Noel Gallagher's High Flying Bisexuality
I feel like I will say something problematic right now, but I never thought speculating on someone's sexual orientation is a bad thing because I never thought that orientation could be bad or wrong. So when I discuss some celebrity's identity with my friends, it's me being noisy as fuck, and not me accusing them of something terrible.
In 2026, queer-community still needs their heroes, and in my opinion, one grumpy old school rocker being queer would be more meaningful than thousand TikTok influencers (no offense to them, of course).
Here you'll find speculations about certain British rock star's sexuality, list of facts from said British rock star's life, opinion of unimportant fan (me) about the importance of coming out in modern society and probably a lot of grammatical errors as I am not native speaker. You won't find here anything new if you're long time gcester.
I also want to say that even though I will be happy to find people who would like this post and agree with me, I don't care if other people would think I'm toxic and problematic for gossiping and speculating or if these people won't agree with me on this topic in general.
This is my blog and I'm authoritarian like the leader of my country.
Also, I stole the title from our fandom because it makes me laugh every time I see it.
Oasis music and Noel's solo songs are perhaps among the most obvious examples of music of working-class: ordinary, heterosexual, and perhaps slightly toxic men.
So would it be strange to assume that their icon - one of the greatest Britain's songwriter of today - isn't straight?
And if he really isn't straight, why doesn't he come out, it's 2026 after all, same-sex marriage is legal, and it's perfectly fine to be a boy-kisser?
Let's put aside for a moment the fact that coming out is completely not Noel's style and talk about the meaning of coming out in 2026.
The difference between any other person coming out and a celebrity coming out is like the difference between a toy hammer and a sledgehammer. It's wiser for celebrities to hide their sexuality; coming out exposes them to potential death threats, the tabloids are gonna follow their real lovers instead of their "beards," their past live is gonna be rummaged through, they will face a torrent of public criticism, and their careers could be ruined.
In a culture of forced heterosexuality, telling the truth means risking everything.
Yes, still.
But even when a person has made a loud, official announcement about their identity, this doesn't guarantee that people still won't view them through the prism of heterosexuality and heteronormativity.
Take Demi Lovato as an example:
This is one of thousands of examples of how stupid and blind heterosexuals can be. Demi Lovato came out as bisexual a few years ago and now doesn't even try to pretend she's heterosexual, but straight people still don't see anything.
They're so brainwashed by heteronormativity they only notice gays and lesbians who look stereotypical. Anyone who, in their opinion, "doesn't look gay/lesbian/etc" can't be queer and must "prove and/or confirm" it.
Straight people think queer people make their queerness their entire personality; just like many people think they've never seen anyone with good lip filler.
Because when you don't see it, you don't see it. You mistakenly believe that if you don't notice something, it doesn't exist.
"I don't have a problem with gays and lesbians as long as they don't shove their LGBTQ+ in my face."
You see, you have a problem with gays and lesbians, but you just think that anyone who doesn't shove their queerness in your face is straight by default.
The thing is, for these people, being gay or lesbian is a bad thing, and when other fans say that *insert celebrity name* is dating someone of the same gender, it sounds like an accusation of something terrible.
However, if the same situation happened with a heterosexual couple, it would be totally fine, and the fact that a man and a woman held hands or walked next to each other would be sufficient proof that they were in a relationship.
But if gcesters even hinted at Noel possibly having relationships with men (Clint, Paul or whoever), people would immediately freak out, or start screaming about "invading Noel's privacy," saying it's not okay to discuss someone's sexuality and that we should wait for an official statement.
So, shipping a woman with a man and theorizing that this man is heterosexual is okay because being heterosexual is a good thing.
Such fans don't even consider themselves homophobic, and they tend to react aggressively when gently pointed out that their behavior and words are homophobic. It's double standards they remain completely oblivious to.
Global culture still assumes celebrities are heterosexual by default until they explicitly admit otherwise.
Thus, when our culture imagines a celebrity coming out, it expects an Ellen-style announcement that will ignite their past like a Phoenix and resurrect them with a new identity.
In a perfect world, saying you prefer "to keep your options open," playfully hinting that you "may have done it already" when someone tells you to give a try being mlm like Freddie Mercury and asking not to be labeled as heterosexual would be sufficient.
But our current reality still expects to see a supernova.
These people don't understand that by reasoning this way, they reinforce the stigma and taboo surrounding the LGBT-community. They don't understand that by reasoning this way, they are building and reinforcing a system in which people simply refuse to believe someone can be anything other than heterosexual until they come out and verbally confirm that they are not.
They create a system in which LGBT people are forced to make their sexuality news and a source of discussion.
They create conditions in which celebrities feel as if the whole world is waiting for that Big Moment - their official coming out, so that fans can then pat themselves on the back for "accepting" someone of a different orientation. So that they can "forgive" that person for "hiding the truth" from them. So that they can condescendingly tell that person that there's "nothing wrong" with being different.
