semi casual attempt bc i just continued my regular speedrun file, which was about 4h40 in, and tried getting everything else at my own pace, then i realized i hadn't kept track of anything (fleas, mask shards, spool fragments) and that i had to lock in and actually look up where everything else was lmao... percentage calculation is kinda weird in silksong so thank god for checklists

did anyone else have like. a Wildly incorrect interpretation of the silksong lore on their first run
bcs originally i kind of like. ignored the presence of gms entirely because i thought the monarch everyone was talking about was an amalgamation of silk that started the haunting because of the residual hatred of the weavers (who were clearly not super happy in pharloom, ie the cages in the cradle, widow, etc)
kind of like the unravelled but i didnt get the surgeon’s key on my blind playthrough until late act 3 so i had no idea that was already a thing somewhere else lmao (this was the case for 1st sinner as well)
in my head it was kinda like,,, the weavers either got to pharloom or were born there, and they used their silk to help further regular bug joe society, eventually establishing the citadel and all of its orders of bugs that all worshipped the weavers. but since they were the only ones who could naturally produce silk, the higher up bugs (conductors, vaultkeepers, surgeons, whoever) got reeeal power hungry and overthrew them by capturing them all and forcing them to produce silk/play their songs until they died, and then they went on to capture their descendants to use them for that as well, which led to them kidnapping hornet or wtv
eventually they even started trying to incorporate silk into themselves, and finally the weavers had had enough. they all somehow coalesced into a giant ball of agony and hatred and used that very same silk that ran all through pharloom’s society to drive them all mad, something something systems of oppression will always topple bc u can’t build a society out of it and expect it not to bite u in the ass big time eventually

An Actual Thing when lace mentions there’s a higher being atop the citadel and everything but in my defense my brain was trying to back up my working theory by ignoring all possible contradictory info lmao… when i got to the final boss i was like Wh. Who The Fuck Are You???

weavers were so mysterious back in hk, we only knew them through the remnants of their work, their contributions to the black egg seal and whatever imprint they left behind in deepnest, so its kinda funny that the first time we actually see one of them alive she’s just hissing and growling and throwing 26 bells per second at us lmao
and then you read the hunter’s journal entry and you’re like Oh. Well. maybe she was like that because of the Horrors yk… and then you meet first sinner and she’s even more feral (affectionate)
its cool how it kinda reflects how not… divine they are. even elevated, still common beasts. you’ll not hear a higher being’s graceful roar from their throats.
penitent, first of the first. guilty of a sin so grave her name is taken from her, for no mantle can describe her better than first sinner. even we have no other name to call her, no way to show kindness other than to bind her to a different shell.
widow, twisted and fanatical, devoted to her god, only after having her mask—her identity—destroyed, her silk pinned and useless, a weaver in nothing more than name, and even that is barely known. are her coverings the remnants of her own silk? bound and matted and useless, but still hers? or a random shawl stolen from bug, a cloaking so common for a being once so revered? …which is worse, really?
the idea of first sinner being the actual first being to devise rune weaving is… devastating, honestly. a prodigal daughter, her contributions to the art of weaving immeasurably great, stricken down for the sin of apostasy. your talents will not save you from your impudence.
and if widow really is one of the weavers that returned to pharloom after the radiance’s infection… man. like yes i get the weavers sealed gammy silk and she probably wasn’t super thrilled about that but… the sheer disdain she must have felt, to exert whatever twisted, misbegotten influence still dormant in her subjects, just to hunt down each and every last daughter, and all of theirs as well, for sinners of their ilk do not deserve the holy gift of silk, and each second they wield it is a slight too great to bear. imagine fleeing from every home you’ve ever known just to have every aspect of your identity destroyed and to be cast as a puppet, on strings you no longer have the power to control
my lore knowledge might not be 100% bc team cherry loves to be cryptic (affectionate) lol but these are just my thoughts from what i gathered, and ik weavers arent perfect innocent babies who never did anything wrong, but still, something about the contrast between the absolute cruelty shown to her first daughters and the determination she shows in saving lace, going so far as to destroy her own kingdom and giving up her life and silk… its just crazy man. and still, lace lived miserably in the shadow of her mothers love. don’t even get me started on phantom omg
