I need to hear more about the Kindy/Martone thing. what's up with them

omg hii @0shark-yaps, Kindy/Martone (or Kintone as I have named them, but i'm taking suggestions) was born because my brain desperately needed a break from studying, but now i'm running with it
i'm a big kindy fan (i love that boy so much) and i saw some ppl editing him and ryan leonard (who i have a love-hate-relationship with (i once wrote you an anon about werewolf!leno)) so i decided i needed something better because there's a distinct lack of kindy in hrpf yaoi but i dont want it to be with THAT man. Martone just happened to be the first one I could think of that didn't create a weird agegap, him being a flyer is just a bonus (i am very intrigued by enemies/rivals-to-lovers)
(for the next part, please keep in mind that i don't know shit about hockey (working on it) and i live nowhere near canada and i am not immersed in hockey culture in general so all i can do is scour the internet for information)
now for what's up with them: not much, i fear. there's not a lot of crossover for them, as Kindy played in the WHL and Martone in the OHL so they never played against each other. Concerning national teams there's always a split between them (Martone being born in 06, Kindy in 07) so they never played on the same team, the only team they both were on was the 2024 CHL USA prospects challenge (Martone was captain; they played on different lines). During the draft, Kindy got up to congratulate Matthew Schaefer (they won the Hlinka Gretzky cup together in 2024) but not Martone. In the NHL they only played each other during the playoffs and they were part of a scrum(?) at the end of game 3. So they know (of) each other, but more as acquaintances than anything else.
but the beautiful thing about rpf is that i can make stuff up (i first have to learn more about the flyers tho (the pens too but not as much)) because at the end of the day, everything is fictional :))
Kindy was born drafted into the perfect family team for a rivalry with a flyer I'm in awe at the genius of this aspect. (The only Kindy fic I've read was with Sid. While I love a rookie/mentor thing, everyone shipped with Sid needs their own age appropriate guy too (except Geno love you Geno))
Little baby rookie Kindy isn't taken seriously enough day to day by all his pens dads so he wanders off and finds a fucking flyer. DUDE. There's sooo much at play with that alone. Does Kindy sneak away to meet up with this guy and come back smelling like Flyer? I'm not saying Sidcros would develop superhuman senses on the basis of hating a team that much but... He definitely could
Kindy is doted on so much as the baby, maybe he wants someone to push him around a little. Rivals to lovers is always the way to go, completely skip friends or neutral territory. Hate fucking until they spend enough time around each other that everything softens and deep familiarity takes hold. Delicious!!

I am a big fan of a soulmate/true mate/whatever situation where it's just "Ben Kindel and the mortifying ordeal of telling Sidney Crosby that your (soul)mate is a Flyer." It only gets better because Sidney Crosby was Martone's favourite player growing up and now SidCros hates him with a burning passion because Marty is not only a Flyer but also DEFILING HIS ROOKIE.
I feel like Kintone hooked up at the 2024 prospects challenge because they won both games and probably celebrated afterwards (with a lot of alcohol) but Marty blacked out so he doesn't really remember anything and Kindy is kind of hurt because he just gets ignored? it's not like he wanted to talk it out, but still?? So he just starts to hate Marty, which is easy considering they don't see each other and only gets easier after the draft because it doesn't seem all that weird for a Penguin to hate the Flyers openly.
At some point, one of the vets (not SidCros) takes him aside and tells him that the Flyers-hate is appreciated, but that he doesn't have to keep going with it just for SidCros' approval. Kindy's just like: But i hate them for real? And the vet's like: Ok, you do you, i guess...
Kindy gets himself "lost" by the others when they go out because he feels weird picking up in front of them (because they are old and he hasn't really told anyone that he's queer). He does the same after game 3 in Philly and (coincidentally) meets Marty and they hook up again (gotta keep going and all) and continue to do so (all hate-fucking ofc).
It's important to say that Marty, per se, did not have a problem with Kindy other than him being a Penguin pre game 3 (because he does not remember hooking up) but he sure does now
