Anime-Only Guide to Hawks’s Quirk
Hello Boku no Hero Academia Anime Watchers! I wanted to make a guide that’s spoiler-free to how Hawks’s quirk works; or what you as watchers would probably know so far. Between pages and quick animation, sometimes the mechanics of a quirk get lost, so here’s a quick list of everything we know Hawks’s quirk (and maybe some of his features) can do.
His quirk is through the feathers, but it’s telekinetic control over them. Therefore it’s more like having a mutation and an additional telekinetic quirk.
He can control each feather with his mind. He, presumably has hundreds of feathers, at least.
Besides splitting his attention a hundred ways, let’s talk about the best and most important part of his quirk; Hawks can hear and feel vibrations through each feather. That at means at once he can feel and hear through each feather, and that’s happening hundreds of times through his mind, all the time. Furthermore, it’s clear his hearing is something wicked! He can hear heartbeats.
So…a super extended hearing and tactile. Hawks’s true ‘OPness’ lies in how he’s basically the ultimate sensor and how, despite having to deal with what seems like an extreme amount of over-stimulation and information overload, his reflexes are still that crazy. He’s extremely quick despite reacting to hundreds of different sounds and feelings at once.
His feathers can carry grown people! We’re not sure as to weight limits or whether small ones can’t do it or can’t go fast, but it’s clear he picked up heavy people with tiny ones, so that’s important.
He can reattach feathers after they leave his wings; they have to be fully destroyed for him not to be able to control them.
His feathers cut! And stab! He has two big ones (like primaries) that he uses as sword feathers to slash at enemies. There’s an implication that he can slice through metal; certainly he can cut through stone. The hardness might vary so he can potentially makes his feathers harder?
So, how fast is he? Hard to say. He only flaps to help contour in the air; his actual ability to fly is his telekinesis and you can see this in how he floats during the billboard. So there isn’t actual similar limits as birds might have to his speed since it’s brain/quirk power. We do know one speed ‘feat’ of his with actual numbers, but as viewers you’re not up to it and it’s an inaccurate of what he might be currently capable of.
And, not his quirk, but his pupils(and irises) change shape/size quite often, much like a bird does by adjusting their eyes. Sometimes he has little slits for his pupils.
As he said, he’s not a power-type, but Hawks is one of the most interesting characters in this manga for reasons less to do with his ability to fight and what else he can do with his quirk. But in terms of heroes who can save others, as he showed during this fight, within a minute he removed 70+ odd people from the part of the building that was to be destroyed. That sort of speed and ability to find and track people is one of the things that got him to the #2 hero spot!
