MUSIC. Music in the 5580s is more of a collection of recycled noise & samples. If non-sentient technology is lucky enough to survive or be recreated, it’s deeply warbled. Any lyrics would be spoken, nonrhythmic, direct communication. Very few in the Ruins of NYC even care to engage with music in general, regardless of how much they (are able to) recognize the noise as an art form compared to any outdoor ambience — the Punk Frogs & Mondo Gecko are an exception, utilizing ‘music’ & noise as a purposeful trademark for visibility.

I’m particularly partial to Phyllomedusa as a close representation LOO has for created music: (NOISE WARNING)

As for modern music tastes, I like to think Raph would like horrorcore (City Morgue, $uicideboy$, Backxwash) and Casey & Mondo would bond over goregrind & slam DM (FROG MALLET, Devourment, Cattle Decapitation). Leo would also listen to Gojira lol.

ENTERTAINMENT. Books are non-existent with a complete lack of literacy worldwide. Information is spread via word of mouth and reliance on remembering — mainly passed onto groups as one-on-one communication is strongly discouraged for overall survival.

Similar to music, games aren’t exactly traditional in a modern sense and have evolved over time. Everything is practical. For the turtles, a game could be who runs into the wall the hardest LMAO. For Casey, a hockey-like sport was passed down from her father (though this sport was also a test of agility & survival).

As many animals have the capacity for play, it is not uncommon for megafauna & living structures to sway around each other as self-entertainment.

FAMILY STORIES. History & narratives are a sore subject for Splinter even when he is able to remember, though I imagine he has passed on bedtime stories for the turtles at any age. Mainly he recalls positive and/or calming moments in the present — Splinter relies strongly on tangibility. Props are a plus #playing with my touys.

As the turtles age & get more rebellious, most story times go like this:

“Yes, Dad, we were there too.” “Yes, but here’s what happened again!😁”
