its messing with me that ingrid is only 18. she's the same age as eva but i just know for a fact the students subconsciously perceive her to be older than she actually is due to her physical appearance, verbal mannerisms and responsible nature. being 18 didn't save eva; it most certainly will not save ingrid. but where people grant eva some form of mercy by saying she was only a scared 18 yo girl, i can only hope that same kind of consideration will be given to ingrid if she too becomes a blackened
the great part about seeing analysis on ingrid is seeing ingrid. the bad part is realizing and having to accept that her doom may be fast approaching
oh don't mind me, just thinking about how Desmond's motif is of an animal that is generally calm and curious and only aggressive when provoked yet is constantly portrayed and perceived as inherently dangerous and violent
THEORY: Mark is lying about Ingrid's blackmail
This theory has spoilers for the Prologue and Ch1 so do not read this if you haven't completed both of these.
In Ch1, when Grace was yelling at Eloise about the blackmail, she reveals that apparently she knows 'most people's' blackmails - how she knows this I have no idea - and she starts to list whose blackmail belongs to who. Then, this interaction occurs:
This is just speculation, but I find it odd that Mark chooses to cut her off here - maybe he was trying to get Grace to stop before she mentioned whose blackmail he had, but he was too slow? In any case, Mark claims it's not an issue, when Kai gets worried on his behalf. Ingrid's blackmail is merely just that she uses out of date cleaning supplies. No problem, right?
However, we do not see a photograph for this, nor do we see the envelope like we did for Jett when he revealed Toshiko's secret.
This, alongside a few other points, makes me believe that Mark was lying, and that Ingrid's blackmail is something else entirely.
Prologue Dialogue with Ingrid
During Cara's investigation, you have this interaction with Ingrid:
In order to progress to the class trial, you need to talk to every character, so this interaction is impossible to skip. Considering Ingrid told Damon this very casually, it isn't fully out of question that either a) she told Mark, if he asked her, or b) that Mark overheard her telling someone this and remembered it for later. I find it very strange that out of all people Ingrid is the one whose blackmail we know about so early on, before the motive was even assigned.
Note that this occurs before Eva mentioned the possibility of Tozu using their information against them to manipulate them to commit murder. In a world where Tozu was truly telling the truth about using Eva's suggestion, it is likely he would have chosen information that nobody knew about. And if Tozu was just lying just to cause conflict between Eva and everybody else, it still proves that Tozu pays close attention to their conversations. I find it unlikely that he would miss something like this when choosing secrets for a murder motive.
Tozu's Own Words About The Motive
This is what Tozu said about what he chose as blackmail:
The first image is self-explanatory - it's their worst secrets. Using out-of-date cleaning supplies doesn't really fit the bill.
The second image is in response to Cassidy asking about Toshiko's blackmail, and how that constitutes as their worst secret. Toshiko's a fourteen year old girl, so it's more likely there isn't a lot of information on her. Furthermore, the fact that Toshiko's blackmail is so childish paints her as a more easy target, so despite it's childishness Toshiko's blackmail still serves a purpose.
However, I do not believe that Ingrid is so uninteresting that there was no material to work with. Currently we know very little about her backstory - she's taken over her family business that's been going on for around two hundred years, and not much else. Surely there's something Tozu could dig up about her - potentially a family secret, that Ingrid was forced to hide? Or something we don't even know about yet? Anything would be more interesting than cleaning supplies.
For the third and fourth images, there's the chance that if Ingrid's blackmail is different to what Mark claims, it could be something dangerous. Some of these blackmails are pretty vague, like Cassidy's:
If Ingrid's blackmail was this vague, there's the chance that Mark might have been too confused to even register it as a threat, and therefore he would have seen no need to hide it. The fact that he's lying about it could prove that Ingrid's blackmail is damning enough that if it gets out, it would not only endanger Mark but also cast Ingrid in a very bad light.
Weaker Bodies And Even Weaker Minds
Wenona says this after the first class trial:
The two people who react to Wenona's words are Toshiko (not shown) and Mark. He's aware that he's a bigger target in the killing game, considering his 'weaker body and weaker mind'. Receiving Ingrid's blackmail has probably made his chances of survival worse, especially if it is a serious secret.
