Okay tummy...are you gonna actually REBEL or can I go to fucking sleep??? Cause this little cat and mouse game inside my body is NOT fun and I'm fucking TIRED
whooooooooo is doing it like her???
okay but in all seriousness, here's the thing I love about season 10 Rowena: she's trying so hard to manipulate everybody around her and stir up trouble in Hell so that she can place herself in a position to maximize her influence and authority.
however, she's incredibly bad at it.
she's clumsy and obvious and a wildly over the top actress when she's putting on a performance, so transparent that Guthrie and everybody else can see right through her because she always tips her hand just a little too early and gives away her endgame. she's not good at this... and that's something that makes perfect sense once you start to get bits and pieces of her backstory!
she wasn't a noblewoman during the times when that would have been relevant. she didn't grow up learning how to play the game of politics, she didn't learn how to manipulate people in a way that gets you what you want but also preserves political ties. she's a tradesman's daughter who just happened to be born with an extraordinary talent, and when she stumbled into the Grand Coven's underworld, she was at the bottom of the political pyramid there, too. nearly every witch we meet who has any kind of real power is so disdainful of her, she's never been able to successfully cultivate influence anywhere.
and this is why her performance is the way it is. this is why the ritzy hotels and upscale restaurants and glittering floor-length gowns for daywear. this is why she finds out her misbegotten child is the king of hell and immediately scrambles to try and milk the connection for any scrap of influence she can garner, and reacts with so much hostility to anyone she thinks might get in the way of that and ends up giving the game away every time because she gets scared and starts to rush ahead to try and preserve her position. it's all an attempt to put on a show, like if she plays the role long enough and hard enough, she'll actually become the mask she wears in reality and not have to try so hard for it anymore.
when I say Rowena is one of the best-developed female characters in modern television I am not fucking kidding
imagine you work at a luxury car dealership. two college kids show up in a shitty rental car one day. one is has facial tattoos and the haughty attitude of a famous person. the other is a dead-faced goth the size of an elf. tattoo boy says they’re here to buy so you humor them and show some cars. elf man doesn’t say a word the whole time but clearly is calling the shots. he points at a Maserati and says he’ll be paying for the whole thing, no financing necessary. then he goes back over to the rental car, where evidently there has been a whole person asleep in the backseat the entire time. this man is about the same height as the goth pixie and dressed like a homeless person. he listens to the goth say something, pulls out several wads of cash, hands them over and goes back to sleep. your boss spends the next hour walking these freaks through the paperwork while you count through what turns out to be nearly 100k in cold hard cash. no one explains a goddamn thing and they leave with the nicest car on the lot
Now that everyone's over The Odyssey can we please just sit back and watch the only adaptation that matters, the Coen Brothers' 2000 perfectionist classic O Brother, Where Art Thou?
EVERYONE. GET MORE IN LOVE WITH YOUR FRIENDS NOW. FRIENDSHIP IS ALL WE HAVE ON THIS MISERABLE BALL OF DIRT FLOATING THROUGH SPACE. TELL YOUR FRIENDS YOU LOVE THEM!!!!!
being a woman isn't a feminist action btw
being a lesbian isn't a feminist action either. It's just a thing
There is nothing inherently evil or wrong about how masculine or feminine you are and I wish people would stop acting like one is better than the other. The way you act and speak as a person says more about what kind of person you are than your gender presentation. There is plenty of people capable of being horrible people and there are plenty of people that are capable of being good people. It's a choice, gender has nothing to do with it.
big tshirt that says MY INTERPRETATIONS MUST HAVE A STRONG BASIS IN THE SOURCE MATERIAL on the front and THIS IS FUN TO ME on the back
Destiel was canon to me well before the 15x18 homoerotic confession of love, before the fix it fics, before the ‘rogue’ translator. Destiel was there in the subtext and the text. But would I have liked to see them go from profound bond to profoundly boning. Hell ya brother

SPN TEXT POST, THE, "DEAN IS SUPER GAY ✨(BI)✨ EDITION....
no ok. sorry. much of supernatural is depressing and fucked up but not for the reasons the writers think it is or not only for the reasons they intended. and im a big fan of stories about characters who are aware they are trapped in a narrative but usually they are able to escape or at least are Hopeful for escape. but in supernatural there is no escape. they just get eaten by the narrative. and the THING. is that i don’t know if the writers can even conceptualize what escaping the narrative might look like aside from “We Stop Telling The Story.” death isn’t escape. a nuclear family til death isn’t escape. like even when i remove all the unseen and deleted and unaired and edited factors from the finale it is nothing. it’s not catharsis it’s not closure!! it’s farcical!!! because they wrote themselves into a corner they weren’t willing to deconstruct so they just gave up
and for my favorite character: failed suicide attempt and erectile dysfunction
how come they had sam see visions of the future where he sees that dean will give up when it comes to losing cas while juxtaposing this scene with dean losing cas in purgatory & crying on his knees about it to further establish that fact so then sam decides not to trap chuck cuz clearly dean’s hope for the future is tied to cas the same way his is tied to eileen, then 10 episodes later both cas and eileen are never seen again and barely mentioned after the brothers actually achieve freedom for their future.
And then they kill dean so he doesn’t even have a future LITERALLY WHAT WAS THE PURPOSE THEN, WHYD THEY DO ALL THAT
