Okay can I just talk about Akaashi for a second??
Listen he is possibly the most amazing person in the world and here’s why: He knows how to handle every part of Bokuto without getting overly frustrated. While the fandom makes jokes that he’s got all of Bokuto’s “weaknesses” memorized, it’s actually really sweet that he took the time to remember the little things that bother Bokuto??? And whenever Bokuto has his slumps or weird moments when he just forgets how to do ANYTHING, Akaashi never says anything about it. The rest of the team collectively groans and is like “Are you serious”, but Akaashi concentrates on figuring out how to help Bokuto. And after he does, he knows how to word what he wants to say so that Bokuto can understand him, and so his spirit can be brought back up. Idk I just. I find that incredibly beautiful.
and genuinely can I talk about Bokuto as well??? (manga spoilers ahead)
It’s certain that Bokuto understands Akaashi just as much, if those moments from their introduction up to the Nationals arc was able to establish that Bokuto does appreciate and spend time with Akaashi, the Mujinazaka match proved, only solidified even, that their relationship does not go one way. It’s far from one sided because Bokuto cares for Akaashi as well.
He was the one that recommended for Akaashi to be benched for the time being to allow him to think, because he knows thats how Akaashi works??? He thinks, Akaashi analyses a situation and so Bokuto gives him food for thought because he knows that’s the best way to approach Akaashi’s slump, give him something to think about and allow him to figure out the rest from there.
If Akaashi is able to deliver good tosses during Bokuto’s emo modes, in turn lifting Bokuto’s spirits up, then Bokuto can provide a performance, plays that are able to fill in the gap for Akaashi when he’s at his worse. So then, what effect did that have on Akaashi?
When Akaashi is benched, Bokuto gives it his all. Even in the absence of his usual setter, he plays with utmost skill and what does it do?
It motivated Akaashi.
It drove him, compelled him and help him understand what it means to “pour your heart and soul” into the things you do. It helped him find his footing again and when Akaashi returned, not too far into the match Bokuto had helped him achieve that ability to give your 120%, which we know plays a fundamentally big part in Akaashi’s mindset in the timeskip (further showing how Bokuto’s words and influence continue to impact Akaashi even after all these years).
There is so much more that Bokuto had done for Akaashi during and post Mujinazaka match that I could talk about but bottom line is, Bokuto knows how to pick Akaashi back up on his own two feet as well. He knows how to level with Akaashi’s sense of overthinking and compensates for it by telling things that Akaashi needs to hear. He clears the white noise that is Akaashi’s constant thoughts.
Bokuto is the person Akaashi can rely on just as much, that shoulder to lean unto, the star that shines a light and paves a way for him.
From start,
to finish,
And that is just as beautiful.