Although there's the possibility that Mark could have followed Wolfgang's advice, spoken to Ingrid, and chosen to lie for her claiming that her blackmail is something else, approaching Ingrid with her blackmail could put a target on his back. If Ingrid ever breaks under the pressure and chooses to kill someone, ensuring that her secret dies with her would be a compelling reason to murder Mark over anybody else, as well as the fact that he's physically weak.
Final Thoughts
Because of the above reasons, I think Mark is lying about Ingrid's blackmail. There's a chance that he saw Toshiko's blackmail from Jett, and therefore thought that he could make up something similarly inoffensive for Ingrid so that he wouldn't be in any danger. Alternatively, he agreed to lie for Ingrid so her secret wouldn't get out. Either way, I think this theory has some merit.
One headcanon for 99 P:EG ships
The P:EG ships not included are Toshiko ships, Tozu ships, Mara ships, Cara ships, Damian ships, and Diana ships that have her with a character that’s 20 or older. The order of ship appearance was randomized by a spinner!
Cassidy/Jean - Cassidy recommends games Jean can add to his ship’s arcade, and Jean always listens to her
Ingrid/Kai - Whenever Kai doesn’t get his way with something, he goes to Ingrid. Even if she can’t help him, he still likes having her fuss over him
Mark/Wenona - Sometimes, if Wenona has to go to something like a business meeting, she brings Mark along just to have something pretty to look at
Jett/Eloise - Jett is a pretty reckless driver, and Eloise is one of the few people, if not the only person, who can tolerate it. She actually enjoys being in a car with him
Wolfgang/Ingrid - Wolfgang is shy in front of Ingrid’s family, even though they adore him, which Ingrid is so happy about
Cassidy/Ingrid - Cassidy sometimes asks Ingrid to make her some sort of weapon, usually a sword, from a game. Ingrid does her best to make it a reality
Kai/Diana - They’re both sending each other videos and saying it’s them. Kai prefers sending videos where it’s an aesthetic background with text that says something like how much they miss their lover, and Diana prefers sending videos of two cute animals bonding
Wolfgang/Damon - After doing laundry, Wolfgang often asks Damon whose clothes belong to who. Damon says he’s being stupid and it’s obvious, but they can dress so similarly that Damon also has to pause and wonder whose clothes are whose. They eventually figure it out by seeing if the clothes fit them
Jean/Grace - Every now and then, Grace talks about getting a tattoo and asks Jean for his thoughts on what she should get. Jean doesn’t know if she actually will get one, but he answers her honestly nonetheless
Mark/Desmond - When Mark is watching Desmond work out, Desmond tries to show off. Mark pretends he’s impressed even when he’s not to make him happy
Jett/Wenona - Wenona has a personal chauffeur, and they were scared that they were going to lose their job after Wenona started dating the Ultimate Drag Racer. When Jett found out, his ego was fed for months
Jean/Ingrid - Ingrid likes to volunteer at animal shelters. Jean comes with her, even though he’s pretty sure that the animals don’t like him. Ingrid always tells him that they do
Jean/Ulysses - Jean isn’t the best at remembering parts of history that he doesn’t care about, but he cares about seeing Ulysses happy, so he tries to remember those pieces so he can make references to them later and see Ulysses’s eyes light up
Wolfgang/Ulysses - When they live together, Ulysses leaves notes around their home with reminders telling Wolfgang what to do, some of them having instructions (e.g. how to wash dishes). Wolfgang does his best to follow them
Ingrid/Wenona - Wenona likes to have slower moments in life when it sometimes feels like she has to focus on only her business, and Ingrid is always happy to help her get those slower and more intimate moments
Wenona/Ulysses - Ulysses doesn’t want to make Wenona think he was using her for her money, so he always tries to pay with his own money. Wenona knows he isn’t a gold digger and tries to make him more comfortable with seeing her money as also his money
Desmond/Eloise - Some might consider it counterintuitive, but after working out together, Desmond and Eloise sometimes get a sweet treat together
Mark/Kai - Early into their relationship, Kai kept trying to stay awake late at night to spend more time with Mark, but he kept falling asleep. Seeing Kai like that was a motivator for Mark to have a better sleep schedule
