The latest studio album from one of the greatest creatives in not just rap, but music. Softly chronicling recent battles with the press and mental illness, there’s a noticeable sonic shift. Production handled by the man himself isn’t groundbreaking like some past records, but still modern and current, with some creative sampling. To me, a pretty big Kanye fan, it’s an enjoyable record front to back.

Slow and building, extremely atmospheric black metal. The mix is very muddy, with the guitars, bass and vocals generally lost under a synth which is much higher in the mix. Vocals arrive infrequently. It’s a good record, but there aren’t really any standout or memorable moments. I enjoyed Pillars I much more. I’d recommend this as background music while you work or clean though.

Blind Guardian - Nightfall In Middle-Earth

Few bands possess such an innate ability to transport the listener to another world. 1998’s Nightfall In Middle-Earth is widely seen as Blind Guardian’s best work and a high watermark for the power metal genre. A concept album based on Tolkien’s The Silmarillion, this masterpiece clocks in at over an hour and contains spoken interludes, a folk passage, incredible musicianship and absolute top-notch vocals.
