Why does the "real world" version of Marinus look so different from the "Isekai Maid" version of Marinus? (different skin tone, facial hair)
He actually used to look a lot like Marinus when he was little. He was pale and had brown hair. But his skin naturally became more brown as he got older and his hair darkened.
He more resembles Seasalt than Marinus. But the reason for the huge difference is how "close" he is to his original version, which Isekai Maid's Marinus is pretty far in personality and demeanor.
Is there any significance in the story that in Bridgette's current life where she has purple eyes and had the same purple eyes in her first life?
Purple is the color of Bridgette's other self's phone case/phone color. It signifies that she has a some level of awareness that she is in a fictional world. Her other self reads a majority of the rofan/Otome Isekai stories from her phone. So I guess you could say her phone is her "eyes."
Just want you to let you know your webcomic got me to draw more again. ♡ Thank you.
That's awesome! I'm so happy that my webcomic was able to help you in drawing again :D
Hey, what was the era of that villainess manhwa that Anne-Maria was in? It's a style i've seen plenty of times, specifically with the detail of the pointy hat with the ribbon, i think I might have seen similar stylings in the early Shrek-verse, it's definitely medieval but I can't really put the exact name or year to it
The fashion is based on the Medieval period Illuminated Manuscripts from the 1400s.
I was particularly inspired by this image which I got from fashionhistory.fitnyc.edu article titled "1460-1469".
According to the site, this painting is called "Miniatures from Boethius, Consolation de philosophie" made in 1465 possibly by Henri de Vulcop.
I was also inspired by the traditional Northern Renaissance artwork of the Limbourg Brothers 1400s calendar "Très Riches Heures du Duc de Berry". It's one of my favorite pieces of art. I learned a lot about Northern Renaissance art in college, it's very interesting! My favorite is of theirs is January and May.
The color blue is often used in these settings, as it was a difficult color to find for painting and also with it's association with Mary in religious paintings. It's usage symbolized that the person commissioning the painting is wealthy enough to afford to have their painter use a rare color.
Fertitlity is often a theme in these works, as they were painted after many in the population died from the black plague. As they recovered, there was more emphasis on pregnancy and clothes that imitated pregnancy bumps (though that was a little bit more pronounced in works like Jan Van Eycks "The Arnolfini Portrait" in 1434).
That is one of the reasons why I had her wearing blue, to symbolize her place in nobility.

Anyone who raises their hand to a maid will feel Bridgette's wrath! Bridgette is a young woman who has been Isekai'd 10 times as a maid, a
Since we know the marinus and Bridgette has a real world counterpart are there aby other characters with one?
Yes, Shellie and Marina do. As does Linus and Commander Nikolaou.
Marina's counterpart used to live with Demeter's counterpart (her name is Maria). They were raised like siblings though they are cousins by blood.
Shellie's counterpart raises chickens, and her version of her pet duck, "Egg" is actually alive and well and is a rooster.
Linus's counterpart is one of alternate Demeter's friends with benefits
Commander Alexander Nikolaou is a kindergarten teacher
Just wondering how exactly do Limpette names work? We know that there are some limpette characters with bames that are related to the sea but then there are also characters like Sprinkle and drearie. Or ate those teo not limpette?
Limpette names are dependent on the ethnic group that each character is from but many names derive from water.
Because Limpette is a port country, they get people from all over the world. There are dozens of ethnicities within Limpette. But there is a somewhat standardized language (with a lot of dialects influenced by different languages depending on the ethnic group most common in different regions).
But there are also consistent cultural practices in Limpette. It's customary to have at least one child with a water based name. This is based on a trend for sea travelers to have at least one person with a water based name in their crew for good luck.
So even if the names in one family unit aren't all water based, it's considered good luck to have at least one child with one. A family is sort of like a crew. But it's not good to have every single one of the family members have water names, because then they'll be more likely to drown at sea because the sea wants them to come home.
Hyphenating names is also common, with Name + Father's Surname + Mother's Surname. Bridgette's surname is "Nahome-Karim", and Marina's is "Mendoza-Jafari".
For example: Bridgette's name is based on the saying "water under the bridge", which is a water based name and ironic considering her previous lives. Her younger siblings, Farah and Yusuf, have traditionally Qamaran names, which are Iranian and Arab. Her father's surname is Nahome, which belongs to a country in a West African based continent.
Marina's name means "water", Her younger sibling, "Neva"'s name means "snow." Her other siblings, Frida, Lia and Esteban have non water based names.
Her cousin, Marinus/Seasalt is derived from the same base name. But he is alone, and drifts without anyone.
Shellie's name is based on the word "seashell", her brother and sister have the name's "Ari" and "Winifred" respectively. And while both are not water based names, Winifred's name was partially inspired by the novel "Tuck Everlasting"'s main character, a girl named Winifred who finds a family that has gained immortality by drinking from an enchanted spring. Though that doesn't count in context with the story, I do think it is a water based fact.