Grace/Wenona - Wenona is a huge germaphobe and hates anything that could be slightly dirty. Grace makes fun of her for it, but she also adjusted her behaviour to fit Wenona’s wants, sometimes consciously, sometimes unconsciously
Kai/Wenona - Wenona accidentally spoiled Kai, and she should try fighting against it, but anytime Kai asks her to buy him something, she can’t bring herself to say no
Jett/Damon - Funnily enough, Damon’s parents absolutely adore Jett. Damon is happy, but he also gets a little confused when Jett shows up not for him but to do something with his parents
Jett/Ulysses - Ulysses spends a lot of time learning parts of history that he thinks Jett will like to listen to so they can both have fun talking about something
Jett/Ingrid - If Jett is in a fight, he always makes a big show when he talks about his “scary girlfriend who’ll beat you up,” and then you find out that girlfriend is Ingrid
Mark/Diana - Diana struggles to say no to people, but when it comes to saying no for Mark, she can easily do that. Mark also struggles to say no to people but he can say no on behalf of Diana
Wolfgang/Kai - Before dating, Kai accidentally posts things that he shouldn’t in case he got into legal trouble (e.g. hinting that he did something like shoplift). Now, he always asks Wolfgang if he can post something without having to worry about legal consequences (and Wolfgang can give advice to him because he’s technically not his lawyer…)
Damon/Eva - Watching horror movies with Damon is fun because he clings to Eva, yeah, but she also likes watching them with him just for his reactions (they’re funny)
Desmond/Eva - Eva sometimes makes references to things that Desmond doesn’t know, which immediately makes her not want to reference it anymore, so Desmond tries his best to learn about what she’s referencing (and he’s insanely proud of himself when he gets it)
Desmond/Damon - Damon is one of those people who talks throughout the entirety of a movie because he wants to understand it the best he can in the moment. Desmond’s ok with it and doesn’t mind explaining things to him
Wolfgang/Jett - More than a few times has Jett felt like he wasn’t a good enough partner for Wolfgang. Wolfgang is patient with him and does his best to help Jett feel like he is loved
Wolfgang/Mark - Wolfgang’s music taste does not include the music Mark makes, and it’s actually something he doesn’t want to listen to. This is actually one of the things Mark loves the most about him
Desmond/Grace - Desmond likes being gifted flowers, but he knows that Grace doesn’t want it to be a big deal, so he never mentions the flowers that he’s “mysteriously” gifted every month or so. The most he does is show them off in his home
Mark/Ulysses - Both of their sleep schedules are complete trash, but they found that they get the best sleep when they’re cuddling each other
Damon/Wenona - Damon cannot be anything like a personal assistant for Wenona, but if she needs something to be done for her, like have something carried for her, she knows what to say to him help her (it’s a mix of him loving his girlfriend and her rage-baiting him)
Wolfgang/Wenona - Wolfgang’s taste in furniture is pretty unique, to say the least, while Wenona likes a house that looks nice but is still functional. They managed to combine their tastes to design a house that actually looks pretty nice to live in
Jean/Eva - Eva likes drawing on Jean’s hands, and Jean likes telling Eva stories from his life, so a lot of their bonding time is Eva drawing on Jean while Jean tells her stories
Ingrid/Desmond - Ingrid is very emotional when it comes to movies and can cry at even the slightest hint of angst. Desmond has learned how to cheer her up
Wolfgang/Eva - Eva has a very ugly plushie that she only got because, according to her, it looks like Wolfgang, and she named it after him. The human Wolfgang has mixed feelings about it
Jett/Desmond - Desmond has a very easy time going along with whatever Jett says, but it does sometimes lead them into trouble. It makes Jett happy, though, so that’s all that matters
Jett/Eva - Jett doesn’t really have fun at things like fan conventions, but since Eva really likes them, he shuts his mouth and goes with her. The fun he gets is being with her
Wolfgang/Eloise - They started planning one trip to one country one day, and that one trip soon expanded into multiple. Now, they have enough trips planned to last more than a year, but the problem is that neither are free enough to actually do even one trip
Cassidy/Jett - Cassidy has Jett carry her when she doesn’t feel like walking. He agrees more often than expected
Mark/Damon - Mark likes late-night driving, so he gets Damon to drive him around. Damon complains but he always does it
