Jed put his book down again as he looked up at Carter. “I guess you are.” Jed said as he ran his eyes over Carter before he looked back down at his book. He tapped his fingers gently on the cover as he tried to ignore Carter looking him.
Carter had to hand it to the boy. He certainly had stubbornness in spades. “Really? It must be an epidemic, since I’m sure if you weren’t hiding in here your friends would see it to.” He sighed as he sat down straddling one of the chairs.
“That definitely makes you a dealer.” Dylan chuckled, nodding his head. He laughed as Carter’s expression changed and then looked in the box at the rest of the kittens. “Business must be booming.”
Dylan followed Carter’s gaze down to his tie. “Don’t let the tie fool you. I’m usually terrible when it comes to studying, but a lot has been going on lately and I’ve fallen behind so I’m working on catching up, with little success so far.”
“Well, I guess I’m a horrible role model. A professor with a side job as a dealer, but at least I’m successful.” Carter’s expression softened in understanding. “Ah right. It’s usually hard to keep up with one’s regular routine with bombshells like that. I’m glad you seem to be getting a handle on things, but if you’re having trouble perhaps a tutor might help?”
returning home || Mason and Carter
Mason shifted back on the desk before he crossed his legs. “You trust me alone?” Mason asked as he laughed softly before he nodded his head as he leaned his head back slightly. “But I guess, I could distract you from the horrible paperwork they force upon.”
“Well I’m hoping there would be a good pot of tea there too. Tea is serious business.” Carter nodded in mock solemnity as he fell into his chair. He grimaced thinking about the pile of paperwork he needed to file. “The true evil of the world, and they want it in triplicate.”
Jed shrugged a little as he picked up his book and flicked it open. “Must be hearing things.” Jed said softly as he glanced at Carter and smiled slightly as he watched Carter walking towards him. He sighed as he looked back his book and tried to focus on his book.
Carter hummed thoughtfully as he pulled up besides the desk. “I suppose I’m seeing things as well?” He asked, gesturing at his face. This close there was no mistake the bruises darkening his skin.
“I can think of worse things to do than owning kittens, like developing a meth addiction.” Dylan said with a slight shrug of his shoulders before letting out a gentle laugh. “Here’s hoping he’s super well behaved,” he nodded, looking down at his new kitten, “stay away from hard drugs, little fella, or I’ll have to ground you.” Dylan laughed at the kitten dangling from Carter’s sleeve. “It’s been a welcome distraction, really. I’ve done nothing but study for days.”
He snorted, “Yeah a meth addiction definitely counts as much worst. Then I guess I wholly support this kitten addiction instead. Does this make me a dealer?” Carter tried to put on a more shifty expression and gestured at the box of mewling kittens. “I brought the ‘goods.’” He whispered dramatically and snickered.
“Ah see you already got it. No need for practice parenting.” At Dylan’s comment Carter couldn’t help glancing at his house tie. “Hmm? That doesn’t seem to surprise me much.”
returning home || Mason and Carter
“Could you make them play fetch, I mean it would be funny.” Mason said with a smiled as he made his way back to the desk and sat back on it. He ran a hand through his hair slightly. “Kind ingrained in my brain Carter, so I will probably never stop considering myself as an annoying presence.” Mason said as he shrugged a little.
“It is. I can be very persuasive when I want to be I think.” He said and raised an eyebrow. Mason seemed very fond of his perch on his desk. “Ah? We’ll train you somewhat maybe. How about you make yourself a fond annoying presence and join me for some tea during my office hours. I certainly could probably need some distraction for the times I need to actually complete paperwork.”
“Good thing I only have like three pair of boots then.” Gabriel said as he smiled slightly as he looked back up too Carter. “Or getting stuck somewhere stupid, just so I can try and fish it out from its silly hiding spot.”
“Thanks Carter.”
“And I’m sure Jet will claimed each and every one of them as hers. You already sound exasperated at her.” Carter pointed out, nobly ignoring the kitten who gotten bored and was trying to get into his robe pockets.
He nodded, “Just send me an owl for a time later.”
“As far as what I could see, that section hadn’t been taken over.” Jed said as he watched Carter before he closed his book and ran a hand through his hair slightly. “What, what?” Jed asked as he bit his lip a little.
“Ok I know I must be ancient to your teenage perspective, but I can’t be mishearing things already.” Carter said uneasily and tried to force a laugh at himself. He studied Jed discreetly as he moved down the aisle of desks. “Like something about being number one at being beat up?”
“As much as this is going to make me sound like a brat, I’m in the position where I could get away with almost anything at the moment and I think two kittens would be a lot better than, like, murder or something.” Dylan joked, shaking his head. “Maybe one is enough. Three’s a crowd and all that, especially when it comes to doing frat boy things.” He agreed, nodding his head. “I’m definitely calling him Pizza. I’ll deal with the consequences later.” When the bag appeared, Dylan smiled. “Oh! Thank you. I’ll try and get there as soon as I can. Studying might just have to wait.”
“No murder is bad. I guess we should count ourselves lucky that your wild, depraved desires are just to own two kittens.” Carter mused, chuckling. “That phrase ‘so cute I could eat you up’ is suddenly coming to mind. Careful little Pizza could take after his sister here.” He lifted his arm where that one kitten was still trying to chew on Carter’s sleeve. “You know as a professor I’m sure I shouldn’t be enabling your procrastination of studying.”