As if a person had no a priori right to be happy without the approval and forgiveness of their heterosexual fans.
As if the self-hatred imposed on queer people by straight people was the only reason for them to hide, and social rejection as well as the possibility of becoming a victim of a hate crime are nonexistent.
How can we explain to these people that just because same-sex marriage is legal now, it doesn't mean homophobia has disappeared and all homophobes have suddenly become tolerant and accepting?
How many of Noel's fans could be honest enough with themselves and admit that they wouldn't listen to his music if they knew he wasn't straight? How many fans would refuse to listen to his music if he openly confirmed he wasn't straight?
Because by all accounts, he did actually confirm his bisexuality at least three times. It's just that the general public is too heterosexual to understand queer signals and language.
Now let's take a look at all the available facts and speculations throughout the years of Noel's career.
First of all, we have rumors about his passionate gay sex outside Hacienda in the summer of 1989.
Beware of The Manchester Mauler.
Then the era of roadie Noel (1989-1992) when he (allegedly of course) had situationship with Clint Boon. Well, at least they look like they were real close friends.
And historians will call them close friends, bеsties, roommates, colleagues
Actually, Noel seems to be very comfortable when other men are in his personal space idk
Then the first real evidence strikes in December 1994 on Radio 1:
H (talking about Noel's bodyguard): There's rather large block following you around.
Noel: It's just me boyfriend.
[...]
H: So you're big time now?
Noel: Yeah, so my girlfriend tells me
H: Boyfriend and girlfriend then?
Noel: Well, you gotta keep your options open.
I mean, it's literally bi coming out.
This amazing post about Noel's suspicious reaction to George Michael coming out (even though I completely disagree with what he has to say about it).
Then we have another rumor in 1999 about Noel being caught with a male hooker in 1992.
Beautiful conversation about Noel's possibility of being gay in July 2006 with The RB Show:
Noel: If I was gay I would be proud.
[...]
Noel: I would be gayer than Freddy Mercury, that is a fact.
H: It'd be good. Perhaps you should give it a whirl, Noel.
Noel: Well, in a manner of speaking, I may have done already, you never know.
So here we have a confirmation that Noel is not gay, but he "may have done" something-something Freddie Mercury-style (I can't not mention that Freddie wasn't gay either. Bi-erasure 😡). Like it's bi coming out number two from Noel, but seems like it's still not good enough.
March 2008 - Noel on yet another Russel Brand Show:
Noel: Jason Rhodes. He's been my...
Russel: Boyfriend?
Noel: Oh I wish.
Nothing special. Just your local heterosexual man wishing another man would be his boyfriend 🤷♀️
June 2008 on the Russel Brand show another rare moment (which could mean nothing, of course):
Noel: My love of Oasis music put me in the closet. Slammed the door behind me.
I guess whatever closet he was put into, it doesn't have walls anymore.
2012 gave us this gem:
In 2015 in the interview with Rolling Stone Noel supported same-sex marriage:
If a man wants to marry another man, that’s up to you. If you both want to recognise each other and go through the fuckin’ pain of divorce, fuckin’ good, ’cause the rest of us do, so join the fuckin’ club.
Perhaps, the most known moment happend in 2020 on Matt Morgan's podcast:
Matt: But the annoying thing about this is, even though we’re talking from the heart, we just sound like a couple of old white dudes at a bus stop going ‘aahh, music sucks these days!’
Noel: Why didn’t you just say ‘two old dudes,’ why’d you have to say ‘two white dudes?’
Matt: Well, we’re more irrelevant by being white, straight, and older than middle-aged, right...
Noel: You... you speak for yourself on the straight thing, baby.
Actually on Matt's podcasts Noel tends to say amazing things that make people go 🤨
Like that time when Noel was asked what he would do if he was a shy parisian woman:
Matt: You are a young parisian woman in 1940s. You're shy and not exactly beautiful. But a handsome and bashful German takes a liking to you. Do you fraternize romantically with the invading foreigner or shun him entirely out of patriotic duty?
Noel: I'd do both.
Matt: How?
Noel: I'd have s... I'd have mad sex and then shun him.
Matt: So you'd risk..
Noel: Everything. To grass him up.
Matt: You'd grass him up?
Noel: After having sex with him yeah. I've done this before.
In 2021, Noel released a documentary film Back the Way We Came with a very interesting moment:
All of the songs are kind of still about the same couple who are still searching for something. I don't know why I'm kind of in a place to songwriting at the minute where the songs are very direct about a me and a you, or a him and a her, or him and him, you know, whatever.
Take a moment to appreciate this little word "still" as it reveals more meaning if you think deeper 😊
And finally the fact that he's favorite The Smiths songs are mlm songs:
Hand in Glove (mind you, in Noel's words "the most romantic song")
These Things Take Time
This Charming Man
So as I see it - Noel Gallagher is openly bisexual and there's just no other way around whether you like it or not 😉