Desmond/Wenona - No one noticed when they started dating because the shift in their dynamic was so small, so they had to see many people be startled by the fact that they were dating
Grace/Eloise - Eloise has noticed a lot about Grace when it comes to things she likes. Grace gets startled whenever Eloise brings up something Grace likes that she never told her, but Eloise acts like it’s common knowledge
Jean/Wenona - Jean likes taking Wenona to nice places. Her response when being asked if she likes where she is is always, “It’s ok,” which is her way of saying yes
Kai/Ulysses - They’re both coffee addicts, so a lot of their dates end up being coffee dates
Ingrid/Eva - Ingrid loves buying Eva random things that reminded her of Eva. Eva always accepts them, even if she doesn’t actually like the gift
Damon/Eloise - The process of how they adopted a cat was Eloise looking at a cat, saying she wants it, Damon looking at the cat, and agreeing to get it
Cassidy/Desmond - Cassidy struggles with things like doing buttons, and Desmond helps her out with them
Mark/Eva - Mark is very accident-prone, so Eva has learned to keep things like bandaids on her just in case
Desmond/Kai - Desmond’s music taste has been affected by Kai’s music taste. Now, his playlist is a lot of songs you’d expect Kai to like but not Desmond
Wolfgang/Jean - Jean has a collection of things he got while travelling the seas. Wolfgang doesn’t want to take things that he’s sure has sentimental value to Jean, but Jean is happy to give them to him
Cassidy/Eloise - They both love escape rooms and manage to get out of rooms in a relatively short amount of time (if they decided to put in their best effort)
Eloise/Diana - Eloise didn’t listen to her voicemails until Diana started leaving them for her. She loves listening to her voice and always makes sure there’s space for more voice mails from Diana
Grace/Ulysses - Grace keeps forgetting that Ulysses has a bad sleep schedule, and she keeps getting startled when she goes to get a snack or something similar at midnight and Ulysses is still awake
Cassidy/Ulysses - When one starts rambling, the other asks questions throughout to let them know that they’re listing
Jett/Grace - Jett has a sort of wish list of things he wants to do with Grace. Grace says it’s stupid, but she participates in completing them
Eva/Wenona - When Wenona’s doing something like getting paperwork done, Eva can be seen on her lap doing something equally as important (she’s doing something like reading a manga)
Cassidy/Damon - Cassidy had Damon dress up as characters from video games a few times. Every time, he has to remind himself that he’s doing this because he loves her
Cassidy/Eva - In games like the Sims where Cassidy can make video game versions of herself and Eva, she always makes them get together and gets very disappointed if they don’t
Jett/Jean - Jean doesn’t actually know how to drive, so Jett took it upon himself to teach him. Jean is having fun, but the results of this teaching are questionable… Jean managed to get his driver’s license though
Jean/Kai - Kai had Jean saved on his phone as something relating to pirates when they first met and hasn’t changed it. Jean knows this but decides to let it slide this one time. Kai’s planning to change it one day, but he hasn’t gotten to it yet
Ingrid/Diana - Diana’s too embarrassed to ask for things, but Ingrid has known Diana long enough for her to know when she wants to get something
Eloise/Wenona - Eloise once thought the jacket a random woman was wearing looked nice. Wenona said acted like she didn’t care before she started an extensive search to find the jacket for herself. It was worth it when Eloise said the jacket looked good on her
Ingrid/Eloise - They make lunch for each other. Eloise always makes sure to include food Ingrid likes, while Ingrid always makes the food look cute and taste good
Jean/Damon - Jean does his best to be the best boyfriend he can be, doing things like following the sidewalk rule and always walking Damon home. Damon insists that he doesn’t have to do this, but he also enjoys being treated like he’s something special
Kai/Eloise - Kai is very clingy in his sleep. Eloise has learned how to deal with and work around it, which is needed when she has to wake up in the morning
Mark/Eloise - They’ve become so close that it sometimes feels like they can read each others’ thoughts. Just one look at each other, and they basically just had a five-minute conversation
Grace/Eva - Grace gets easily jealous, and she loves PDA since it means she can easily let other people know who Eva is dating. How Eva feels about it depends on her mood
