On the first day of first grade Rhett sits down to a kid with a haircut Rhett’ll call the Cindy later in life. When Miss Locklear calls Charlotte? during attendance there’s a pause long enough that Rhett joins the rest of the class in craning around to look for the girl before there’s a meek, it’s Link, from beside of him.

When Rhett asks about it during recess, when they’re both held in for writing cursewords on their desks, Link pauses in coloring to look over at Rhett with a thunderous frown.

I’m a boy, Link says. 

Rhett doesn’t think Charlotte is a boy’s name, but Link had corrected Miss Locklear, so Rhett shrugs and tries half-heartedly to color within the lines.

After school, Rhett tells his parents about his new school and his new friends and the boy with the Cindy haircut. He doesn’t mention the cursewords. He doesn’t mention Link’s other name, either, because Rhett’d talked Link into asking his mom if Rhett could sleep over that weekend and he didn’t want to jeopardize their plans. 

Link’s room looks like any other room Rhett’s ever been in, and while his mom doesn’t call him Link she calls him Charlie, and by the time they’re back in school on Monday a six year old Rhett’s forgotten about the name that didn’t fit the boy he knew.

i cant speak for that particular job obviously but i wanna say that in general, ppl are very understanding of taking a day or so to respond to an email. it could be that you were considering other options, got busy or just forgot. if u feel it would make u more comfortable maybe just address it with a quick "apologies for the delayed response" before getting into it. good luck! im rooting for you 💖

Two writing tips I've gotten from various authors over the years (mostly on the NaNo site):

Never reread your entire work (or even big chunks of it) when sitting down to write. Only read the few sentences/paragraphs before. Otherwise you WILL be tempted to edit.

End in the middle of a sentence! Especially if you're planning on writing the next day. It helps me pick up right in the flow I left off.
