Why wouldn’t I want to get to know you? Shouldn’t you be convincing me that your a nice guy and that you could be worth to get to know?
I am a nice guy, and I could be worth getting to know. That doesn’t mean that you’d want to.
Oh?
Yep. The people of said religion are pissing me off.
“Why? Did you say something you regret?”
“No. It’s being affiliated with these people that I regret.”
Well… Mormons are also Christian.
Well, yeah. I know. I just meant that I’m in a different branch of Christianity. I’m non-denominational.
You would not be the first to say that but I’m just not a person you would want to know, Carter.
I’m probably not someone you’d want to know, either. So what?
“I’ve been hiding my used to be religion for years now. It’s a shame some religions can’t be like the others.”
“What’s sad is that I was raised in the religion that says we’re supposed to love everyone, and yet the majority of them - that I’ve seen - are spewing a ton of hatred.”
Eh, as long as you’re not shoving any religion down anyone’s throat, it shouldn’t be a problem!
It’s not me. It’s the other religious people that are, and it reflects badly on the rest of us that don’t.
Oh, c’mon, it’s okay! As long as you’re not using religion to justify any sort of violence or oppression!
No, not at all. It’s everyone else in the religion that seems to be doing it.
“I understand. It can be difficult to separate parent from child and such similar relationships. But this generation, I think – because what we do is so public nowadays, I think that it is easier for people to see what it is that we truly think and believe in. I don’t believe that people who know you even in passing would believe that you agree with your parents, regardless of who they are, unless you stood idly by and said nothing at all. We are people more open to change, I think, the cognizance of people as changing entities.”
“What’s funny is my parents are for equal rights. They are happy about the Supreme Court’s vote. But, they can’t say that or they’ll lose their jobs. But, I don’t have a job that’s jeopardized by my belief. So, I can say whatever I want. Unfortunately that doesn’t keep the ignorant drama queens away.”
Are you Mormon?! Did people ask if you had multiple wives?
People are rude.
No. I’m a Christian. I’m almost sure I would rather people have done that. It’s the other Christians that I’m ashamed of.
“Every religion has some sort of shame behind it. You would hardly be the first one to be reluctant to share it.”
“Very true. I think what makes it worse is that my parents are who they are. If they weren’t so well-known among the Christian community, I don’t think people would care as much about my belief on it. I’m just holding on to the fact that I know I’m right. They’re wrong.”
“Don’t think I’ll ever be telling anyone else what religion I was raised in after today.”
@heyjude: fuck them, okay. like we are happy, let us /be/ happy.
@carterranlikeahh: @heyjude Exactly!
Oh, that’s cool, a born and raised New Yorker.
Yeah. I love it.
“Besides work and unpacking? I went and saw a Broadway show. That was fun. What about you?”
“Oh, what show? That sounds very fun. I haven’t done much but unpack, like you. I’m going back into the studio tomorrow, so I’m excited about that.”
Oh, well that’s something I didn’t expect.
Why not? I’m sure a lot of people want to get to know you.