Cassidy/Diana - Cassidy has Diana do her makeup before her livestreams. When she begins her stream, she always credits her looks to her “amazing girlfriend”
Wolfgang/Desmond - Both of them admire how composed the other one can be and wants to be more like them
Ingrid/Ulysses - Ingrid gives Ulysses gifts sometimes. Ulysses is scared of losing them, so he always keeps them safe and clean in his bedroom
Cassidy/Wenona - Neither of them can cook. Cassidy convinced her once to cook with her, but they failed so badly that Wenona made a rule for them that they would only have a chef Wenona hired cook for them. Cassidy easily agreed to that rule
Grace/Kai - Kai tells Grace random gossip he heard while he’s hanging around and doing nothing while she’s working out. Grace doesn’t usually like people talking to her so much when she’s trying to work out, but she’ll make an exception for Kai
Damon/Diana - Diana really likes to cuddle. Damon expresses annoyance whenever she wants to, but he always agrees to whatever she wants
Cassidy/Grace - Cassidy doesn’t use things like step stools anymore because, according to her, Grace can either get things for her, or Grace will pick her up to help her get things from high up. She’s often proved right
Mark/Jean - Mark doesn’t like travelling on the road that much, but Jean does. Mark’s ok with travelling if it makes Jean happy, and whenever they are travelling, Jean does his best to cheer up his boyfriend whenever Mark expresses slight discomfort
Cassidy/Kai - Before they announced to their fans that they were dating, they tried acting overly flirty with each other online to see if anyone made any shipping content between them, but no one did. That actually ruined the rest of their month
Eloise/Ulysses - Whenever Eloise is upset, Ulysses is the first one she went to. Even though Ulysses might not sometimes know what to say, she appreciates how he listens to her
Ingrid/Damon - Ingrid learned that Damon just stops whatever he’s doing and becomes like a doll whenever she picks him up, so when he’s being mean, Ingrid picks him up for one second to make him stop. He should be mad, but he could never be mad at her
Jean/Eloise - Jean comes over to Eloise’s house so often that he might as well live here. Eloise normally would get tired of this, but since it’s Jean, it’s ok
Ingrid/Grace - Grace bites her bottom lip a lot out of habit. Ingrid wondered once if that was a good thing or not, and now, Grace tries to not do that
Eva/Eloise - Before dating, they’ve gotten into a few arguments because when Eva was showing Eloise a piece of media that she likes, Eloise has said (valid) criticism about the media that Eva didn’t want to hear. Eloise tries her best now not to say anything negative, but Eva now wants to hear her real opinions a little if it means that Eva isn’t forcing her to see something that she doesn’t like
Eva/Ulysses - Even if Eva just got a paper cut, Ulysses can’t rest until he checked to make sure she’s ok at least 20 times
Wolfgang/Grace - Grace doesn’t like interrupting her workout routine, but every now and then, she willing to take a few pictures that she’ll later send Wolfgang. Wolfgang enjoys said pictures a lot
Mark/Jett - Sometimes during lazy afternoons, Jett tells Mark the cringiest flirtatious lines that he can think of just to see his reactions. Mark always knows when it’s coming but he never leaves
Cassidy/Mark - Cassidy is very forgetful. Mark keeps reminding her of things that she forgot to do, and Cassidy’s always like, “What would I ever do without you?” before giving him a kiss as a reward
Grace/Damon - Grace doesn’t like sharing her food. If she’s annoying him while they’re eating, Damon will sometimes take her food to annoy her. She’s definitely annoyed, but in the end, she doesn’t actually do anything in retaliation
Damon/Ulysses - Damon paces when he’s ranting about something. Ulysses follows him around so he can make sure that he actually heard everything he’s saying
Mark/Grace - It wasn’t like Mark was oblivious to Grace’s hints before they started dating. He caught onto them fast but thought whatever Grace was feeling towards him wouldn’t last long, so he pretended not to see them. It infuriated Grace, and the “hints” got more and more obvious until Mark had to accept that Grace’s feelings towards him weren’t temporary
Eva/Diana - Diana has a whole list of pet names that she likes to call Eva. Eva calls all of them cringe, but no one else can say that, and she lets Diana call her whatever she wants