Sailors warning || Jasper & Carter
“I need you to apparate me home.” He said, “I just… Something’s wrong. It has to be.” Jasper ran a hand through his hair, trying to calm down, he’d gotten himself worked up ont he jog over here. “Even if it’s not, I need to see her, see that she’s okay. The dreams… They seemed too real and they wont stop.” He said before he could stop himself, he’d never mentioned the nightmares to anyone before, he even silenced his curtains so his dorm mates didn’t know.
He glanced over at the Professor. “I probably sound crazy, I feel crazy but I just… I need to know that it’s just paraoia and not… something else.” He glanced down at his pajama bottoms, he’d never bothered to change into clothes. “Sorry to disturb you, I just…. We talked about me not apparating myself and the whole warning thing so…”
A feeling of unease curled through his chest looking over Jasper’s agitated state. His frantic desperation so stark that it would be impossible for Carter to dismiss as simple nightmares. “Take a deep breath, Jasper.” He placed his hands on the Ravenclaw’s shoulders and frowned when he felt the chill of his clothes. Jasper hadn’t just rolled out of bed with night terrors and gone straight here. Carter pulled his wand out summoning his own and conjuring a thick coat from thin air for Jasper. He draped it over the boy’s shoulders as he stepped out of his rooms.
“Don’t worry, Jasper. I was already awake and don’t apologize. I prefer if you asked for help.” Carter reassured, feeling more awake then he had a minute ago. He gestured for Jasper to follow as he set off at a brisk trot. “Come on we’ll go see your sister, and if nothing else you can just say you really wanted to have breakfast with her.”
Misunderstandings | Carter & Chryssie
<p>Chryssie grinned before feigning a neutral expression. “I hope you don’t have a fever. I’m feeling rather chilly, actually.” She looked at him, making no move to help him along or keep him going.</p>
His shirt hung open as he reached for her hand, and said with such an innocently earnest expression that it had to be fake, “I hope not, but a second opinion is always appreciated. Can you tell me if I feel a little warm to you?” Carter pressed her palm against the newly expose skin. “If you’re chilly I suppose I should share some of my body heat with you.”
Gabriel nodded his head as he watched Jet. “Yeah, maybe.” Gabriel said as he ran his hand over Jet’s back slowly. “So it will be like a little you, chasing after me all the time then.” Gabriel said with a laugh as he looked up at Carter.
“This weekend then, if that works with you.”
Carter chuckled, “I would have said my little fur minion, but a little mini me works too. Well, I would give it a couple of weeks before I call it chasing. More like this little one is going to stumble after you and try to sleep in your boots for awhile.”
“Yeah, this weekend works for me.”
returning home || Mason and Carter
Mason battered Carter’s away as he laughed slightly. “What more can happen, in my already fucked up life.” Mason said as he leaned back on the desk slightly. “Though of course, you are going to have less of me to deal with, so that will be good right.”
Carter gasped and playfully reached forward to shush him. “Oh no. Shh, shh, don’t say that. You’re likely to jinx yourself.” He crossed his arms and gave Mason a wry smile. “You really need to stop considering your presence as a annoyance, Mason, and it wouldn’t be good. I’ll get bored and lonely, and do something silly like make the first years play fetch with me or something.”
returning home || Mason and Carter
Mason shook his head a little, flicking his hair out of his eyes. “Because it probably was the better thing to do. but then again, you aren’t that kind of guy are you.” Mason said as he smiled as he sat on Carter’s desk. “You don’t have to worry about me, I am a big kid after all.”
“Perhaps logical and rules would have said it was the better thing to do? I guess I made a rash judgment call, believing that more negative repercussions would have smothered you.” Carter shrugged and then poked Mason on the forehead. “A big kid huh? We’ll see.”
“The librarian seems to have a lot on his mind, so the students are just kind of taking over.” Jed said as he shrugged a little before he leaned back in his seat slightly. “More like I am the number one for get beat up or whatever.” Jed said offhandedly as he picked his book again.
“Anarchy in the library? Now that’s a scary thought. As long as no one is releasing the curse books on the younger years.” Carter snorted and hopped off his desk once he finished sorting his pile. Jed’s comment was so offhand and dropped so casually he didn’t realize the meaning of his words at first. “Wait what?”
Misunderstandings | Carter & Chryssie
"I definitely liked it.” She said, smirking. “So I wouldn’t mind finding out first hand.” Chryssie looked up at him innocently. “You look a little red, Carter.” She noticed, undoing his top button. “Maybe you should eat more ice cream and cool down. She rolled away from him, lying on her side and looking at him.
He took a deep breath, frowning slightly ---he would never admit it was a pout. Chryssie was a tease, but then if she wanted to play it that way. Carter fought to keep his expression casual. “I guess I’m just a little hot, but I think I might have had too much ice cream.” He sat up and reaching a hand up to his shirt buttons. “But you seem to have the right idea perhaps I’ll just take a few layers off.” Then he slowly began finishing what Chryssie started.
“I still got memos from the school, but that is about all I allowed myself to get.” Gabriel said as he looked at Jet before he laughed and looked back at Carter and shook his head. “I don’t think Jet can keep me out trouble, if I can’t keep myself out of trouble.” Gabriel said as he smiled a little.
“You don’t have to come if you don’t want too. I don’t know how well its going to be after everything that has happened. But it would be nice to have someone there.”
“Perhaps now would be a good time to take off all your cloaking spells?” He suggested. “Just watch I’ll secretly train little Jet to give you little judgy looks every time you start to make bad decisions.” Carter nodded and scratched underneath the kitten’s chin.
“Hey, if you need me there then I’m going to be there. Remember I’ll be bringing the ice.”
