The weak can never forgive. Forgiveness is the attribute of the strong.

“every day one should at least hear one little song, read one good poem, see one fine painting and — if at all possible — speak a few sensible words.”
The birth of responsibility and self-control happens when someone understands that there is no other time than Now. You will overcome your greatest difficulties in the present moment. Don’t cheat yourself by receding into the past in search of an explanation or by rushing into the future in search of an illusory hope.
[Personal Note: In this very brief clip Alan Watts talk about how to best overcome a drinking problem, but I think his short message contains some timeless wisdom about how to best establish a relationship with your highest ideal. It seems to me that those who wish to improve themselves often burden their efforts by imagining everything that is at stake; they begin to imagine how their entire lives stand to be improved by their actions in the present moment. They begin to think about every obstacle that stands between them and success in the present moment, the near future, the medium term future, the long term future—and some even start to agonise over how their past decisions led them to an undesired present. Why burden yourself this way? Why bear more than is necessary? As Watts often reminds us, there is only one moment in your life that you’ll ever have to truly grapple with: this one, the one you’re currently in. Make the best possible decision and take the best course of action in the present moment, and say nothing about the next. No one is asking you to live your entire life right now. This, of course, isn’t an invitation to completely disregard the future and to live recklessly in the present. It’s much more subtle than that. It’s more of an invitation to listen to the guiding voice within you that intuitively understands the best course of action. It’s an invitation to listen to that voice within you that has a kind of instinctive omniscience regarding your entire being. Learning to listen to this voice is essentially an exercise in trust, but, if done correctly, diligently, and consistently, it is one that unfolds much more elegantly, beautifully, and productively than if you had tried to improve EVERYTHING about your life right NOW.]
“Meeting you was unique. Nothing like you before. And nothing like you after.”
— Un Beau Soleil Intérieur (2017) dir. by Claire Denis
“Being must be felt.
It can‘t be thought.“
- Eckhart Tolle
You are trying to unify yourself, so you don‘t listen with your ears but with your heart (mind) ; you don‘t listen with your mind but with your spirit [ch‘i]. (Let) hearing stop with the ears, and the mind stop at thinking (or, at symbols). Then the spirit is a void embracing everything, and only the Tao includes the void. This void is the fasting of the heart (mind).
Chuang-tzu, translated by Alan Watts
There is nothing like returning to a place that remains unchanged to find the ways in which you yourself have altered.

“The wicked flee when none pursueth: but the righteous are bold as lion.”
- Proverbs 28:1
“Great power is worry, and total power is boredom, such that even God renounces it and pretends, instead, that he is people and fish and insects and plants: the myth of the king who goes wandering among his subjects in disguise.”
- Alan Watts, Wu-wei from “Tao: The Watercourse Way”
…take your lips and breathe life into me for I have not lived if I’ve not loved; I have nothing to hold me here.

“So this is my life. And I want you to know that I am both happy and sad and I’m still trying to figure out how that could be.”