Desmond/Ulysses - Ulysses isn’t the best at communicating how he feels. He and Desmond are working on it
Desmond/Jean - Jean has a lot of plans for places he and Desmond are going to visit. Desmond doesn’t know if any of them will actually become true one day, but hey, Jean’s having fun with this, so he might as well have fun too
Jett/Kai - Both of them find the other the most beautiful person they have ever laid their eyes on, and they don’t understand why the other couldn’t see themselves as that
Cassidy/Wolfgang - If she’s playing a mystery game, Cassidy always plays it with Wolfgang. He has reasoned before that he’s a lawyer, not a detective, but Cassidy still wants to play them with him. He doesn’t argue anymore since it is fun to figure out a mystery with her
Kai/Eva - Eva doesn’t like pictures being taken of her, but Kai loves taking pictures of her. It’s because he finds her beautiful, of course, but he also thinks it’s cute how sometimes, she’ll let him take a photo of her because he asked, but she’ll look like an angry wet cat until the photo has been taken. Those photos are his favourites
Mark/Ingrid - Ingrid can always tell when all Mark had today was energy drinks at best. He can’t ever lie to her and doesn’t bother trying to
Diana/Ulysses - Ulysses likes brushing Diana’s hair, and she likes talking about her day while he does that
Damon/Kai - Damon usually makes bad first impressions on people, and he gets that from his parents. When he first met them, Kai genuinely thought they hated him, and he needed to work to get their approval like how he had to work to get Damon to even see him as a friend. He doesn’t listen when Damon tries to tell him that his parents actually do like Kai a lot, so Damon lets him do whatever he wants
The end :)
ingrid is specifically this kind of not woke
what i'm about to post isn't so much a well thought out, put together theory but throwing 6 dice on the floor and hoping two of them land on the same side. i get Funny Feelings when i think about Ingrid/pos (she's my second favorite) and what started this is remembering Damon upset at Ingrid for jumping to conclusions about his relationship with his parents. While searching for that (which I will get to in a moment), I found this
These are two of Ingrid's reactions to receiving gifts she hates. My first thought was "*gasp* was Ingrid spanked???" While you don't have to get spanked to disapprove of corporal punishment, it's just...more likely to me at least that she was given she used words like "lucky" (almost insinuating that she could've gone down that path but chose not to because she understands how being spanked feels) and the fact that she casually spoke of a whole town of adults being willing to beat on someone just because they received a gift they didn't like as if that's somehow normal (maybe this is hyperbole but for the sake of this whole post im gonna take it literally). If Ingrid was spanked as a child (or at the very least threatened to be spanked) then it certainly sours her comments about parental appreciation (which is what i was originally searching for also forgive my bad crops)
Coloring this interaction with the lens Ingrid has been spanked before, it gives the vibe Ingrid was punished into accepting the bare minimum (food, shelter, affection) from her family rather than being genuinely grateful and that any notion of displeasure towards certain behaviors (like for say rejecting pet names) counts as being unappreciative and that she in turn MUST pay it back. If you look at Ingrid's Echo and Imitation arts my girl is SUFFOCATING. To the question "who are you?" Ingrid is "an Obligation"
Because of "all the love in the world" Ingrid feels obligated to pay it all back. Obligated to take care of her siblings (aka parentification, a theme Ingrid clearly has going on given her current dynamic with Toshiko), obligated to run the business and take care of chores and put food on their plates, obligated to do SO MUCH that Ingrid states during the Laundry Room scenes that she hasn't had help in a really long time. Damon is even confused by why she would say that (i don't have a pic of that rn sorry). Speaking of preserving the traditions, Damon also picks up on how traditional Ingrid's family is (Btw traditional southern households are more likely to use corporal punishment as a form of child discipline than not) and how perhaps that level of rigidity has held her back (bc why would her siblings know how to sell things online but not her? maybe she was too busy with everything else how to learn? or was learning just not necessary to keep the way she's been selling her products this whole time?)
