ever since i finished my first playthrough of fe4 i've kind of wanted to get my thoughts about it off my chest, so i decided to do so by making a minute long animation that ended up being so heavy i had to delete almost every other app from my ipad to finish it (64gb prison)
but man i did not know they were making fe stories like this back in the day... every fe fan will eventually come across the jugdral glaze but it really is kinda crazy how ham they went on this story, considering all the hardware limitations and how early on this was for fe as a series. i truly did not expect for the story to be as dark as it was, a prime example of that being deirdre's character.
a woman forced to live in isolation in fear of passing on her cursed heritage, as her mother lived before her. a meeting, a choice— perhaps the very first one she'd had the courage to follow through (but not one she was allowed to keep making in the long run). to live in such paralyzing fear of losing what she now held so dear, to the point of not wanting to leave sigurd's side for any period of time at all, only to be taken from her family and be stripped of everything, even her own identity. all to further plots for revenge hungry cultists and a man too blinded by his own ambition to realize what a pitiful position he truly held.
i wanted to represent the feeling of having given so much of yourself already it's impossible not to see it in the mirror, even if you can't recognize it for what it once was. would she see their shadows out of the corner of her eye on certain days? how long would that feeling linger?
i was so bummed to see that she was just killed offscreen to further arvis' descent, and i mean i get it, it is an old ass japanese game so i wasn't actually expecting them to have all that much grace for their female cast but still:/ we need to stone arvis to death i'm so serious. i'm not even all that mad at him for tricking grannvale's houses into killing each other to get the throne since... well, it'd be strange to be mad at a character for being a war criminal in the War Criminal Game Series TM, but everything he does in regards to deirdre makes me want to curbstomp his ass. im not sure if it's ever stated that he knew of their.......relation to each other (i think he didn't????) but the way he tried to keep her like a possession (like bum father like bum son) and how he paraded her in front of sigurd at the end regardless of the harm or distress that might cause her (thats her ACTUAL HUSBAND you're KILLING in FRONT OF HER) and how he had the audacity to be sad for the death he very much led her to, albeit unintentionally, AND TO STILL HAVE THE GALL TO GET SNIPPY WITH SELIPH ONCE HE COMES KILL HIS ASS????? he pissed me off so fucking bad man i didn't even feel bad for him cause that's your own damn fault for being stupid enough to think you could outsmart the ALMOST THOUSAND YEAR OLD CULT that basically orchestrated your own rise to power with their continent wide network you stupid fucking moron😭😭😭😭and yes i know he has #traumas that made him that way but he pmo regardless. okay hate rant over i kinda had to make it clear how much arvis made me wanna chew my way through a brick wall
the total lack of autonomy is what gets me the most about deirdre:( the ONE thing she chose for herself, the ONE thing she wanted so badly she risked "unleashing a curse"; one that wouldn't have come into fruition had it not been for the very people that took that choice from her. that took her from her baby... only to be used like that in the end. she deserved so much fucking better man.
i think his thought process would initially be smth like this lmao, like he already hates flowery’s poser ass in canon, imagine how much more contempt he’d have for him if flowery was deploying the babytrapping guilt strats (to the surprise of… only ralsei, it seems, they don’t work in the slightest)
but… what chance did a weak flower ever really have? even two of them don’t seem to make much of a difference at all…

Some questions if you've thought about it... How would Jarona appear in the light world? How does the color gang's whole staying in the dark world even if it kills them plan be altered by Jarona? How would Jarona be present in the narrative both literally and metaphorically? Ok but what are Kris and Ralsei's (and the other characters) actual reactions?
ill be fr anon my au was born from the need to fuck with a friend of mine so i did not originally put much thought into how it even came to be lmaoo
after thinking about it i think a more in game explanation would be something like this…
i’m not anything remotely close to a botanist, and i’m not even sure if there’s an answer to what kinda flowers the 7 are supposed to be (not a lot of flowers that produce such varied colorings and allat…) aside from being similar to UT’s golden flowers, so i’m kinda just assuming flowery Can grow a separate stem and it Can be used as a cutting for a new plant.
but considering how long he’s been kept alive it does seem like it would be kinda weird for flowery to suddenly grow like that, so i think it ends up making asgore a bit sentimental… even like this, his old friend still lives, still grows. it’s hard evidence of his work, his care, his love— he can still make things bloom! if only he could show his family that….
so he uses that stem as a cutting, thinking all the while how maybe his old friend could have one of his own (and not fuck it up or wtv😭he might be projecting a lil), and flowery, in whatever capacity he has as a plant, accepts that earnest hope for the future… so jarona is born! she’s a lil plant of her own when the DW is made, and she shows up like a lil baby
(i tried thinking up a more dramatic scenario where she’s born cuz they fuck nasty(big regret for asgore), but the DW timeframe is so short i kinda couldn’t come up with anything that didn’t feel contrived af lmao. flash pregnancies and all that. but imagine they close the second fountain and along the code and the seeds they find a baby………..plants aren’t technically darkners so….)
i think the flowers would still be mostly on board with the original plan of living to their fullest, and flowery specifically clings even harder to the dream of staying in the DW so he can stay alongside his baby, even when he knows it’s impossible:( like in canon, he always knew he had no power to meaningfully change things, but tried to cherish their dream while it lasted. i think though, that in the end, he wouldn’t have wanted for them to stay in the DW till they died like in canon, since jarona is so young it wouldn’t be fair to cut her life so short for such a selfish dream (or maybe he would, for just a second, but i dont think the flowers would be on board atp). he doesn’t ever really express that though, cuz he knew the fountain would get closed anyways. the flowers all know this too, so they act pretty close to canon (but sometimes taking care of a baby flower), but i think blue would be very attached to her as well. do NOT leave her alone with aqua she did NOT listen when asgore read them a parenting book in tears!!
tbh i do think kris and ralsei would be pretty freaked, kris cause thats their DAD what do you MEAN he’s not knocking up flowers like he doesn’t already have an estranged family😭 and ralsei cause damn bro not the delusional flower guy trying to babytrap a lightner to get him to stay…. susie would 100% assume asgore fucked the flowerman but she wouldn’t really care tbh. baby’s cute, right kr- oh. Oh Yeah. 👀uhhhhhhhh

before anyone comes for me i would like to clarify that i do not think rhea is the devil incarnate💆♀️crimson flower was just my first route and while that definitely affected how i saw her on the other routes i am not a man and therefore i’m not incapable of critical thought 💭 (/j) i think she’s a very interesting and flawed character and i really like how she hates edelgard so much despite all of the parallels they share. with all of that said, here’s to another 3 years of 3h discourse. yippie!!!!
