are anti-vax because charlatans have exploited their very valid negative interactions and feelings about the medical industrial complex and the horrors committed by the same to radicalize them away from science in the name of protecting the ones they love the most.

Are you going to trust the doctor who, after you just gave them a laundry list of symptoms, tells you to exercise more and reduce stress? Or are you going to trust the charlatans who validates your very real feelings and fears around vaccinating the people who are most precious to you.

If the medical community wants to fix the anti-vax problem they gotta fix the trust problem first.

off topic to the absolutely amazing and brilliant new game changer ep, but i just have to say how much i loved hearing jiavani and demi be referred to as she/him and he/they, respectively, so naturally by sam and the cast. i don't think we'll see mainstream media refer to, let alone cast, genderqueer and gnc people with such normalacy.

obviously they have been referred to correctly on other shows but the constant uses of pronouns in the "count the rice" song just made it really prominent. idk im just so happy

Look I don't think Supergirl (2026) is secretly a perfect masterpiece or anything (I personally thought it was like. a 6/10 fun time) but I do think it's wild that Tumblr isn't going crazy for it because this Kara is one coattailed suit away from being a Tumblr sexyman. she is the flawed messy female character people have supposedly been clamouring for. she's the popular archetype of a gruff self-destructive alcoholic middle-aged man begrudgingly having to look after a kid and growing fond of them but genderswapped and also 23. she's allowed to be visibly messy and kind of gross and her hair is constantly all over the place and she literally cries, screams, throws up, and pisses onscreen. she's caustic and mean and puts up an act of carelessness but has a heart of gold. she's heavily traumatised and coping with it terribly. if anything happens to her dog she will kill everyone in this room and then herself. she spends most of the movie in a trench coat and baggy band T-shirt. she gets into bar brawls and breaks a guy's hand. she is Going Through It 24/7 and looks the part. she stabs a guy in the throat. how is everyone else not obsessed with her.