"Sprinkle" and "Drearie" are from a country called Qamara, which is an equivalent to Iran. But, their names are actually related to water, showing they might have some Limpetta ancestry as well.
The name "Sprinkle" has two meanings, it's a candy topping but it's also a way to describe light rain. Like "it's sprinkling outside."
Drearie is a descriptor for a rainy day, like "a dreary day." Meaning that it is overcast, foggy, and filled with anticipation or is currently raining. Their surnames would most likely be Iranian influenced.
Water based names are actually very common in that part of the world. Even the country of Tholassa is named after the sea, Kolt brings to mind snow imagry, and Limpette is named for a snail mollosk which lives in water. I actually think Teffrah is the odd country out, since it is named after volcanic ash which are abundant in it's territory.
Unfortunately, I have to inform you that the white supremacist slave owner story has HIGH rating on Naver
Uh yeah ppl definitely have this kind of fantasies, even here (I'm Asian) slavery is not treated as the horrible thing it is as often as one expects even with a long history of slavery
Goddamn. That really blows.
Well, it's time to send in Mary.
Premise: Mary owns a diary that lets her hear her ancestor's voices from their time in chattel slavery. It was written by her great grandmother, the daughter of a freed slave.
When the book changes and things in her current world get worse, she realizes a time traveler is trying to exploit her people and goes back in time to help her ancestors with their slave rebellion. And stop a few idiots who idolize Antebellum South the old fashioned way, by showing them what slavers deserve.
So there's a Korean Webnovel where it's basically a power fantasy of being a white slave owner
I'm not joking and I believe you should know, I saw it on a Reddit post
Yep. I heard of this mess unfortunately.
This is why no one should ever believe it when readers say "Korean authors don't know what slavery in the west is!! 😢They're innocents who don't know no better!"
These author's aren't stupid. They're people who made a choice and chose not to care. And no, reincarnating into white characters in rofan isn't "East Asians in cosplay", it's this.
This is the logical conclusion. Demonizing/infantilizing slaves, uplifting the rich, justifying slavery in things like VADD and Remarried Empress, glorifying white supremacy and slaver stories like Shield Hero in Japan would naturally lead to stories like this (a la Gone with the Wind style glamorization of the "noble slaver" archetype). It was only a matter of time.
The only good thing is that other Korean readers are upset with this too as far as I know. Just like when "Just because I can Control Darkness Doesn't Mean I'm Evil!" came out, Japanese readers clocked it for the whitewashing aspect and were rightfully upset. The fact that this has a platform at all is disgusting, and it's clear these companies haven't learned from Get Schooled.
As a black woman, I hope the author who made this crawls into a hole and doesn't come out. They should be ashamed of themselves.
What was the original Phoebe's personality, hobbies, and dreams like?
I feel like we know so little about that poor girl, except that she was kinder than kindhearted than Helen, was abused by her stepmother and husband, and forgave Clara only to be murdered by her husband. I think the original Phoebe deserves better than being the empty shell Helen used to fill. She should have had her own inner world.
That's true!
OG!Phoebe wanted to travel and try new things outside of her bubble. If she had a happy ending, she'd split the money she gave Clara between them and she'd run away before being forced to get married.
During her travels, she'd go more in depth deconstructing the imperialist rhetoric she was taught. It would culminate with her becoming anti imperialist.
She loves pastel color clothes and loves animals. She especially can't resist kittens. I think overall she'd be happiest single. Since she is no longer a main character, her hair is naturally graying more.
her hairstyle is inspired by Edith's iconic ponytail decorations from "Not Your Typical Reincarnation Story", while I dropped the manga the art and fashion were very cute!
Oooo you’re a shoujo collector? What do you have
Yep! Here's a list of the shojo physical media I have (I've been collecting since 2002 so it's quite a lot):
Sailor Moon (the tokyopop edition, two kodansha editions including hardcover, character books, plus a few Japanese art books, the DIC dub, some toys, movie promotional booklet)
Cardcaptor Sakura (original tokyopop run, the nelvana cardcaptors dub, two different dvd box sets, her wand toy, cheerio artbooks, anime production art books, tokyopop art books, all volumes of the cine-manga, the kodansha run with hardcover, and only the first three books of the clear card arc because unfortunately I wasn't as invested and I really wanted to be! ;w; )
A bunch of Nakayoshi magazines circa early 2003-2006
Miss Rain and Chocolate Christmas from Naoko takeuchi
I don't think this counts exactly as shojo, more like Josei but I have a ton of harlequin manga because I got a really good deal on ebay, they literally have thousands of them in Japan and they're going for like less than a dollar each. They're helping me learn more Japanese tbh and have vintage shojo styles

first time doing black-and-white comic pages for portfolio purposes. any tips on best practices, especially if i'm incorporating watercolor? thanks for the help
Hello! :)
I actually used to do a lot of black and white work, then moved to color so I think the mentality is a bit different. But there is a piece of advice my professors taught me that is true for all art types in comics:
Most publishers or comic book companies recruiting are not looking for who can make the most beautiful art. Any artist can do that given an infinite amount of time. Most of them will say 'that's pretty, now draw it a hundred more times.' If one page takes you a week to do, then it's not efficient. It'll take forever. Draw with an art style that suits your speed so you can draw it over and over again and with consistent results. Consistency is important!
