A Huge Update - Event Invites!

Today we rolled out one of our biggest updates to Carpe yet, and we are excited to finally be able to show off something we have been working on for a while: event invites! Event invites allow you to invite other users to your events, whether it’s a party you are hosting, a lunch with friends, or more!

To get started, click the “Invite People” button on the bottom of the event editing screen:

From there, you can search for users to invite, like so:

Once you’ve invited everyone, you can see your guests on this screen at any time!

This is only the start of our event invites functionality for Carpe, and we’re going to be working on tons of improvements to make it easier to use and more helpful. Try it out, and let us know what you think via the Carpe feedback form!

One More Thing

We also recently rolled out email confirmation to Carpe, so we can make sure all accounts actually belong to real people! If you were a Carpe user before today, you should have received an email to confirm your account. Missed the email? Don’t worry, you can re-send the email confirmation at any time here!

This blog isn’t just for developers anymore!

The Carpe dev blog has been a place for us to talk about some of the architecture and technology choices that go into making Carpe, but it also was a place where we announced updates and features for everyone to see. As we continue into 2019 and focus more on using this blog as a central place for Carpe announcements, it just didn’t make sense to keep calling this a development blog. This blog is really for everyone!

That doesn’t mean any of the fun technical content is going away, but if you are looking to keep an eye out for the new features coming to Carpe, then this is going to be the place to be. You might also notice that our URL and name has changed to reflect this; we’ll be at blog.carpe.us from here on out.

Carpe Monthly View Upgrades

Coming with our next major update, we’ve upgraded Carpe’s monthly view to be more than just a nice way to look at your schedule. You will soon be able to make new events right in the monthly view, just like in weekly view! You will also be able to drag events between days in monthly view, delete them, or edit them using the event overlay.

We’ll be rolling this feature out with our Alpha II update, so make sure to follow us on Facebook and Twitter if you want to keep up to date with our public releases!

Alpha improvements have been published!

We hope you’re enjoying Carpe Alpha!

Our development team has already started making progress on the new features that will be coming with our next major release down the road, but for right now, we’ve published a couple small changes to make using the current version of the app better.

Our monthly view now shows days of the week at the top, our activity panel has been improved with more information about the profiles you follow, and text field highlighting has been adjusted to make editing more natural. Try it out live on the site right now!

It’s time. We are very proud to show you the first full version of Carpe.

Carpe is a personal scheduler, but it’s also so much more, with social and professional relationships built right into its fabric, advanced features for coordinating events, and a beautiful interface for you to enjoy.

Don’t worry about time zones; we’ve got you covered. The most recent update to Carpe included a comprehensive reorganization of how we store time zone data, and now you will always have the correct information about your friends’ events displayed in reference to your local time, even if they’re on the other side of the world.

This change is part of a whole slew of upgrades coming to our time zone settings soon, so be sure to use Carpe and tell us what features you want to see.

Taming autosave and conserving your precious computing resources

Hey Carpe users!

You may have noticed over the last few weeks that the addition of autosave functionality to your calendar slowed down the app. That’s because we made it the function fire pretty much any time you did anything on your schedule, and we’ve taken a much smarter approach in our most recent update to the app. Everything should be smooth and snappy now!

Good news! We’ve officially moved into the 2010s, and no longer require you to manually save your calendar events. All hail autosave.

Bug fixes galore

We’ve been hard at work stabilizing some of our most recent features based on feedback we’ve gotten from our earliest users (i.e. the friends-of-friends guinea pigs). In the last week, we’ve published fixes for a few different bugs.

First, we made sure that if you enter a nonsensical time like 99:99 for one of your events, you’ll now get a helpful warning rather than a display error. Next, we remedied an issue that some users were experiencing with their schedules’ color coding not saving properly. And finally, we changed a setting so that you are no longer prompted to save an event if you made no changes to it while the edit dialog was open.

The Followers Update

After a lot of work from our team, we’ve published a bunch of internal improvements and one big user-facing change: the Followers Update.

All of our old “friendships” have been converted into mutual followers, and this opens up all sorts of potential for the way relationships are structured on Carpe. Follow away!

We’ve added a new loading icon to our Save Events button, which indicates when saving is in progress. It’s one little change that makes it a whole lot easier to know when your calendar is up to date!

Enhanced event titles

On old versions of Carpe, events were only able to show one line of a title, which posed a problem when you were signed up to attend the annual European Symposium On Long Event Titles.

Titles can now be any length, and will display as best they can depending on the size of the event. See it all here!

Keyboard shortcuts have arrived!

We’ve been working on a major update to Carpe that’ll change user interaction drastically, but we wanted to keep giving you some smaller gifts in the meantime. Today, we added keyboard shortcuts to help make using Carpe even easier.
