– The Empress Murders by Toby Schmitz
Cloître de Saint-Sauveur (Aix Cathedral cloister) in Aix-en-Provence, France. It is a serene Romanesque cloister dating back to the 12th century.
A remarkable detail from the late-12th-century Romanesque cloister of Saint-Sauveur Cathedral in Aix-en-Provence, France. This twisted corner support turns solid stone into something almost fluid, showing how Romanesque carving could be both structural and deeply expressive.

it’s scary but you have to
let people love you
accept help
do the hard thing and do it scared
let your growth be slow
basically the best thing any character can do is decide they don't want to be afraid anymore - in fact they never want to be afraid of anything ever again - and take action so drastic they fail to realise that this too is a decision motivated by fear. or to account for the Consequences of that.

I haven't seen anyone mention this yet, but I really do appreciate that Grace uses basic diy shit to solve complex problems despite having fancy tech/expensive equipment at his disposal the majority of the time (sans computer and biology equipment).
Going to Home Depot and using basic hardware tools to experiment with the astrophage despite having an internationally funded research lab. Bungee cords to navigate through the Mary in 0 g. Duct taping the shit out of individual bulbs for a flashlight despite there most likely being a better technical solution. Putting tape on the clock for Rocky's echolocation instead of using any initial tech.
There's a lot that can be analyzed from this alone, but what I love the most is its depiction of science. You don't need the biggest resources or fancy locations to solve problems and make discoveries: just curiosity, determination, and a lot of fuckin duct tape
Some moody Project Hail Mary sketches since I wanted to mix it up in between my silly sketches
the world is counting on you
[ID: An illustration of Ryland Grace from the Project Hail Mary film adaptation. He’s in side view, wearing the mustard-yellow overall, looking at a glowing crocheted earth hovering over his hand. A warm light shines over him. Behind him is the Hail Mary spacecraft. The background is outer space, filled with stars. END ID]
Do you think Rocky knows what a puppet is and there’s somehow a direct translation for puppet show in Eridian or do you think Grace just thought it’d be funnier to put puppet show instead of visual demonstration in the translator
Thinking about Ryland wearing his white cardigan when he begs to continue researching Astrophage for his kids’ sake.
Ryland wearing a white shirt hidden under his yellow raincoat as he tells Stratt no. Stratt wearing white only once, as she forces him to go.
Ryland wearing a white flight suit as he is carted onto the mission against his will. Ryland wearing that same white flight suit when he willingly turns around for Rocky.
Ryland, still in his coward’s yellow in the don’t go crazy room, catching a glimpse of his future self on Erid in all-white.
Thinking about how white is the color of bravery.