All in all, present an artstyle you can draw a hundred times.
With black and white, it's important that your inks can stand on their own without any tones or added shading. Strong inking will be a huge leg up! Ideally, I think watercolor should compliment the inking, but it all depends on what you want. :)
Below are the black and white pages for my comic "The Creatures"
For the above pages, I drew them out by hand and added toning in clip studio paint. For toning traditionally, I chose a "less is more" approach.
When it comes to watercolor, I think that having both examples of a watercolor page and it's initial inks will showcase your work best! Maybe different types of watercolor would work too.
Is it a texture you add over the drawing? Or are there brushes you use for the watercolor effect? Have both examples that you can draw consistently so they can choose which one would be most appropriate for any given project.
And depending on the brushes, they can vary by program too!
I have a custom watercolor brush set for both procreate and clip studio. They look quite different!
Left was made with brushes in procreate and right is done with brushes in Clip Studio Paint.
They have their own drawbacks and advantages.
There's also traditional! Having an method of scanning the image into a high quality and editing it is also important. You can tweak things too like color.
Above are two seamless textures I painted by hand, and then scanned into clip studio paint. They took quite a bit of cleanup, so that should also factor into whether or not you want to make the pages 100% traditional or use physical watercolor to add more to it.
Good luck with your portfolio!
Hi! So first of all I just wanna say that I absolutely adore Isekai Maid! The story is so good and it's a huge inspiration for me!
Second, I kinda have a few questions, you can ignore them if you want!
1. So, since it was established that male reincarnators are entitled, I was wondering what specific incident that a male reincarnator did to literally ban the summoning of other male reincarnators
2. How is the author of "Flowers Thrive in Autumn"/"The Wicked Woman Delivers" currently doing? I feel bad for them considering they were literally forced to butcher their own work :(
3. Will we ever get to see more of the time-looping viscountess? I'm kinda curious ab her
That's all the questions I have for now, take care and hope you have a good year!!
Thank you so much! ^ _ ^
The world of Isekai Maid used to have a sort of video game system attached to it, with dungeons and items. This was a breeding ground for isekai'd men who'd come there with cheats. Things came to a head when one powerful hero's descendants (who were the children of his harem members from royals and influential people) caused a massive, bloody and violent civil war that rocked the continent that Teffrah exists on. All of the harems members children made claims to each other's territories and fought viciously over the hero's magic artifacts which were stupidly overpowered. It was eventually decided that the hero's children would be purged from leadership and executed. Anyone using the hero's name for power or claiming to be his descendant would be killed on sight. Once they were systemically hunted down, the hero's weapons were confiscated and destroyed.
The author is recovering and trying to find the passion to write again. Luckily her original version of Flowers Thrive in Autumn is gaining more respect after the isekai'd version's popularity has waned somewhat.
She will appear again! Her and Brooke (Bridgette's past life) are actually going to factor into explaining why Bridgette ended up in a timeloop in the first place.
Can I ask about what ended up for this reincarnator cuz boi I wanna know what she got because that was such a shitty thing to do to Anna Maria, if you didn't plan anything for her, it's fine NGL
Hello!
Yes, I have an outcome for her. She refused to take true accountability for her original's actions, and simply pushed blame onto others. When confronted by people hurt by the OG, she'd come up with convenient excuses by blaming them for her actions or reason most of her victims weren't good people in the first place.
The villainess believed that because she herself didn't commit the evil actions that she didn't feel like she should bear the blame. The blonde heroine (pictured lower right) was hurt immensely by the original villainess (center), but also by the reincarnator's inability to understand how deep it went and act like she didn't do anything wrong.
The heroine realized that the villainess was only trying to save herself from repercussions, not because she truly understood what the heroine went through. The villainess would still act abusive, just not to her and in different ways. The heroine never felt truly comfortable with her, and bided her time until she was able to run away.
When the villainess tried to get her back because the male lead was going to kill her for letting the heroine escape, the heroine refused and laid it all out for her: she didn't trust her, she knew the villainess had ulterior motives, and she knew she hadn't really changed.
So, how did Helen react to the Princess and The Frog coming out if she was in Disney spaces?
Like most disney fans in 2014, Helen just ignored her existence and excluded her from her bakery whenever she had a "disney princess" theme.
How long has it been in-universe since Kazuma left Delilah's body?
Saoirse is 62 and Delilah/Linus Rose is 63 right now, and the latter was taken over at 24 ( Kazuma got sent back at 27) . So it's been about 38 years in universe. But only minutes in Kazuma's world.