I just find it...kind of bleeghh that Ingrid's first reaction to helping improve the family business was feeling guilt. I get that traditions are important and a lot of people don't want to break them. I get feeling disappointment or anger or sadness about having to change the way you did something but guilt is just strange. But considering that in the family change is literally seen as a betrayal it would make sense why Ingrid would feel guilty. Because she's betraying the people she's obligated to. Because she's betraying the people who showed her "all the love in the world" its....not a pleasant feeling. And, if Ingrid was spanked, it would only make these feelings worse because if she was punished for not being appreciative then...how would her folks feel about betrayal? What would they do? I suppose in the end they relented to Ingrid's and her sibling's ways otherwise she wouldn't have become an Ultimate but that must've been a terrifying conversation. Side Note: Why didn't Ingrid mention her parents at all outside of Damon asking if they were blacksmiths and why didn't they look to sell online? If Ingrid is so appreciative of her folks wouldn't she gush more about their hard work running the business before her? Anywho this is getting pretty long and I never had a point to begin with so I'll try to wrap this up as concisely as possible. Bearing ALL of what I said in mind it would make sense why Ingrid jumped to conclusions about Damon's supposed lack of appreciation for his parents. She isn't necessarily projecting onto him but her understanding of what it means to be appreciative looks totally different than his. Her expression of appreciation is fully outward while Damon's is inward (listening to his grandma's stories, always wearing the handmade cardigan, fervently studying for debate competitions to win prize money). She sees Damon rejecting her pet names, not wanting to talk about what his parents call him and translates it to him being unappreciative and thinking about himself because its the exact opposite of what she'd learned truly showing appreciation means.
I love you Ingrid you're so underrated please don't die next chapter
everything i see about ingrid and toshiko (really just ingrid in general) is that ingrid is more or less toshiko's protector/mother/older sister and although they're the best of friends in ch2 ingrid will murder someone to protect toshiko and die. or someone will try to kill toshiko and ingrid sacrifices herself and she dies. or toshiko breaks a rule and ingrid dies in her place. and like, this is a good theory and i'm not bashing it at all but this is all i see about them and i need something else
give me ingrid failing to protect toshiko and having to deal with the aftermath. give me more depth in their relationship than older sister/younger sister: more about toshiko trying so hard to look mature only to not be taken seriously and forced to have ingrid watch over her all the time. more about ingrid who looks big and strong but is still so young, only a month older than diana, yet still carrying the obligation to protect toshiko with her life if necessary. what about potentially both of them secretly wanting to be like the other - toshiko, wanting to be taken seriously and respected and relied on even at a young age, and ingrid wanting to be seen as just a kid for once, protected for once, instead of being the protector all the time?
what about blackened toshiko taking advantage of their dynamic to try and get away with murder because nobody thinks she'll be capable of doing something like that? what about blackened toshiko feeling sick of being treated like a child and ending up biting off more than she can chew just to try and protect everyone else? please give me something else than ch2 ingrid victim sacrifice for toshiko's character development i BEG you
damon is such a perfect character for my tastes specifically. he was ostracized as a child for simply being different from people. he's smothering any caring feelings he has for people because he's actually suffocating from loneliness but every time he gets close to people he loses them. he puts up the facade of a debater that doesnt care for other people's feelings and only says the truth because he had to fit into this role to survive. he's damon maitsu, the ultimate debater, who has blond hair and a terrible personality and endless ambition, nothing more.
guys, he works better alone. dont look to hard at how much he lies to himself about what he thinks and feels about other people. dont look at how much he thinks about eva and what she must think of him. he works better alone.
18 year facade
one without the hands.
